What I really like about Ronnie O Sullivan is that he has always maintained that snooker is not his life and he has not been completely dedicated to it but is still the greatest player.

Actually when he was first on the circuit, it kinda was his life, but that is when he eventually falls to bits as it gets too much. He has to have other interests to maintain interest in the game or it gets really boring for him and he loses focus. It's not that he shuns lower ranking events for the sake of it, or because he can (which he can), and it is this fact that generally kept him at a lower rank than he otherwise would've been throughout his career. If he had played every event and always maintained focus, he would have been number one since the mid-late 90s. There is no other player in the history of the 'modern' game, that could take a year out then come back and win the world title with a bit of practise beforehand.

I like how the announcers are in awe, when he's making basic shots, but when he purposely goes around the horn (3 rails) to pot the ball in the side, and it gave him position on the next shot, they call it a fluke.

Mate, there's no way in hell he ment to pot that. Look where he left the white and the pace on the ball when it went in, he ment to leave the ball up by the yellow spot which is where it would have ended up. Snooker and pool are vastly different. You don't play those sort of pots in Snooker. That was a safety shot that went in by fluke.

Theybare the commentators you are hearing and refering to, most of them ex players, they dont excited for no reason. Im not sure what shots were basic, maybe the one that kept him on a 147 break at the beginning. So its not always the shot itself but the context. Correct pool and snooker are totally different but i have to disagree that most of these are flukes, maybe 2, the rest were played as shots to nothing. It also probably worth mentioning unlike pool the players can carry on their break even when the frame is basically won. This means they may play shots in a more 'showman-like' way. Ronnie is the greatest player, but also the beat entertainer. They used to say his left handed game was good enough to be a top 5 player. Incredible talent. Watch his series on pool. Vs black widow etc etc

I was born in 1970 and grew up watching and playing snooker. I watched "Pot Black" on television in the late 70's with the not so obvious guys like Peri Mans etc. Ray Readon was the first champ i remember because he looked like my Grandfather. And we have been spoiled ever since.....Always remember we got to see Ronnie......
