this is like, the eternal metal roof argument.. you're gonna get guys on both sides vehemently arguing either way and calling the others retards for even thinking that. my personal opinion is that through the ribs makes more sense cause more water is gonna pool in the flats than on the ribs thus less risk for leaks. counter argument to that is the screws have seals for a reason, but counter that with "the seals are eventually gonna deteriorate and leak"..... you can see how this goes on and on and on and on. the actual manufacturer of the steel will say in their paperwork how it has to be installed for the warranty to be valid, i say read that and do what they say yknow?

This roof dick is also a screwball too. That metal can be screwed on or off of the rib. I always put them on the rib but it can be done either way. Also, that vapor barrier will cause you problems. The vapor comes from inside the living space so it's going to permeate the drywall the be trapped between the drywall and the plastic causing the drywall to mold from the backside, seen it many times, I wouldn't drywall over that plastic.

Actually did a metal roof and the manufacturer MADE US install the screws in the valleys. Manufacturer had a pro on site and they had it insured so I didn't argue. So some metal roofs ARE screwed in the valleys.

I have been to countless seminars put on by the manufacturer of the metal roofing and All, absolutely ALL 5 rib metal roofing is designed to be screwed down in the flat. NOT THE RIB.

You do NOT put the screws on the ribs!!! If you go to clean snow off it you will fuck the roof up if on the ribs. If done right it will never leak. The problem people have with it leaking is when the tighten it down to much and mess the rubber washer up.

This argument is primarily due to the use of lead headed nails used back in the old days. Because they did not completely seal the hole in the panels, you had to put them up out of the water flow. These days, with fasteners with neoprene washers, you can fasten the panel in the flat where they are slightly less obtrusive. You don't say what type of panel you are using. If you are using a panel with a tall rib, you run the risk of overtightening the fastener and colapsing the rib. Also, when the fastener is in a rib, it can experience more prying action as there in not much to keep it straight. Engineers do not like to see fasteners installed in this manner. Now if you are looking at a 5V Crimp panel as is often used in Florida, many people put the fasteners in the top of the V instead of in the flat. While it is common, it makes no sense to me. While the prying action is not as bad as in a tall rib panel, you have a much harder time getting a fastener started in the top of the V (some folks turn the stack upside down and predrill them, others hit the top of the V with a hammer at the fastener location to flatten it out a little). In this instance, imagine what you are doing to the neoprene washer as the fastener tightens and rubs and catches on the V. In the commercial industry, we use the same type of screws (the heads and washers are the same) on roofs that are up to 800' from eave to ridge at a 1/4:12 roof slope. That means the fastener heads are submerged in even a light rain. We do not have a problem with fasteners leaking (as long as they are properly installed. The bottom line: people successfully do it both ways but you have a lot less chance of a problem and better uplift resistance if you put them in the flat.

Yeah and you want to make sure the screws go into the space seating not into air and there's no drip edge running up your rake and actually with that type of roofing system they have those even for a ribbed roof or what we call a pro panel they do make drip edge and ridge cap even vented ridge cap but with all the space shooting probably don't need that and you only have depending on the size of your exhaust pipe a custom pipe Jack or a premade one that you can Flash in properly and you would have to overlap the pro panel after the first panel goes up to the pipe and extends I would say probably about 8 inches to a foot install your pipe Jack overlaying the first panel from the bottom up to the pipe then put the second panel over the top end of the pipe Jack and over the first panel and seal the pipe Jack where it overlaps the first panel and where the second panel overlaps the first panel seal all these

That was cool that the one guy came by to try and make things right. I installed Alumawood Patio covers awnings carports screen rooms etc for over 5 yrs here in Vegas. Nobody ever had to go back to a job that i did to fix anything that I had done and I was always ALWAYS asked to go back and make things right or finish jobs that other installers did or didn't do. There was one installer who thought he was just the best and only did flawless work when I showed back up at the company shop/warehouse to turn in all the completed fix it work orders my boss was like "Nicole so how bad were all the callbacks? Were they actually as bad as the customers said or what?" Me not knowing the guys whos work I had to fix or complete they were in my boss's office out of view and me being the graphically honest person I am proceeded to UNLOAD everything that they had done that was just shit. After 10min he was like "so it was like that for every one of the call backs?" I said "Dude!!! That was just what was wrong with the first customer is went to". Then he starts trying no to laugh out loud and went and got his wife then asked me to continue. 20minutes later the 2 installers that were in the office came storming out stood there and were just glaring at me. Thats when my boss told me that every job i had fixed or completed that week that they were 2 who did the installs. I went right up to them and put them on blast asking them how they justified the work they did just unleashed on them neither of them had any reasons at all for the poor quality of work they had done. I was like "Guys come on your have both been doing this for over 10yrs and ive only been doing it for 2yrs why am i fixing your shit? Seriously?" I was like tell me you guys were hung over everyday from partying with strippers and hookers over the 2 weeks time you guys did these jobs because one of you ended up winning like a $50,000 jackpot so you did what bachelors that are roommates and own their house and have paid off their vehicles do because that I am ok with and I can totally understand... Turns out I was close with that scenario but it was more family orientated. Wedding related partying and a bar mitzvah. I said " dudes next time just take the week off or ask me and Benny to take over when you leave for the day. FUCKING people and their pride.
