It's interesting that the 'storm trooper' helmet idea is finally becoming a reality. Now imagine a helmet with built-in night vision, comms, sound protection, powered ventilation, and gas mask air filtering... or is that over the top.
@GTAmerc8 жыл бұрын
I would warrant a guess that that technology all packed together would produce a very expensive and heavy helmet. I am not sure, but I wonder if we're technologically capable of packing all of that into the same helmet? Maybe specialty helmets that can accomplish one of those tasks at a time.
@RemingtinArms8 жыл бұрын
+Michael Janzen Maybe not comms internally, but some sort of microphone/receiver system to hook up to your radio maybe. .mil would prolly want wired but Bluetooth could also be done, I almost see this as necessary, as the armor being in front of your mouth prevents communication with your fire team any other way especially over gunfire. I could definitely see some sort of electronic hearing protection being added in as well, makes sense being able to duck external sounds if you are using comms for all talking rather than earplugs under a helmet trying to hear your fire team leader over gunfire. Ports for adding filters is a possibility but I don't see the charcoal filters getting any lighter so adding them to the helmet stock prolly wouldn't happen, night vision is also heavy so the mount as is should be fine.

It looks like the only equipment to hold it in place is a foam pad. One round and your face is going to be all sorts of broken(better than dead, but that shouldn't be the only goal). Additionally, you're going to lose the panel that's hit immediately. I've always said that a ballistic helmet is going to have a few requirements before it becomes standard. 1. 100% IIIA ballistic protection with the ability for repeated abuse. 2. Securing system that makes it so that they're so additional weight on the neck and it won't be violently jerked after taking a round, preferably secured to a vest. 3. Integrated comms and exterior acreage for mounting lights, nvgs, cameras, etc.

While I like where the design is going, I can't help but feel like there are unnecessary gaps in the armor that are there only to make it look more stylized.

despite how badass this helmet is, I hate wearing my standard issue helmet as it is. It's not comfortable and it's hard to tell if this would be better. I love the imagination of some of you. An all-in-one helmet would be incredible, but above all it needs to be comfortable.
@carbon12557 жыл бұрын
I think the point was to only use it for particular swat team/ raids that could give extra protection for point men. It is hard to see this useful in a standard issue context.
@1zanglang8 жыл бұрын
This helmet is very good for artistic purpose. Maybe useful in filming war movies or something. But the dude who's going to wear it, must be very careful, because the vision is severely obstructed, and the whole magnet assembled helmet would come apart if the guy hits his head against anything... Anyway, Darth Vader is envious...

they should supply one of these to the costume designer for the show Arrow. I really want to see John Diggle wear this out in the field instead of that kinda stupid looking helmet they are using currently.
@tsnorquist8 жыл бұрын
I'd think, just by looking at it, the peripheral vision would be impaired. That being said, definitely a step in the right direction for point men/women responding. It'd be great to initially incorporate it with gas/smoke filtration and coms. I could see NV, Thermal, HUD being something years down the road.
@MrTryAnotherOne8 жыл бұрын
What is it suppose to protect against? Shrapnell, bullets? Up to what calibre? I'd also like to see some shooting while wearing it. Thx
@hangtowngunner2188 жыл бұрын
It is IIIA rated, which means it is intended to stop most handgun calibers like 9mm up to 44 mag I believe. It will not stop rifle rounds. The soft armor vests most police use are IIIA rated.
@budojon8 жыл бұрын
+Hangtown Gunner this helmet looks amazing ! but its only to show off. the vision in that thing is way too low. and how well are we going to hear in that thing? how well can some1 hear me calling him? how heavy is it? also look inside, the ears look like they get scratched and it surely does not fit all headsizes. besides the fantastic visual style, its japan style, so price usualy is way too expensive.
@forgenorth14448 жыл бұрын
+Assewoo if it would stop a rifle, it would not break your neck. There's not that much force
@Totemparadox7 жыл бұрын
budojon Visibility is an issue, but I think that the problem of hearing in that thing can be fixed with basic ear protection technology. Like in the ones that suppress gun sounds, but encrease lower sounds.

I thouht this was for airsoft when I clicked on the video... considder me suprised. This is amazing technology, however i dont plan on putting myself in any situation where i would want or need one (not that I could afford one in the first place). I still like the thought that this kind of technology is availabe and might one day help protect our troops and law enforcement officers. :)

Looks a little bit shifty to me. Turns out Dev Tac in Japan is really a guy named Westly who has been making airsoft masks for a couple years. I'm not saying fake or false but the mask I saw shot by a 357 mag has a lot of deformation and light shinning through it so I'd like to see the 3a test certificate. The plates appear to be kevlar and not ceramic in the pictures showing a shot unit, so are the "plates" just a aesthetic choice? If so the spaces between that aren't 3a, aren't for no reason but style. Shitty reason to take a round to the dome. All of that and I still want one, something very Deathstroke the Terminator about it, but I'm not bringing it to a gun fight.
@GrahamBartle8 жыл бұрын
devtac OK, I admit me hating on your product is not really fair. You are tackling a very interesting and challenging problem. I do have some concerns about the current form but in reality I am a bigger fan of what you are doing then not. A ballistic full face helmet is really tough and doing it without a DOD sized budget is going to be a process not a miracle. The very fact that you have brought a product that is at all functional to market is amazing and I would in fact buy even this model if I could afford it, no current MSRP is published but I can guess due to material and production run sizes, it will not be cheap. But even that is not a knock on your work, this kind of thing has to be pricey to work and that is what we all want, something that works. If we judged the first production model of anything we now use everyday, we would have found many faults. Keep up the good work, listen to the market's concerns and one day I hope to own a Devtac level 4 ballistic helmet with built in respirator, ear pro and coms. Good Luck.

Pretty cool. As others have said, the addition of a filter would be incredibly useful essentially integrating the gas mask capabilities. The eye lenses are the weakest part on two levels. First the by thier nature are the structurally weakest parts, and being a component they take away from the integrity of the entire unit. Also they come with a 15% loss of vision at the periphery. Ultimately would love to see imaging tech increase to the point where no lenses where nesscary and essentially have all visual info relayed to a high def screen within the helmet. You would provide 3D vision with full field of view, using 2 cameras about the size of smart phone cameras, 1-2 centimeters across, protected with shatterproof plastic. They also would only inset in the helmet 2 centimeters, allowing for the entire thing to be fused and much stronger. The biggest challenge isn't penetration from a round, it's absorbing the force of that round without breaking one's neck or sustaining tbi. When a round is fired through a head most times the neck won't break, but thats because the entire force isn't dissipated at entry, it continues to travel through the skull possibly even exiting out the back. With a ballistic helmet, all of the force is brought to a abrupt termination and momentum has to be countered

@daveh95516 жыл бұрын
Spec Ops spent years trying to trim down its ballistic helmets to improve comfort and function. The LAST thing they want is something that covers their entire head and obstructs vision, smell, and hearing. part of war fighting is being in tune with your environment. You could miss something small with a huge hot helmet on your head. OK, its bullet proof but it does no good if u get hit with a hail of bullets

Very interesting concept. I like this design. But would like to see some testings on it as well. Nothing major you know. just curious how it would stand up against a 9mm to 7.62. You guys should also considered making a vest to go with that helmet, especially designing protection for the neck. As much full coverage as possible. ( just a thought ). So moreless what's the $price range?

My only concern with this helmet is the gaps in ballistic protection on the upper sides. If a SWAT team member turns his head from a hallways, he could get brained in the side with a hit to that large unprotected area on the side. Other than that I like the idea and could see more sophisticated electronics for the eye piece section and communications mic and ear-piece options being implemented into it. However I don't see this as a viable military helmet as the gaps in the ballistic helmet would probably not protect well against overpressure and shrapnel from an IED blast. Still it might be worth testing and I hope that you guys will continue to work on newer variants of this helmet that address military applications.

can someone explain/help me with this? granted i really don't know shit about armor, tho i am trying to learn, how much harder would it be to make this helmet (i know this isn't the correct term but its what im gonna use) "Rifle Proof" (able to protect against 5.56 or 7.62)? like i said before, i don't really know shit about this stuff but i feel like with how much exoskeletons are being researched at the moment, this type of helmet is not that far off and maybe even full body armor like it. i've been trying to at least come up with a concept of some semi-realistic / semi-possible full body armor that would be able to achieve this to some extent. maybe it'll just turn into something for shits and giggles or maybe something will actually come of it. any advice or anything i could research to help would be great. thank you :)
@MCmaddawg8 жыл бұрын
Would like to see a design of this with an environmental seal, like a gas mask. Also, I worry that the magnets are not ideal. At the speed a bullet travels, it will literally rip off any of those armor pieces of the helmet. I'm thinking more or less a solid version of this helmet, with the facial part of it lifting up to give you some more breathing space. All in all, currently the helmet looks definitelly intimidating. However, is it secure? I'd rather wear a normal issued helmet until this becomes more solid.

I think the helmet is cool, but If I where to make a helmet I’d copy what they did in the 16 to 17 hundreds, if you look up some armor they have a point on the helmet so that when an a arrow would hit, it would drag off the side and deflect. some helmets where almost triangular and round at the same time, so I’d do something like that but put a triangular face shield so it would drag off the side when shot. And I’d make the helmet a little heavier and thicker so a modern bullet wouldn’t break the armor when hit on a hard in-packed . And my helmet would preferably be black or tan, or just a tactical color that they use in the military.
