Luke, have only just seen this interview. Have always loved The Small Faces, and The Faces. How Come is one of my favourite songs of all time . I know a band that play that song, and more, and they have seen Slim Chance play live recently, such a wonderful tribute to a talented musician. Will never be forgotten xxx

silverrunfilms WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY MORE than just the backbone of the Small Faces or later The Faces. Not to mention, one of the LEAST PRETENTIOUS FAMOUS musicians that ever played. Him and George Harrison Sorta the same like and down to earth spirits amongst the " rock crowd " at the time. R.I.P. IN A EARNED AND DESERVED BLISS MR. RONNIE LANE AND HARRISON.

However, he's wrong in saying that we owe the guitar to Spain. In the eastern word, there were instruments, some now long forgotten about and no longer even seen. That where string instruments that could be plucked, strummed, or bowed, that; looked and sounded very much like today's acoustic guitars; even from Africa. And let's not even begin to talk about old instruments from India or China... each culture making and playing a plethora of stringed instruments some forgotten, and only seen in tapestries or ancient art and sculpture. And everyone knows the sitar, but; even the sitar has and had bigger and smaller derivatives of itself. All I'm saying is... Let's give the PROPER CREDIT to and unto the PROPER people places and cultures. Not everything comes from Europe or the guote... Roman way or ideals. Because, IN TRUTH; Rome stole its culture from Greece whom in turn took most of thiers from Africa, mainly Kemit (egypt, a Greek name for Kemit ); and Egypt from Sumer and Sumer from even older civilizations. Then there's China... A WHOLE STORY OF CIVILIZATION AND CULTURE UNTO ITSELF!!! I'm just tired of HALF TRUTHS OR OUT RIGHT LIES from not so intelligent people. He should stick to entertainment and music; INSTEAD OF GIVING AND PARROTING OR SPREADING FALSE TRUTHS AS KNOWLEDGEABLE FACT, especially when he's not even remotely close to the actual truth of the matter. That said... I'LL CLIMB DOWN OFF MY SOAP BOX OR PULPIT!!!!! LOL! PEACE AND PROSPERITY TO ALL! TRULY! ! ! ! !

@@bluestone2001 I joined the SF through a mate who worked for Ron King the booking agent, he shared the same office's as Don Arden the SF manager. First job was to go out the East End of London and pick up the van and gear. It was parked at the rear of Jimmy Winston's fathers pub. I think it was called the Blind Beggar of The Crays era fame. The old Morris van was swapped for a brand new Commer 15cwt, loaded the gear and set off for Birmingham and the 1st gig. The lads had to help me set up the sound systems and drums as I was no musician only a driver. But I soon got the hand of it. Jimmy Winston the organist was swapped for Ian Mc Claggen, and my life got hard he had a Hammond organ and a huge Lesley speaker. A lot of gigs were two floors up over Burtons the tailors. Boy they took some humping so I gate a helper. We toured hard doing 6/7 nights a week, Sunday picture house shows, TV guest appearances, Top of the Pops etc. did a 3/4 day tour of France/Belgium. It was busy and any time in London was used up getting supply's. Your dad was great to work with and after Kenny Jones was 2nd favourite of the group, laid back and I can't remember a bad word.

@@susanborkenhagen58 Some say it was because he was a complete Plonker, maybe it was because he worked I think it was Selmer and tested amps in a sound proof room. Only a Plonker would do that. But then having worked with the guy I liked the Steve theory, having never seen his do dar day.

I think the closest to debris in the USA would be a "flea market." Of all the great talent in The Faces, Ronnie Lane has to be my favorite-him and Mac. I had the honor to see them twice-both times in my hometown of Roanoke, VA. The first time was in Feb of '71- Faces 3rd tour, with The Grease Band opening, Faces middle and Savoy Brown closing. Faces played well over(thankfully), leaving only about 30 minutes for Savoy Brown. The second time was May 12, '73 on Mac's Birthday. Mac went into some detail in his autobio, ALL THE RAGE. It was the night, just before going onstage, that Ronnie announced he was leaving Faces. Midway thru the show, Ronnie led a singalong of Happy Birthday as a huge cake was wheeled onstage. Mac grabbed handfuls of frosted cake, chased Ronnie around the stage hurling cake and raging away. All we knew was that there was a cake fight on stage. Little did we know that Ronnie had "stirred the pot" beforehand. Truthfully, by '73, Faces had radio exposure via "Stay With Me" and "Cindy Incidentally", Rod changed his tank top and feather boas several times during the show. They were more glitzy, a bit more "show"- a bit less about the brilliant marriage of music styles and a good bit less soulful. I'm sure that may have been a big part of Ronnie's decision to leave. I still enjoyed that evening but felt a bit let down. I'll never forget the first show in '71, and the impact it had on a 16 year-old just starting to dig past the surface of music....namely ME.
