Backspin is better explained by hitting it like you would at tabletennis. (or slice when playing golf) To get the most spin on the ball you don`t stop/decelerate to the point you hit the ball, actually that`s where your acceleration should reach maximum.

That's the thing about natural players, it's all feel and instinct. Jimmy's daughter said in a documentary that he can show you how to do any shot there is, but he can't accurately explain it

@@dnbmania thanks to him I can screw the white back with almost no effort. I always thought I had to get much power into the white but now I know I have to leave the tip longer on the white

These were the best things on Eurosport snooker. We need more fun stuff like this with the top guys having a chat and recreating classic shots or having a knockabout on a good table. Hendry's youtube channel is mostly just that, hence why it's so instantly popular.

I love the fact that Jimmy and Ronnie don't perform the shot - ie at 1:45 Ronnie snookers himself, yet Jimmy then whips the white away - but neither of them acknowledge they haven't played the shot they were asked to play.

its a feel shot .....its so hard to describe to someone who cant play it its got to be smooth and long ,quick and accelerated with some power but not a fast punch and a little bit of wrist at the end just to get it to bite ....it becomes intuitive after a while

It’s funny that ronnie isnt good when messing about like this. And cant explain technique very well. But in competition his is the greatest player to ever hold a cue. Like the way einstein couldnt explain how his mind worked

Andy needs to follow through on the shot more - the tendency on power shots is to just hit the ball harder thinking you’ll get the spin....but it’s all about the smooth cueing

Jimmy always cues up right into the bottom of the cue ball for every shot as a habit. If you slow the video, you can see he actually strikes the cue ball right where Ronnie does. Jimmy got a sweeter strike though and got more action on the ball.
