Not that I'm aware of. Malarkey has been making this type of shingle for a couple decades and I haven't heard of any problems.

Impact resistance shingles are not for every area of the country. Areas prone to hail it would be a must have on your roof. Areas that never receive hail wouldn’t need this added cost to the homeowner.

Without using Google or another research tool, what does SBS stand for? If you can actually remember the term, good for you. The rest of us have better things to do and customers don't care what SBS stands for. Sheesh!

@@homesteadroofing he didn't do a good job of explaining just either. Admit it. But moving on. How would you handle it if you bought some malarkey vista class 4 shingles, and you notice on the shingle in the black sealant strip cover on the top, that it says class 3. Meaning it's old stock, from before they changed the class rating. Would you say oh well, it's vista so it's the same thing. Or would you protest because you bought and sold to your customer a class 4 shingles that is labeled right on it class 3, (and I'm not sure but that could mean the class 3 vista and the class 4 vista are truly different products)? I went to a supply house today and they showed me a vista from their stock and it said class three right on it, but they are telling customers they are class 4.

@@homesteadroofing Even if you are a chemical engineer, you don't remember all of the terms. Styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS) is a kind of thermoplastic elastomer. It has the same elasticity as rubber at the same temp. Rubber comes from a rubber tree. Asphalt and Tar come from oil, the bottom of the cracking tower. The shingles don't have any rubber in them. It's kind of like latex paint, which is really acrylic - no latex rubber in latex paint. Latex condoms are latex rubber, hence the term rubbers. But, what if it is made of lambskin? Is it still a rubber?

You guys are beating a dead horse, there's no such thing as a impact residence shingle. And what you're doing is trying to get the homeowner to upgrade costing them more on materials and labor to line your own pockets.

Beating a "dead house"? "Impact residence shingles"? Carl, you're just wrong. Just like you've been wrong in every other comment you've posted. Of course there are impact "resistant" shingles. There are no impact-proof shingles, but several manufacturers make impact resistant shingles. And, we've proved how well they work dozens of times with roofs that had no hail damage after major storms, while standard shingles all around those houses got demolished. We've even seen an I.R. shingle come through a storm that damaged all the metal roofs around it. You're stuck in 1970.
