Old comment, but I have been looking at that trying to figure it out. It's a Karlby countertop that looks like it's connected to the Karlby he's using for the desk surface. It looks like he's using the thin Karlby as his desk and the wider one as the background. It looks like he's mounted the wood background directly to the wall using some kind bracket system that gives him clearance like you would do with an older style plasma TV that needed airflow in the back.

I have no doubt the select individuals who built these themselves have some kind of background in design, whether digital or in the real world. Also I agree with the majority here in saying that this level of customization for your setup, whether it be crazy RGB or glass monitors or sleek peripheral matching desk setups all require money. Or decent chromakeying / editing skills, lol. ----- ((To help restore some hope though, you can get crazy awesome looking setups that might be a level slightly below these with just creativity and patience. Design your setup, don't rush in constructing your plan and experiment.))
