Ronnie Earl is without question the best guitar player alive right now especially in the Blues genre it's a shame that he does not have his own guitar shame on all the companies for not sponsoring this genius of a guitar player absolute beautiful flawless playing and beautiful tone we love you Ronnie

I've had the good fortune to see Ronnie Earl in concert well over 50 times over the last 25 plus years. In my humble opinion, he is the most emotionally expressive blues guitarist on the planet!

If I could only listen to one Blues guitarist it would be this guy. He has got SOUL, he's humble and like all the best Blues players, he's a great communicator. He's got incredible chops but never sacrifices taste or emotion for the sake of mere showing off and his playing displays such a wide range of influences and encompasses such a wide stylistic range. He is a stellar example of a guy who has absorbed and mastered all the nuances and subtleties of the Blues language and speaks it with utmost fluency. As has been said "Just because Blues is simple doesn't mean it's easy". Anyone who has tried discovers this very quickly! In short, here is a master musician. And the rhythm section is faultless.

This guy always delivers and his range is stunning. Shame he is barely known outside of hardcore Blues circles. Easily one of the greatest Guitarists of not just Blues but any genre. His tone is almost perfect and his technical skill is as flawless as it gets.

Boy, these guys are REALLY COOKING !! As a drummer I really appreciate the million very subtle things this very good drummer Per Hanson is doing here. and his Zildjian ride and crash cymbals really blend so well in the group. His drums sound tight and crisp. His fills are spot on !! Man,this guy is GOOD !! Gives me chills.

Its so difficult to play a Strat straight to the amp. And he does it so well and so expressively !!! Fantastic performance.I am stuck .

I discovered the blues in the late 80's-90's and Ronnie was the 1st player I ever heard (at Chans Restaurant in R.I. USA) where he comes from. Very small intimate venue -had no idea how blessed I was to have seen him back then.Still listening to him. Thanks for the great post. cheers

Man to play that cleanly with such a pure Strat tone is very difficult. But the main attraction is that he is an incredible player period. I never get tired of watching him tear it up!

This is so freaking badass!! I just saw Ronnie Earl and the Broadcasters last Saturday May 7th 2016 to be exact and he headlined the Blind Willie McTell Blues Festival and he opened up with Moanin and it was a superb show. The concert venue owners was trying to get Ronnie to quit because he went over his allotted time and As Ronnie was playing some slow Blues as he sat on the edge of the stage right directly in front of my son and I and we actually helped him get down and seated he looked back at the guy back stage and said and I quote "can't I play a little longer?" And the guy held his hands up as if to say 5 or ten more minutes and Ronnie kept on playing way past that ten mins until they finally threatened to unplug him and that shut was awesome. I see people hating on him sometimes with the comments not on this thread but another I read when he was playing with Ana Popovic and they were saying ugly things about him. Sorry for the long post but he has a special place in my heart

I was there too, right up front- I helped him sit down and gave him a hand standing up. It was like you said- a fabulous show! And he was so nice when I met him after the show- has his pic taken with me! Monster talent and a total gentleman- I'm a huge fan...

Great video. I used to see Ronnie Earls at the Sit'N Bull Pub in Maynard, MA every Wednesday for free (plus beer of course). My first band rehearsed in Maynard on Wednesdays and some of us would head to the Sit'N Bull afterwards to hear Ronnie play a set or two. This I think was 1992. The strange thing I remember most is Par Hanson (sp?) on drums. The most intense drummer I have ever seen. It does not show it on this video, but at the 'Bull he would just stare straight ahead and Ronnie would just go of in some direction and Par would be right there. He was all ears. And yes Bruce Katz is amazing. I saw him many times when I was in the Boston, MA area in the 1990s and early 2000s. Love the B-3 in general and he is amazing on it.

I saw RE in '89 with Darell Nulisch, who sang and played harp. Great singer and harp player. I cant help wondering if maybe you were thinking of Sam Myers, who passed away a few years ago. Another great harp player, and truly a monstrous! singer- he had a voice that could knock you backwards off your chair from across the room. He was from Mississipi, born in 1936. His main gig was with Anson Funderburgh through the 90's and maybe up until he died in 2006- Im not sure about that. Check out his nine minute live video "Hold That Train Conductor" on Ytube if you want to see some blistering vocals.

I love Ronnie and the blues--Strat tones in particular--but I have to say I was checking my watch after ten minutes. Non-stop instrumental gets wearisome fast.

Just great playing all round. Love Ronnie and Bruce Katz' organ playing is a wonder. By the way, the tune introduced as John Coltrane's Alabama is in fact a Kenny Burrell style tune I think called Indigo Burrell taken from their Language of the Soul CD. Ronnie does attempt to correct himself but you can hardly hear it.

You can hear a lot of Stevie’s chops in Ronnie’s repertoire. (Or Ronnie’s in Stevie’s) At about 18:30 reminiscent of “Dirty Pool”. But makes sense they spent a lot of their formative years playing the same clubs like Antones down in Austin and were the same age - Ronnie a year older.
