Showed this to my mother, she thought it was funny, though mentioned that the part about being shot with an arrow was exaggeration. Then I remind her the time I got shot in the head by some kid's homemade bow & arrow and they decided to not take me to the hospital, despite a doctor there saying that wound would require at least 5 stitches. (end up not going to the hospital, but since I recovered it's all good) Edit: I almost forgot, the guy (also Asian) who shot me ended up becoming a doctor. Like this story just ended up having everything.

LOL jokes aside Money is everything as well as nothing. The deeper meaning to this culture of money is the experience of hardship, poverty and just to fill the stomach. While i also experience the same thing i got to experience first hand if you don't have money our family literally were only eating vegetables and salty fish for meals. Its more of a community getting together to gather enough money so that their son's can get married as well as a small sum of seed money to feed the family. Later on as the economy gets better and upward social mobility becomes much easier the Younger generation no longer experience Poverty and started to question as to why Money is so important. As for moving up the social ladder and becoming a Doctor well what is wrong with moving up the social ladder? But for those who grew up in poverty its the quickest way and ticket to provide a better life and future. But as we our Wages and quality of life goes higher younger generation not faced with the same living experience and condition wouldn't understand. They think when they are born life is so comfortable. But again Money isn't everything. However without it you cannot even donate to charity even if you want to. Look at the current condition today with the Pandemic out of control. My heart aches when i see many desperate people selling food on the streets trying to get by just to ensure their kids get fed. Its about how you choose to spend Money when you have it and its about survival when you don't.

Very true for some families. People want their children to get into a profession to take other people's money as much as possible, along with having prestige and power. Imagine you are Chinese and your parents and grandparents lived in an age that "China" got invaded and in a life of turmoil, they know money can change their children's life or save the little brother from starving to death or buy medicine for their daughter who could've been saved. They are not obsessed with money, in fact, the past nightmare of poverty and famine haunted them for decades. They want you to be rich and prestigious since they want you to live a better life. I just want to say all parents in the world are the same that they love their children, and they express their love in different ways. East or West, the majority of parents probably did the same thing which is saving money to provide their kids education. That's how you know, your parents care about you instead of money. Ps: his joke is kinda accurate btw.

If times were so bad and they were dirt poor, why get pregnant and bring another child out into this dastardly world in the first place. Just because they wanna have sex, they bring another life out to suffer just like themselves?
@ALEX-hu6ll
@ALEX-hu6ll 4 жыл бұрын
@@bhagchuandosifreidi6228 that's not correct and It's hard for people to understand it with modern mindset. you are right, it's not responsible to bring life to this world without having the ability to raise it. you are right, because you live in a developed country in 21C and your country is not currently suffering war. So, how to understand their behavior of having more children with knowing the fact that they can't raise their kids? "China" it's not a simple country, it's a civilization which extended for thousands of years. long time ago, people started to have the idea that "more kids more fortunes". because in ancient times, way before our industry civilization, every country in this world are in the stage of agriculture civilization. more kids means they will have more manpower in the future. manpower is crucially important for agriculture. Also, more kids means more opportunity they can change the life of their family. because, if there is future there are possibilities for everything. "China" didn't catch up with the industry revolution, and this land stayed in agriculture stage until mid 20C. Also, I know western will consider what you said as sin. parents are suppose to raise children and protect them. but how many parents are capable of this during medieval times? China's condition is even worse. It's not sin of having irresponsible sex. It's people's believes of passing down hope. yeah, it's cruel, but it's their war against destiny.
@src175
@src175 4 жыл бұрын
@@bhagchuandosifreidi6228 It's hope. More kids means more people to take care of you when you're old and worthless, and more kids means higher chances of one of them finding a way to advance your standard of living by learning a trade or becoming a merchant or something in ancient agrarian societies. Europe was the same too, you know, back when it was mostly agrarian, hundreds of years ago.
@Nelmistro
@Nelmistro 4 жыл бұрын
@@bhagchuandosifreidi6228 On top of what's already mentioned in this thread, I figure I'd add the cultural reference. In East Asian culture which was (and still is) considerably influenced by Confucian ideals, it is imperative for people to have kids as this ensures the continuation of their family line. Not getting married/not having kids would be the utmost of "unfilial" thing one can do as once the person passes on to the afterlife, they must face their ancestors, and to face your ancestors and to tell them "my bad, didn't have kids", would literally be disappointing 5000 years of your lineage. On the economic side, due to the ratio of capital to labour (i.e., Solow-Swan Economic Growth Model) way back then, it was important to have lots of kids back then as you needed a lot of people to tend to farming activities, especially rice farming which is especially more labour intensive than wheat farming (re: Malcom Gladwell's Outliers - Chapter on Rice Paddy culture). With that said, I figure I add my two cents. For people in first world countries in the 21st century who are highly educated, to judge people who did not have the opportunity of education, and to not understand the socioeconomic environment to which these people in the past were raised in, would be doing them a great disservice as we cannot comprehend the suffering they went through compared to our comparatively lavish lifestyles. Therefore, it is seen as imperative in traditional East Asian cultures to be wealthy. With wealth, you have the opportunity to alleviate some suffering. I'm not criticizing your comment, but I figure I'd put some context out there.

He's talking about immigrants. In China, Doctor isn't such a prestigious job, they don't earn that much money, and they are seen just as state employees by the people. Health service in China is not totally free but it's public and accessible to majority of poeple. Only in USA, where Health is a business, asian parents want kids to be doctors. I lived in China, and the scenario is pretty different. Parents still want their kids to study abroad, any thing, since that will bring prestige but mostly they want their kids to be celebreties or "business men" (the more scams they learn the better).

Asked a Chinese girl I was seeing if she had any religious affiliations and she thought for a moment (perhaps to translate in her head) and then said in all earnestness that her religion is money. @aarondodo4076
@aarondodo4076 3 жыл бұрын
You can actually expand on that, it means more than what it sounds like. Money is just paper, it is currency, it requires both sides to acknowledge its value, and it means utterly nothing without a civilized society. Civilization is a word so often used yet seldom reflected upon, really it simply means working together instead of competing against. Instead of just robbing other people's food stock with force, you decide to trust others, each specialize in a field, and as a result collectively produce more than you would otherwise. You just focus on making melons and get real good at it, I'll focus on making peaches, then in the end both of us can get both melons and peaches in abundance. But there are many specifics that each of us would want and need, everybody need different things at different times, so we all agree to use money as an universal currency to trade for what each of us want. Money itself, already IS social credit. But the existence of this system is actually not always a guarantee, we are just too used to it that we often take it for granted. It actually requires a lot of faith, faith in the fact that other people also agree to this approach, that other people are willing to cooperate. Because sadly, if they are simply adhering to short-term maximum benefit principal, simply robbing you is always the more profitable method with least effort. They don't need to spend years and specialize in a craft, they don't need to pay effort, they just need to get big and strong and then rob you by force. To be able to say "alright I'm not going to rob you, in fact I'm going to rely on you, and I'm also happy that you rely on me, the measurement of this reliance is the money you are paying me or I'm paying you" requires faith in others, faith in the unknown (others are always unknown, especially others who specialize in what you don't know). It is always a gamble to trust others, and you know it, yet you take that leap of faith with each exchange of money. So from that regard, it does become a religion of sorts --- except one would argue that you see "miracles" from this religion actually manifest in front of you quite often, reaffirming to you that it indeed works. What she's actually saying, is that her religion is "civilization". That against all odds, and even if she doesn't have the full answer, even if often there's a XXXX ton of obstacles, she still have faith that people can rely on each other and get better lives. And like you said, as with all religions, sometimes people get reeled off the track if they don't stop and reflect a bit --- if you try to grab money in such a nasty way that destroys the foundation of a cooperative civilization, well now that money is worth nothing because no one is producing anything. This is also why despite the fact that merchants and business men make even more money, Chinese parents still feel much better about their children being doctors and engineers --- these are professionals with a craft, with something solid that they can offer to others. No matter where you go, a doctor can at least earn a meal by giving people a better chance at being alive. No matter where you go, an engineer can make things and design things that do solid work and provide solid outcome. At the end of the day it comes down to faith in other living people just like yourself.

Imagine if everyone was a doctor.... Then who would make the food, the cars, the tv's, the clothes, the electricity, etc etc etc. We need farmers, technicians, engineers,.... Whatever! This is one of the biggest flaws of Capitalism. Everyone is pursuing that goddamn metal and paper and forgetting the most important things in life. And btw, being from a Socialist country, the public sector is like devouring the private sector to the point that we barely make food to sustain the native population. Everyone wants that prestige and image. And guess what, doctors don't create wealth, they don't sell anything. Other than their labor... And that is almost like selling air. I've yet to meet a person that wants to be a farmer. It's really insane. Btw our countries share a common ancestry of friendship...
