Us lesser infantrymen (non-sof) would greatly appreciate if you would include the non-special helmets issued to big army. Like the basic ACH and the new IHPS. A lot of us are stuck with that and don't quite know how to incorporate the types of gear you're listing off. I'd LOVE to mount some earpro to my helmet but the shape of the IHPS is a bit different. So I'm not sure if any of of the mounting solutions would even work for us.

It’s an unfortunate reality for a lot of dudes. I believe you’re pretty much married to running ear pro underneath, a better solution would be neckband style.

@louispaull3096 well that sucks. I really had my fingers crossed that at least one of the mounting arms mentioned would be compatible. I'm my company's RTO and the new Falcom headset under the new IHPS is a nightmare for a skull.

@@N01ANDO there may be a solution I’m not aware of, still continue to research it. I primarily run helmet mounted on a high cut, however I do enjoy running them separate that way I can doff the helmet and still retain comms without carrying 2nd headset.

Remember, If you are a civilian, Purchase a RF1 or a RF2 rated helmet when it comes to UHMWPE, Otherwise you are paying 1-2k$+ on a helmet that is subpar to most Kevlar 150-200$ helmets. I would also recommend steel helmets from Adept's NovaSteel VPAM-3 + or if you can get it Germany's ulbrich's helmets, They stop more and are far more sustainable and affordable. The majority of UHMWPE helmets on the market right now from places like ops core are light sure, But stop virtually nothing outside of some lower spec 9mm ammo and shrapnel. And for that you can dish out a couple hundred dollars for a ACH instead of blowing your wad on tacticool. And you can easily get the same weight and increased performance with these RF1/RF2 and steel helmets.
@DaveSmith-cp5kj
@DaveSmith-cp5kj Жыл бұрын
Yup, its surplus/chinese for 100-200 or top of the line. It makes zero sense to go anywhere in the middle. Probably the only exception is MTEK flux. While it is only IIIa, it has exceptional balance, coverage, and lightweight, so if your risk is low but you have to be wearing it for the full day, it's worth the price.
@DaveSmith-cp5kj
@DaveSmith-cp5kj Жыл бұрын
@@waterboogaloo Your first helmet should be a surplus PASGT (Ideally 3M/Ceradyne mfg) or ACH shell. Basically a full cut and add the skydex padding if it doesn't have it. You find these at surplus stores. Normal price is well under $100 but after BLM most of the surplus armor evaporated. If you already have a full cut or can't find one a at a good price then your second option is the Long Fri high cut helmet. This helmet like the OPSCORE has very bad padding so you may want to pay the extra $100 to get a 4D pad, or make your own. The padding doesn't protect you, the shell already does that, it is just for comfort so it doesn't need to be special unlike the PASGT where the padding/suspension is part of the protection rating. Before you spend any more than this you need to make sure you have earpro, eye pro, blowout kit (2 tourniquets, 2 decompression needles, etc), radio (ideally one analog like a Baofeng and one digital P25), at least 5000 rounds per each gun and two sets of magazines, AR500 plates (for concealed purposes and backup to replace later if your IV plate gets hit), and IV plates large 11x14"), a PVS14 and a thermal monocular. The night vision stuff is most expensive but no other armor upgrade outweighs the benefit of night vision. I would also probably build a FPV plane or quad rotor as well unless someone in your group already has one. Even just an FPV monster truck can be extremely useful as it has been in SWAT. If you do have all this stuff then your next step up is to buy peripherals which involves a face mandible or face shield, and bicep and thighs. The bicep and thighs are important because junctional wounds create bleeding that a limb tourniquet wont' stop, and junctional tourniquets are expensive and even then won't always work because it relies on pinching the artery against the pelvic girdle which may be shattered. Preventing the wound is easier than dealing with it. After that the next is forearm armor. Most people don't think about it, but forearm armor is getting popular in SWAT and other RRT because your forearms cover most of your torso when aiming the gun so wounds impacting here is more common than the chest. Groin armor is also cheap but useful since the prevalence of armor means that there is a higher suggestion to aim for the pelvic girdle for a mobility stop rather than a lethal stop.

@@sheepkashur3308 the XR is a a bit of a scam because it's a V50 rating not a V0 like the RF1 and RF2. That means 50% of x39 fired at the helmet will penetrate, lol. Roll for durability.

@@waterboogalooIf you don’t have night vision you can get away with an ACH or something but you’re going to hate your life. High cut helmets actually protect more of your noggin and the nape of your neck etc than an ACH does. As someone who has worn both professionally for years, get the high cut man it’s worth it. You can also do way more with it.

I’ll preface my comment that I run a OpsCore SF FAST helmet with AMPs mounted on the arms. As far as the AMPs looking like “Mickey Mouse” you can swing them to the back and have them pushed up against the back of the helmet. You don’t have to have them like Mickey Mouse at all. I love the Discus adapter for my AMPs. Sometimes I will run music through them but my main use is being able to use my phone which is really nice. You can use Signal for some sort of encryption. I don’t know how much I trust it though.

Replied to another post about this but.... Do you mean they pop off your ears easily? If so, yup, there are a few instructional videos out there but basically if you take apart the portion which mounts to the arc rail, and place a piece of shock cord under the metal prong that sits in the mount, it will prevent them from ever popping off. Conversely this means they will NEVER pop 'out' so you won't get that good air flow etc. but you'll get a consistent seal to your face every time.

Helpful video. I gotta ask, what sort of tape is that? It doesn't look like regular 90 mph tape to me.

Otto engineering arms, they do require some adjusting if you’re rocking the gibbous outfitters adaptors for things like Peltors or sordins

My 3m mounts for my comtacs on the right side wont stay down. Anyone have a suggestion to tune them. (Dirty civilian)

Check to make sure they are actually legit. Lots of fake chinese 3M mounts being sold. If they are fake all you have to do is bend the wire outward more (yes outward not inward, as the angle causes the wire at the top to hit the toggle due to how it bends). Lacking this, make sure the pads on your helmet are even. The first time you put the helmet on is most important because that settles the pads and centers it on your head. Look in a mirror and make sure your helmet is perfectly centered on your head.

33:40 could also just have a carabin lock in your belt, towards the front, with two rolls of tape inside of it, one clear and one black, or just one black if it's truly just for breaching or tapping up IR chemlights or something else. It's easier to actually access, I'd reckon fondling ontop of your helmet with gloves on to find a tiny snip, that through miles of infil or otherwise transport to said "Breach" would perhaps be wet, the "snip" you're trying to reach is gone or other stuff that very much would be a problem for this method. Simply having it near your pelvic Girdle at the front at a belt is way.- WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY easier.

The argus mounts aren't very good. The best chinese clone mount is the Nortos losto from specprecision. I have a detailed review on the product page. That said, if you have a 3D printer, you can print your own mount and if you salt harden it you not only get a better mount but it is a lot lighter than even the real thing. Look up the WARTHOG NVD mount on printables.

My only issue is: the dependence of “SureFire flashlights” to have an effective dependable light source, I feel like they are seriously boring and cheap considering price/capability. They are a weapon light. Period.. just over priced, and very ugly / limited design.
