Any century is impressive, but only Ronnie can do this (Tony and Jimmy could do it, but not now), it takes a natural ability that no amount of practice will give you. I was a pretty descent pool player in my time and played a bit of snooker now and again... it feels like a football field... 40 something was my best break!

If the Referee was positioned how they used to be, it would've probably been the new record. Staying behind the player effectively slows fast players rhythm, down. Just take 2 steps back and stay still as long as you don't move it won't affect the player's eyeline, that way you are much closer to the where the ball is potted.

Ronnie technically achieved his century break in 3:30, which is four seconds slower than what Tony Drago achieved in 1996 in the UK championship. Tony’s Century record was 3:26. So Tony still holds the record. Still impressive though considering it took Ronnie 3:46 to make a century when he made his iconic maximum in 1997. Edit: I am incorrect on the times, Ronnie did his Century record in 3:34 while Tony Drago did his Century Record in 3:31.

If he had gone for the black he could have hit a ton at 3:23
@SmolenskiPrince
@SmolenskiPrince Жыл бұрын
I'm afraid that is simply incorrect. A professional break officially starts when the cue ball is struck on the first legal shot of the break and finishes when all balls have stopped moving on the the last legal shot of the break. That is why the official timings are 3:34 and 3:31. I suspect when you say 'technically' what you mean is that you have come up with your own unofficial method of timing that you personally prefer.
@justanotheroldcomment.4582
@justanotheroldcomment.4582 Жыл бұрын
@@SmolenskiPrince I thought the timer started when the cueball was first struck and ended when the final/century ball disappears into the pocket. That was the case with James Wattana’s Record for a 147 at the British Open in 1992, which he did it in 7:02. That was also the case with Ron’s record when he did this iconic maximum in 1997. For the longest time everyone thought was 5:20, when it was actually 5:08. The timer used to count the break started too early. So unless the WST have changed the rules again, either I’m correct or every single Century/147 record is incorrect and they need to update it.
@justanotheroldcomment.4582
@justanotheroldcomment.4582 Жыл бұрын
@@SmolenskiPrince on the sidenote, I’ve looked at Drago’s record again, if it was to the rules if all balls stopped at the table, his record would technically be 3:28, but according to the WST, he did his record in 3:31. So someone’s got it wrong. I still stand by my statement.
@SmolenskiPrince
@SmolenskiPrince Жыл бұрын
@@justanotheroldcomment.4582 Okay, if you would like to feel like you are correct and the official timings noted are wrong then go for it. For anyone else that is interested in learning instead of feeling correct - the timing of the break does not end when the object ball goes into the pocket. This doesn't make logical sense. It is not accepted in official capacity, nor has it ever been by a reputable body/organisation etc. This is made up. Other than the timer being started too early - Wattana's and O'Sullivan's records were also initially calculated longer because the breaks used to be calculated from the moment that the previous player finished their visit instead of when the new player struck the cue ball/interacted/touched the table etc. WST DID basically just subsequently change the rules/methodology - hence Ronnie's 147 now being noted by BBC, Guiness world records, and BBC etc. as 5:08. This is explained also on Wikipedia.

I can. ROGER FEDERER, tennis incarnate. A slow starter in terms of major titles (rather like Ronnie in that regard), he played high-class tennis for about 24 years (1998-2022), which included an ascent to heaven-touched tennis from 2003 onwards, which in turn set up a period of scarcely-believable and unprecedented consistency from 2003-2019. Ronnie's great but what Fed did is greater on account of the much more intense physicality of tennis. Ronnie's knees won't give out from playing snooker (though they might from his running if he isn't careful!) but Fed's did, which is why he had to retire.

The referee has never had a workout like this ever before. Trust me, potting balls on a full size snooker table is an extremely difficult skill to do. The fact that he managed a century break in less than 3 minutes 40 seconds is totally mind blowing, this is true genius, sublime skill and mastery of the game of snooker that has never been matched by any player in history. Bet he could learn a few tips from a great Len Ganley who was the Referee when Ronnie did his mindblowing 5:20 147 break. Len Ganley could adapt to any players speed, even at Ronnie´s. I doubt these modern Refs have any experience putting colors back on with the speed Ronnie was doing here. This ref couldn't keep up with Ronnies speed in here.

Tony Drago's was only faster because the scores were a bit higher when he came to the table and he actually completed the century on the final black for a clearance. So to compare for Ronnie, if you count it from when he's on 17 and getting down for the next black, up until the moment the final pink goes in, he scores 101 in 3 minutes 16 seconds, I make it. Definitely the most naturally talented guy to ever pick up a cue. Hendry is still best ever though

2ed fastest century ever as far as I know only 3 seconds slower then Tony Drago's 3m:31s I think Ronnie has it I him to beat Tony's record, Clearly playing well at the moment. Tuffer game with Ben today but if he plays like then no problem

When the yellow go in, the time is 3:28 at same time, the speed of cue ball will never letcue ball go in, so the true time of this century is 3:28 as soon as the yellow go in

Ronnie beat the record. The timer should stop after the player makes over 100. Ronnie could have simply missed and he'd have a better time.
