Defending champion Ronnie O'Sullivan is far from his standard, but his will to win and defend his title keeps him focused on the match, waiting for a mistake by Stephen Lee to give him a chance to play his sixth Masters final.
Erratum: the subtitles at the end of the video say it was John's first Masters when it was actually his second. He won the first in 1999 after beating Ken Doherty 10-8 in the final. My thanks to Umbreon Twinkle for the correction.
Sidespin
Rotation in the horizontal plane can be clockwise or counterclockwise. These are given different names depending on the subject/object involved:
A) the cue ball itself:
- Left-hand side (clockwise)
- Right-hand side (counterclockwise)
B) a cushion:
- Running side
- Reverse side (also known as Check side) slows down the cue ball when hitting a cushion due to friction, while the Running side favours the cue ball motion.
C) an object ball:
- Outside english
- Inside english
if you hit the right half of the OB, then Right-hand side would be Outside english; if you hit the left side of the OB, then playing with Left-hand side would also be Outside english.
Some consider 'Outside' to be 'Running' and 'Inside' to be 'Reverse'.
D) the spin transferred to an object ball:
- Helping english
- Hold Up english
If the OB rotation is equivalent to the Running side on the CB, it is called Helping side.
Some call "Helping english" to "Outside englsih" because Outside reduces throw and thus help cut thinner.
In the video, Ronnie played with right-hand side, he hit the right half of the pink, so he also played with Outside english, and the cue ball slowed down on the side cushion; thus, Mike Hallett called it 'Check side' because the subject involved was a cushion.
The statistics shown in the video correspond to the date of the match.
Cesar Muroya created a unique editing technique to extract the essence of the game without losing the drama involved. Contextual information is also an innovation appreciated by viewers.
This format is not intended to substitute the full version but rather to make snooker more accessible to new fans. The fluency and atmosphere of the game stay in a shorter length video, allowing even experienced fans to enjoy snooker at any time.

Despite the low quality video, these edited snooker games are more entertaining than seeing the original programming. The edits take a lot of work and I appreciate all that work. P.S. The most interesting part for me started at 4:36 (and 7:01) where we have a game when the black and blue balls were transposed. I've never seen that happen before.

@Thomas Mobley, why is it "Such a damned pity?" Stephen Lee was a Corrupt Liar, Thief and Cheat and if it was anyone else, I'm sure that you wouldn't say that it's such a damned pity! Perhaps the person who sorts out your Tax or the Political representative for the constituency where you live turns out to be corrupt liar, thief and cheat, I wonder if you would say "Such a damned pity? I doubt it! If Stephen Lee is so Currupt that he's going to rig games and matches, he's going to cheat to win money, he deserves to be banned from the game for life, he cannot be trusted! I believe that John Higgins was due the same punishment but I believe in Right and Wrong!

@@joseywales3789 -- I didn't say it was a damned pity he got caught, I said it was a damned pity he wasted a great snooker career and instead decided to be a cheat. I'm not nearly so sure that John Higgins did so though, an investigation concluded that he was being truthful about the situation, I know I'd be scared as f*"ck if I thought the Russian mob was trying to involve me in something, and he was only suspended for not reporting it. One of my cousins is a man named John Jenrette, maybe you've heard of him. He was extremely popular in democratic circles and it was looking like he may be be the upcoming democratic presidential nominee. He was also famous for having sex with his wife Rita on the capitol steps after a late night congressional session (she was an ex playboy bunny) and that seemed to be a positive for him too. But he became more famous for being caught in the Abscam investigation taking a $50,000 bribe. Smart, good looking, popular, on his way to the top and he threw it away. I thought that was a damned shame too, not that he got caught but that he chose a bribe over the path to possible greatness. I wouldn't have voted for him for president myself, I was disgusted with the D party by 1980 anyway, but any time someone with an open path to great things destroys it for something cheap it's a damned pity. And The Outlaw Josey Wales is one of my favorite movies of all time. Buzzards gotta eat just like the worms.

Husain Alqida, Steven shot well, but the balls rolled to his favor this day. I'm not one to run down any professional player, but how many times have you seen Ronnie hit those side pockets and that pink wasn't that hard of a shot. That game was 15 years ago. What's Steven's record at today. It's going to be a long time before someone comes along with the raw talent that Ronnie processes.

Lee had horrific luck to go in off a canon on what would have been his 4th frame. Not sure why you're taking time out of your day to denigrate him. Of course he's not Ronnie. @@rebbeshort No! It's how many feet in a certain time frame. Example: $7.4 million rig drilled 12 1/2" hole record was 485 ft. in 12 hour shift. I did 1065 ft. in 11 hours in the Canadian Shield which is granite. And for you drillers out there, the D40K is hands down the best ever made. Only the sonic drill is faster but different type of drilling. It's really something but all the good drills were built in the 70's. Sorry to ramble about the drilling.
