My only regret is that I never got an opportunity to see him perform live as he rarely visted my country and when he did the timing was always conflicting with things I had going on at the time. To add insult to injury he was scheduled to play with Iron Maiden about 10 years ago in June which I had tickets to that gig and he passed away 2 months before hand so I was especially devastated as he was one of the artists I wanted to see most. Still despite never getting the chance to see him live or meet the legend himself, he at least left a legacy of legendary music and was always spoken very highly of as a person to his fans. A little story about ronnie and life advice. Good friend I used to work with was the original drummer for Bang Tango. When they broke up he ended up being Vinnie Appice's drum tech for about 2 years when Dio and Motorhead toured US, Japan and Europe. (When they came to san diego I got to hang with ronnie on his bus and sit in on sound check) Anyway my friend was in germany and hadnt seen the light of day in weeks with the work hours. He did go out drinking with lemmy and ronnie a few times a week. One night hes all depressed literally crying in his beer cuz his GF had given birth to his daughter that day and he couldnt be there. Ronnie said "Hey look, some day, when she turns 18, youre gonna buy her a pretty dress, and shes gonna go out with some guy, whos gonna bend her over, rip that dress, and fuck her right up the ass. And you know what? Theres not a damn thing youre going to be able to do about it." Words of wisdom. And beer.

If I had to form a rock band with the best of the best at every position, I gotta say, RJD was possibly one of my all-time favorite vocalists in Rock'n'Roll. Paul Rodgers of Bad Company also has to be in my top 5 rock voices. He may in fact be my #1 all-time pick, and Ronnie second. Others include Jim Morrison, Ian Gillan of Deep Purple, and John Kay of Steppenwolf (Born to Be Wild). I also love the soulful bluesy rock voice of James Dewar of The Robin Trower Band, but he's sort of in a category all his own. Incomparable, really. And of course, your mileage may vary. I'm sure I have left off guys I shouldn't have so feel free to nominate them. I just can't handle any high voiced guys like Geddy Lee, Steve Perry, Robert Plant, Rob Halford of Judas Priest, Brad Delp of Boston, or Freddie Mercury. They're not on my all-time top rock voice list, and never will be....OUTSTANDING front men though every one of them truly were. If we're going for 'best front men' then I gotta talk about Noddy Holder, Ray Davies, Freddie Mercury, and Mick Jagger, who go out there and completely OWN the crowd. They're just not my idea of a deep, bad ass rock voice. Ronnie James Dio was....for sure.

Was lucky enough to meet him in a metal bar called Rockers in Phoenix Arizona. One night we had Ronnie show up because Surgical Steel was playing, a Judas Priest cover band, and he showed up along with the actual Judas Priest! And he was so nice! Walked around buying drinks for everyone, got up and rocked out with the cover band and the members of Priest! And he was a little bit of a dude! Tiny! Good memories for sure.

All these years I always thought Dio was British until I watched this and heard him talking with an American accent! Then I did a Google search on him and read that he was born and raised in New Hampshire U.S.A. However, his American accent does not sound like a New Englander but rather a Mid-Westerner ( E:G; Ohio, Indiana, Illinois or Eastern Missouri)

I never really listened to his music or was a major black sabbath fan; but after listening and watching this interview, he seemed to be one of the most coolest guys you could ever meet! very articulate and humble. I would have enjoyed hanging out with him. God bless him and I hope he is resting in peace.....I sincerely mean that

I saw Dio live in 1986, one of the best shows I ever saw. His singing live was astounding. One of the few singers who sounded better live than he did on his records.

Some people say different things about Wendy, so I think she gave greatest support to Ronnie and believed in his talent so much. Maybe in their couple he was a heart, a crazy creator, and she was more practical, like a mind. Caring manager and wife. It's extremely important for creative persons. It's just how I feel this.

Qepd.

One of the greatest ever. At 19 I thought it would be great to drop acid and see the Dio show for the Last In Line tour in '85. Got to stand front-ish row. The crew guy handling the pulleys for the dragon's head got tripped up and the head came down within inches of us there in the front rows. I haven't done acid since and I'm very happy to be here.

I'm always fascinated by people's reasons for collecting antique or historical decor. For him, it reminds him of a time when people cared about the things they made, rather than today when so much is mass produced. I, too, hope we can get to a time where artists of all sorts are able to be appreciated as much for their work.

Very Cool. One of if not the Greatest Singers in Metal History. Great Personality, couldn't ask for a nicer guy. My very 1st concert was Ronnie James Dio, The Last in Line Tour in Pontiac Michigan. Twisted Sister opened n basically got boo'd off the stage because Dee Snider said" Alright Chicago" and ofcourse we're in Detroit so that went over Badly for Twisted Sister. But Dio came out n just Killed it. The whole band was just absolutely spot on. Sounded Better than the Album. I'll never forget that show. Pine Knob is where the show was, outside venue. The pavilion was covered but outside of that was a rounded hill, kinda like the bowl, anyways, it rained lightly and I remember seeing this fine ass Beautiful girl just dressed to kill, she slipped n fell in the mud and slid all the way down to the bottom of the hill. Many memories from that show.
