If I'm not mistaken. The time period which ghost of tsushima takes place. Ronin were more peasants who fled their masters lands not really a samurai without a master. Given I love the idea of masterless samurai.

So the Ronin challenged famous swordsmen in order to gain fame? That's really interesting. Musashi Miyamoto was probably having none of that.

Many ronins ended up in Siam(now Thailand) and fought under the king. One notable ronin was named Yamada Nagamasa the samurai of ayuthaya who later became the governer of Nakhon Sri Thammarat. There is a statue of him there and also in Ayuthaya

It is similar to what happen to some career soldiers after leaving the military. None career soldiers are only there for 1 or 2 years so they can quickly get employment else where, but a lot of the more career ones, mostly those in combat unit, their skills got little need outside the military and after been in the army for 10~15 years, they can be a bit too old to start over, some of them went to college in their 30s or even 40s to start a new career, some become cops or private security and some become hire guns.

Why is it whenever honor is involved people gotta die?
@deadby154 жыл бұрын
Norse Viking warriors had the same mentality. When they got older, they tried to die in a battle even if they knew they had no chance of winning because they believed being killed in a battle was more honorable than dying of sickness.

A rōnin (浪人, "drifter" or "wanderer")[1][2] was a samurai without a lord or master during the feudal period (1185-1868) of Japan. A samurai became masterless upon the death of his master or after the loss of his master's favor or privilege.[3][4] In modern Japanese usage, usually the term is used to describe a salaryman who is unemployed or a secondary school graduate who has not yet been admitted to university.[5][6] *-The American Oxford Dictionary*

Possible to become a good swordsman without a teacher. You’d have to spar a lot and learn the basics from observation or books. Western Fencing is moving forwards backwards and parry and reposting. And the lunge. Getting good would be hard af though and I don’t know anyone who can but swords is not like grappling simpler but very athletic and tactical at the same time like compound attacks.

Ghost of Tsushima brought us all here. Other comments: some of the artwork are gorgeous. But the lack of reference and credit for the artists is a disservice to the great unknown artists who made it. Another issue I have with this is the mismatch of Art. Some of the Ronin in the video like 1:38 appear Western. Japanese do not have facial hair this full and thick (unless they have mixed blood with Westerns). They simply have different facial hair textures.
@icyy_createz3 жыл бұрын
Bro it was a disservice the video wasn’t about the art at all and he got the photos for more of an effect and what if those Ronin in the picture was the mixed blood you was talking about?
