I met Mr. Dio in 1984 when I was 16 years old and in my first band. My family was up in Montreal visiting relatives and we were walking around the city going into shops. I went into a record store while my parents and cousins waited outside. He was in there with someone from the road crew and when he left I casually followed him out and called his name. He turned around, came up to me and chatted for a couple of minutes. He was so incredibly nice and cordial. That made a huge impression on me as a kid. I was a little embarrassed as I was wearing a Scorpions "Love at First Sting" concert shirt lol. But he was like "hey nice shirt, they're friends of mine!" What a loss. So grateful for his voice. And what an intelligent human. We sure do need more of those.

@@roberttippett3733 The album is called Seeds Of Change. He sang two songs on the album: Mask Of The Great Deceiver and To Live For The King. Kerry Livgren was from the original band Kansas. It’s an album after Livgren converted to Christianity. He told none of the guest singers they were singing Christian lyrics. They all found out later. He did not lie to them and would have told them had they asked. He was new to Christianity. Ronnie’s vocals were top notch, as usual.

He is still gives credence to religious theism (how it helps some - placebo pill or not); it isn't a lack of anti-theism that I take issue with, it's the idea that there is a "God", in the the sense that there is a WORSHIP REQUIRING entity that creates a universe to satisfy it's own vanity, and a devil, that is an argument against true monotheism. Morality is a process for mutual beneficial survival. Without a scale to define it, morality doesn't exist. No use for morality in a heaven; it wouldn't exist, nor it's purpose. Like Dio, I was raised in Catholicism. "You put yourself in hell", meanwhile Jesus was uncomfortable for the weekend. Religious Gods don't exist. I don't know how we are here, is the only honest response. Still glad Dio existed. Can't think of a better heavy metal singer.

Absolutely ! And not only one of the greatest voices of Rock and versatile singer but I realised after all these years how much of a piece of Rock History this man actually was. Because it's not only about his solo career and his contribution to Black Sabbath and Rainbow... Even the stuff that he did in his first band Elf was already very good quality (just because a band's music isn't very original or innovative doesn't mean it's not good) and also the few songs that he sang on Roger Glover's Butterfly Ball album were already brilliant (his performance on those song is what makes them legendary... It's that good) ! If I had to choose between Rob Halford or Ronnie James Dio, I would really choose Ronnie James Dio because it's not only a question of how high you can sing or how long you can hold a note or the power of your delivery... It's also the versatility, how your tone of voice can change according to the emotion you want to deliver... And I really think in that field, Ronnie James Dio was unbeatable. Especially in that 1970's-1980's decade... Because, yes there were people like Mike Patton later on who could also manage to show this amazing versatility and flexability in the way they use their voice, but to me, Dio was really the first one to do that.

He also performed the lead vocal for a 2nd song on that same album called Mask of the Great Deceiver; of that very same album, he is the ONLY lead vocalist to sing more than one song on that album. The album, Seeds of Change was recorded when RJD was in Black Sabbath. Kerry Livgren quotes that of all the questions he's asked of that album, his choosing of RJD to sing those songs is a question he's asked more often than any other question. RJD belts out those songs perfectly and with as always, you can experience the emotion he puts into every note he passionately sings. On KZbin, there is a Kansas video of the Mask of the Great Deceiver song that Kansas' main lead vocalist, Steve Walsh sings.

I'm 51-years old and Ronnie's music has been in my life for 36 of those years and I still listen to him on an almost daily basis. People often limit the term genuis to Physicists, geneticists, philosophers, and the occasional painter but I feel like musicians should be included - RJD being one of them. His body of work in different bands is a display of something rare. His technicality singing, painting audio canvases, his lyrics that were poetry, and his ability to bring the other members together to ensure that it was about the end product: a song, was pure genius. If anyone had any doubt about his intelligence, listening to him talk in interviews will make it apparent. He was and is a legend and a giant in metal and he will live on because metal is immortal!

Dio was a cut above the average metal frontman. Never a scandal with drugs, never made the non-music press by diving into the audience like Sebastian Bach or Axl Rose and didn't write songs about "pussy pussy fuckin' pussy drunk pussy drugs pussy pussy pussy." And, even though he wasn't religious, he lent his voice to two Christian rock songs with Kansas' Kerry Livgren, plus "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen"

Once a professional metal musician of that era hit their mid-30s, more of them than let on were actually dads and married to, or monogamous with, their kids' moms. All "Drugs, Sex and Rock'n'Roll" onstage, but on the tourbus, they'd be reading the latest Tom Clancy novel and nursing a drink like a bank manager. Several Rolling Stone writers talked about how boring Rush was on the road. Not every drug-free, sober rock musician turned into a racist right-winger like Ted Nugent.

Here is the REAL Messiah, Who they REALLY Crucified for the sins of man Yad He Vav He is what Moses wrote (Dead Sea Scrolls Exodus 3) Yad = Hand He = Breath Vav = Nail He = Breath Yad He, which forms The Creators Name YaH, (Hand Breath), as YaH's Hand Forms/Creates and His Breath brings forth life (Adam) Vav He (Nail Breath), YaH's Sacrifice of Crucifixion, for those who call YaH Savior, His Breath brings forth life YaH arrives via the Tent of Meeting (Exodus 33:7:11), the exact same way YaH arrived to Joseph NOT through childbirth. YaH was NOT Crucified on a "cross", but according to Hebrew law (Deuteronomy 21), to be nailed on an Almond Tree for blasphemy as the Messiah claimed He was YaH. Ronnie James Dio was and will always be among the greatest musicians of all time... IMO! Meeting him, sitting at the bar and drinking a beer with him in Rochester, NY in 1992 was epic! Ronnie presented himself as a regular dude to me, a 21-year-old little hippie chick who was experiencing her dream of meeting (& a bonus to spend time talking with) her favorite rock star of all time. When I told him that, he appeared to be flattered and extended his appreciation with a "Thank you, that's really sweet. Can I buy you a drink?" As I recall, it took me a minute to catch my breath! Aside from the obvious, his musical talent and powerful vocal ability... He was an amazing conversationalist with a level head and clear grasp of reality who openly discussed his beliefs without preaching them, willing to answer random questions and even asked a few of his own, genuine and intellectual, yet totally cool and laid back, and so unbelievably easy to talk to! Even better, we saw eye-to-eye... since we stood just about the same height! To say it was a truly memorable night is an understatement! Thanks, Gary Holt, for inviting me to the hotel bar, which allowed me the privilege to live this unimaginable experience of a lifetime! Love & Magic 🤘RJD🤘 Rock In Peace!

Must be the rebel in you. His interview makes him sound better than what he is. You don't add Jesus to your sinful lifestyle. Like that old song: Jesus is just all right with me. Well Jesus isn't all right with you or any sinner. We all must admit to God we are sinners and must believe the gospel. The gospel is the fact Jesus paid the wages of our sins on the cross. The wages of sin is death. You must believe he did that for you. Then pray and ask him to save you from Hell. He will no matter what you have done. Btw he rose from the dead and is in Heaven next to his Father. If you receive Jesus he will receive you into Heaven when you die. Or if you are alive at his second coming he will receive you into the clouds with all other believers.

The interview is good, but the way he handles the interruption is actually the most telling part. When the camera was off, he was not off-put, edgy, irritable, etc. and when he had to continue with the same question 5 minutes later, he popped right back into the interview. Seamless. No attitude. He sincerely wanted to give a good interview. I also love how he recognized, unlike many of his peers, that although religion is often hijacked for evil purposes, that doesn’t make the core of religion (Christianity in particular), bad in itself. People who burn churches or hate all believers because of a bad experience are being extreme. And he tried to avoid those extreme attitudes. What in interesting and down to earth guy he was.

I no longer believe that God is a cosmic gangster who wants us to fear him. I never fear a friend who loves me. I fear only the violent selfishness of people destroying the gift of the world. “The meek will inherit the Earth.” Who would you roast in eternal fire if you were God ?

You cant seperate religion and faith so easily and the state and their politics runs on peoples faith in said system. Faith is a belief in the integrity or trueness of a certain thing or person. Religious people have faith that their messiah and the teachings are good. People also have faith, albiet alot less now, in their society's organizational structure known as the state. Faith in basically an belief in something without physical evidence.

@@misterknightowlandco I can separate them and I do every waking moment. I am a disciple of Christ, I follow Him and Him alone. I follow his teachings as best as I am able. I believe he is the Messiah, based on Biblical Studies and I'm more than happy to live this way until I pass on.

Thank you for interviewing Ronnie James Dio. When I listen to him talk about his music and the message in some metal songs, I realize that he was such a good man, kind and compassionate, and so far removed from people who really are evil.

Great interview, I really appreciated Ronnies lyrics on some of his songs. He kept it real to himself and portrayed what he believed and who he was. He answered the questions really well.
