He is actually still on tour, or at least was just before the Pandemic started. He appeared at our local small theatre here in Garland, TX around that time, and I heard it was close to a sell out. IMHO, he's still the "Tom Jones" of Country .. 😉

This song came on my car radio one morning. Knowing how inappropriate it was for my 5 year old niece and few of her friends, I changed the channel. To my surprise one of her friend said "that's right, only women makes beautiful mothers". The moment I went back to the channel, the song was over.

On this day in 1981 {September 22nd} Ronnie McDowell was a guest on the CBS-TV weekday-afternoon television program, 'The Merv Griffin Show'... At the time his "Older Women" was at #55 on Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart, two weeks earlier it had peaked at #1 {for 1 week} and it spent sixteen weeks on the the chart... It also reached #1 on the Canadian RPM Country Singles chart... Between 1977 and 1990 the Portland, Tennessee native had thirty seven records on the Hot Country Singles chart, fourteen made the Top 10 with two* reaching #1, the above "Older Women" and "You're Gonna Ruin My Bad Reputation" for 1 week in 1983... Ronald Dean McDowell will celebrate his 70th birthday come next March 25th, 2020... * He just missed having a third #1 record when his "Wandering Eyes" peaked at #2 {for 1 week} in 1981, the week it was at #2, the #1 record for that week was "Angel Flying Too Close To The Ground" by Willie Nelson... And from the 'For What It's Worth' department, his "You're Gonna Ruin My Bad Reputation" was the 49th in a string of 57 records that spent only one week in the top spot...

First off, let me state up front, I am a HUGE Ronnie McDowell fan!!! However, I don't think the way he was singing this song to all of the older ladies in the crowd and pointing some of the out by name, didn't go over all that well with some of them! Plus, I don't think the sexual subject of the song and they way he was REALLY pointing that part out, went over well with everyone either.....

What an embarrassment to country music. The lack of support given to their fellow artist is absolutely disgraceful. Thank goodness for the select few who overcompensated. As far as the rest of them, they should be ashamed of their behavior.
