Most of the accidents and health hazards can be traced back to corporate stingyness. Housekeeping staff are usually expected to spend 20-25 minutes with one room, which is hardly enough to clean a room after decent guests, obviously impossible after messy idiots, and the management who comes up with these silly time limits forget lots of things when calculating the working times. They only calculate by the number of rooms and they do not take it into consideration that a bed might need to be made again, since the new linen was not clean enough, the time it takes to refill Housekeeping trolleys if there's any, the time it takes to go and get something they need, the time it takes to take chewing gums out of the carpets, the time it takes to change vacuum cleaner bags, the time it would take to put gloves on and off (most housekeepers don't do it due to the lack of time). To summarise, 20-25 minutes for a room is only enough in a perfectly ideal conditions which dimply don't exist. One example is how wrong the management's attitude is that if there's 20 minutes given for one room, they expect you to clean 15 rooms in 5 hours, whilst you might not even get into your first one from starting your shift, because you had to clock in, get your list, wait for your supervisor to give you a list, go to the housekeeping store room, take your linen trolley out to your area, knock on the doors (find a room that's departed), tada, 15-20 minutes past already, and you havenot even been in your first room...

I totally agree I’ve just started working as a room attendant and I’m meant to work 9-1 cleaning 12 rooms realistically I don’t finish till after 3

I agree. I work as a hotel housekeeping, and for checkouts, we're only given 30-40 minutes (depending on the size of the room) to clean each one, and 15 minutes for stayovers. Now I usually have no problems with stayovers, as they're usually pretty easy, but checkouts on the other hand, I'm have to rush myself to be able to get even close to the time limit.

At the RCMP training Center, room attendants have just 15 minutes to clean a room and move forward, this video doesn't reflect the reality of the job's duties. Once I opened my head and I did not even receive first aid, orientation is not provided by a manager - who suppose to know all of this- but from another room attendance who focus on cleaning well and fast, it doesn't matter how. Not to mention the big heavy baskets that they have to carry. Nothing wrong with the video, just saying that all employers should do better training and accept that work safely is not rushing to maximize a profit.

A nice video showing you how it's done, but realistically going ten times that speed in real life housekeeping is not for the faint hearted, it's a workout, often having to for go breaks due to understaffing and heavy workload, I stopped taking food for a break as it's just not realistic .

May I ask anyone here who may be a housekeeper at a hotel? Must you clean off shower glasses, mirrors, and glass doors each time you enter a room? If so, how much % of the entire room is spent on glass surfaces more or less? Thank you.
@verushkaboneta47073 жыл бұрын
Yes, everything has to be cleaned. Glasses, mirrors, phones, headboard, every single thing.
