That line... "I remember everything, Patsy"... that kind of writing is what made this show so incredibly special.

It’s touching to see the Twin Towers in the background of so many of the outdoor scenes.

My mom's memory was going and dementia was setting in. One day after the umpteenth time she'd forgotten something basic like filling up with fuel, where her purse was etc. I asked her, 'does it bother you to know you don't remember things?' The dropped shoulders, the sad / frightened look....the whispered 'yes'...heartbreaking. RIP Mom, sorry I wasn't a more understanding son.

you were there for that conversation. which means you were there. give yourself credit for that. we all can do/could have done better in our lives and with our lives, and that includes your mom.

Must be tough for Patsy to face the fact that life as he knows it will never be the same. He knows when Bobby is adamant about facing the forgetfulness, it is a problem that is not going to go away. And the angst Bobby has in trying to help Patsy is overshadowed by the mere fact that even with some temporary treatment, this is not going to end well. For me personally, This Channel brings the Complete Menu of Emotions that NYPD Blue is all about....The Good, The Bad, The Funny and The Sad! This show might be viewed as a REEL part of Life....but to me it is All Too REAL. I appreciate my seat on This ride! Cheers From Ohio Everyone and Keep Strutting!

NYPDB took it to a new level back then, going head on with sensitive issues in a non preachy way, that didnt have easy answers and needed great actors to bring the hurt stoicism balance, it will never be repeated , those of us who watched it regularly, well, we got lucky we were in the sweet spot when we were...

whats it like to be jimmy smits? whats it like to have such power over your craft that saying that one line (the title of this video) instantly made me choke up. he put so little on that one line, but it was so effective, that crushed me. maybe its just too early in the morning and im not quite awake and more succeptiable to such things at this hour. probably not.

Acting is about reaching people, as Smits did with you here. You don't think it; you feel it--at some fundamental marrow of the bone level. We' see the diminishing of others and we see it in ourselves. It is scary and maddening and frustrating all at once. Smits hit it all with a look and a phrase.

Bobby Simone was practically the most moral upstanding character ever written for episodic television. Never a misstep, never an unwarranted or misspoken word. Never a situation misinterpreted or mishandled. Yet Smits made him believable. Kim Delaney won an Emmy playing alongside him. When he died, it stung the audience.

In the entire series - Patsy was probably my favorite character. Patsy looked after Simone when he was a kid - and taught him about the birds and life. Bobby Simone - looked after Patsy when the time came. Circle of life. I don't think Patsy was in more than five episodes.

I agree with PitA comment below. The success of this groundbreaking series attracted many character actors. It was a big tick on a resumé to have guested on the show. Quite a cavalcade of talent throughout the years. Bobby's, " I remember everything. " is very poignant.
