Can we preseve rain water in underground storage, round the year for drinking purpose? I mean will it be free from any bacterial infection?

Yes. You can store. If the tank is clean absolutely no problem for drinking. Clean the tank and paint with lime once in a year when the tank is empty.

In villages some years back they had the practice of collecting rain water in big vessels from the hut roofs also. The water was used for drinking and cooking purpose as an alternative for pond water.
