What Jpop has and what our modern pop lacks is melody, that's the reason that stuff sounds so much more fun than anything a western Pop composer would push out, the vocalists use their voice to ride along with the music and create a melodic tune with it, the voice is almost an instrument here. Where our pop music also lacks is always using the same safe formula but who can blame them really, people "want" to listen to the always samey stuff sadly. Jpop often feels more like journey, you never know where and when it ends. I think it's sad that we have so little risk taking in music nowadays, just think about how different and exciting all the songs of Michael Jackson sounded, you can't compare that to modern day Pop Music.

You might also like one of their other songs “Moshimo Inochi ga Egaketara”. But they have just so many great songs in general so hopefully you’ll find some more you’ll like. There’s also another artist that you might like. Her name is Eill. Some songs I like from her is Finale, Pre Romance, Spotlight, and Palette.

Seeing you liking J-pop so far, you might wanna check out Ado as well. She has some super wide vocal range and lots of tension in her voice it’s insane, with amazing and heavy song production, really captures how creative the whole genre is. Of course, other YOASOBI songs are great as well, so give the duo more listens, you won’t regret it!

I recommend checking out "Monster" by YOASOBI. Its one of their most well-known songs.

If you appreciated Yoasobi's vocals, you should try watching their "The First Take" performances, especially the Home Take one. You really get a sense of how good Ikura/Ikuta is from their live recordings. Edit: Another interesting aspect of this group is that they do english translations of their songs, and I don't remember what it's called, but they do it in such a way where the English version phonetically sounds like the Japanese one. For example, in the song "Yoru ni Kakeru/Racing into the night", the Japanese the words are "shizumu yo-u ni" and in the english version it's "Sieze the move, you're on me" or in "Sangenshoku/RGB" the Japanese lyric is "doko ga de" and the English is "don't know where we". What's even more amazing is how it's not just jibberish English words, the translations are somewhat still loosely similar in thought with the Japanese ones.

I was thinking of reacting to one of their "First Take" videos cause I do want to see them in action. Thank you for your explanation on the English translations. I tend to stay away from English versions of Japanese songs because of how awkward they tend to sound. So, I generally just listen to the originals.

@@Roninmann they have an entire album of English translations, but not all of them are good, their English version for Kaibutsu, titled Monster, is pretty forced. But the two that I mentioned previously are good. There's even a video on KZbin where they put the Japanese track on the left channel and the English on the right channel (or was it the other way around) and is a good way to hear how close the two versions sound.

I feel like this goes without saying normally, but as overplayed as racing into the night is, it is still a REALLY good song for someone new to Yoasobi, and I highly recommend it, although you've probably heard that in the last videos comment section as well. As far as creativity and songwriting goes, this one shocks a lot of people, as the song is very upbeat and cheerful, yet the story that YOASOBI based it on is quite depressing if I'm being honest.

Really like you reaction from the Yoasobi song. I wonder what is your approach for reaction whether pure reaction, music analysis, music videos visuals, or even understanding lyrics Btw, Yoasobi only consists of 2 people Ayase : Music Producer Ikura : Singer-songwriter

Hi and thank you so much! I've been a musician for over 20 years, so I like to focus on writing and how songs are produced and most important I like to headbang while listening haha. Since I only play instruments I don't focus on lyrics much. If the instruments can hook me, then I can focus on the voice a little more. I can always enjoy a great music video, but sometimes if its too stimulating I have a hard time paying attention to the music. With reactions, you only have one shot to take in as much as you can and give feedback. YOASOBI was a total shot in the dark for me. They popped up in my feed and it looked like anime which I love haha.
