Wheeler Peak is the highest point in New Mexico at 13,167 feet. Located in the Sangre de Christo range of the Rocky Mountains in northern New Mexico you’ll find this peak in the Carson National Forest. The region around the mountain is rich in history and culture. The Taos Pueblo is one of the oldest continually inhabited communities in North America. Over the centuries this area has seen more than its fair share of conflict and upheaval but it has continued to endure and remains a beautiful and culturally vibrant place to enjoy. Join us as we explore America and go highpointing!

We just climbed Wheeler peak, it's a great climb. Thanks for the history we never anything about the history. We are more "must climb to top!" No details needed.

i summitted Wheeler Peak on 20230617. it was still pretty snowy, but the hike was easier than i expected. spikes came in handy. finished in about 5 hours.

I did wheeler peak in early September of 2020. Although one of the foggiest days I could've chosen to summit, it was still one of the most surreal, best, coolest fall days I could've chosen. Can't wait to go back when it's clearer. Thanks for this great educational videos!

This episode was very nostalgic for me- 45 high points ago in 2012, Wheeler was our 1st and the peak that got us into doing the US state high points. Thank you for showing it to me in a new way and congrats on summiting in the snowy conditions!

I summitted Wheeler last fall as my 11th state highpoint. There was no snow at all on the mountain but it was extremely windy at the top. I wish I would have had more time to explore Taos but it looks like a beautiful area. Great job as always!!

Skye, as a retired teacher I am thoroughly impressed how complete you are in each of your video episodes. This is outstanding work! Now my question.... you are about right where I am with the state high points. So Kings and Boundary I guess are on deck. Then Mt Whitney or Mauna Kea then???? McKinley and Granite are out, so how do you feel about Gannet, Borah, Hood and Rainier. Or are you going to cross that bridge when you get there?
@RooftopsofAmerica
@RooftopsofAmerica 3 жыл бұрын
We're planning on Boundary this year. 2020 really threw off the great western extravaganza we had planned, saving it for 2022 now. For the time being since I'm living in PA these days I'll be focusing on New England and New York. Thanks for your kind words and for watching! Cheers!

In my research and review of the writings of the four major surveys I have not come across or spotted any reference or description that would fall into that category but I'm usually focused just on descriptions of the mountains themselves.
