For what it's worth, there is a "just the newest expansion" backing level. So, if you already have everything currently released, you can just add the newest stuff without getting any duplicates.

Thunder Road Vandetta is one of my favourite games and is a hit everywhere I bring it. I love it so much I lost my original Kickstarter copy and bought another copy right from Restoration Games. When I teach people the game I always preface it with “embrace the chaos” and most do and have a great time. It’s dumb fun and always get people talking and laughing at the table. If you do get the base game you need the Choppe Shoppe expansion with the character and car powers. It really shines with it.

With regards to point 4, I am (generally) one of those "schtuff" people, but this game is the all-time exception BECAUSE people messing with you can redound not to their honor, but to their detriment and send you careening ahead while they smash into a cliff. And it is so satisfying when it happens.

One thing to consider about your number 1 is that this isn't just full of people that don't own the game or haven't played it. I would say a fair bit of the people backing the all in may already own the retail game and want the other stuff as a discount with the big box that fits everything and then they will sell of gift the base game later. I fall into this category as do 2 of my friends. Also if I could buy expansions now like the Chop Shop I would just do that. Its not available anywhere. So I will continue to play my retail copy until the all in with the extra content/storage solution at a discount arrives.

I love this game when played with the right people. Definitely in my top 20 all time...and I'm not backing the Kickstarter. I'll pick up the new expansion and other one I'm missing when it gets to retail. 40 USD shipping is just too much. Retail will probably be cheaper, and last go around my FGS had the Kickstarter Extra's in there too.

Waiting for Choppe Shoppe to hit retail. They didn't really release their expansions to retail the first time around and considered the KS. However, if they insist on leaving money on the table, I'm okay with that. I want a $25 expansion... that's it. If they don't release their expansions to retail this time, then they clearly don't want my money and I'm okay with that.

Yeah it's really where that FOMO comes in. It's beyond that so many people feel like they'll need every expansion every time, and then end up using the base game for 90% of the time. At least that's been my experience

@@RoomandBoardReviews That happened with my gaming group and Talisman. We slowly, one at a time, got every expansion ever printed (plus the other bridge "unofficial" print-and-play expansion). Once we had literally everything ... we mostly just played with the base game (but still used the extra characters). When you have all the side-attachments, the game gets too spread out and you'll never encounter each other unless you have like 8 players.

Thanks for the video; all valid points. As another commenter says, I just embrace the chaos. For pricing, I sold my MC copy last week and had more than enough to get the Tina DotD. I get the expansion with shipping "free", a gamer gets a nice used MC copy, RG gets more money to keep making great games, and the postal service gets a cut 😆 win-win for all parties.

Your number 1 reason is the reason I'm not backing, more or less. I got the base game on sale for $36. I COULD upgrade to get everything, at nearly $200 more with shipping. Just can't see how this is worth it. Plus I expect these expansions to hit retail here and there and be even cheaper. Always found this game to be way overpriced [especially those expansions, woof]. Still, LOVE this game. I can't blame anyone for getting it all.

#5 It's a racing game, hard to argue it isn't, since it is cars. But far more a survival game. #4 No denying this one, the entire point of the game is player interaction and messing with each other. It's meant to be played with friends. #3 The game ends shortly after the first player is eliminated, and it's still fun to watch what happens. Someone can sit for five minutes. If they can't, they have bigger issues. Having less cars isn't bad though, it can actually lead to you having more power for that one vehicle. #2 This game is pure Ameritrash, so can't get past this. It's no different than Zombicide, Warhammer, D&D, or any other dice game. If you don't like randomness and fun, avoid. #1 You can't buy the Maximum Chrome edition right now, and it's completely worth it. The production is top notch, and the game is really, really fun. Also, going all-in, you can 100% sell it what you paid for it, and more likely for a profit. Own Maximum Chrome, and it's one of my favorite games.

I do want to back it, but I really don’t know if it’s going to be in the cards. Yeah, shipping is a bummer, but the maximum chrome edition is kinda tricky to find online. 🤔 In other news, I politely asked IV Studios to not have predatory pricing practices in the comments of their latest Veiled Fate video.

You compared the base game with the MAXIMUM CHROME. Wich is the base game + FOUR expansions. Of course the price is not remotly close. As a Brasilian, I can buy the base game for 650. The KS with ALL the expansions costs me 1k. It's less then double for A LOT more content. And yes, the 3 big expansions do make the game WAY better. One of then you can go without. And then there is the new mode, wich I don't know how to evaluate yet, but even if it's bad, the price of the 3 previous expansions included more then compensate. Usually I hate luck in my competitive games. BUT in this particular game's case, you must play it with the mind set that it will be just chaotically fun and not worry too much about playing optimally. Just enjoy the ride!

I resisted this the first time, but man, it reviewed really well. I tried to grab a copy after the campaign, but it was severly scalped. I saw some maximum chrome editions selling for 300-500 dollars because of how hyped it was. I resisted once, but not this, I"M ALL IN BABY!!! give me some car crushing action. My 5 year old is gonna love it.

Have you tried Rallyman GT? The concept of a racing game never seemed that appealing to me until I played it. You are rolling to move, but there is some agency in rolling the die 1 at a time and stopping before you roll 3 hazard symbols that make you spin out, or rolling them all at once to gain focus tokens that let you skip die rolls. It works really well, but it's entirely possible to fall hopelessly behind if you roll poorly and don't take the more cautious route trying to make up for lost time.

Problem is if I buy base game and then like it and want the chrome I am spending more money in the long run. Base retail game hasn’t been reselling very well. If I turn out to not like max chrome I should be able to get near my money back reselling 🤷🏻‍♂️

Went back and looked at campaign. For me it could make sense. To get retail in my country $125 Canadian -remember KS version comes with small expansion cards , and washed cars or some such . So $5 pledge - $60 base game , plus $40 max carnage , +$25 choppe shoppe is all most people need to get best bang for bucks . Expansions may not come to my country. Add in shipping for expansions etc . Most people only need $125 +shipping . Big rigs only for regulars , new mode who knows , why if base game is great . Actually original cost nearly same for me $50 vs $60 but shipping now slightly less . Now with perfect info . Great KS get repeated more and more . exceptions are small good ones not getting traction from smaller developers If USA or CDN - Chris could be right , as get it cheap , get expansions cheap later on ( in other countries absolutely no guarantees )

Pheeew! I thought you were gonna make me want to buy the game as you did with Nemesis Retaliation, but i feel reassured now as i share your no1 reason! 😄 Funnily, i think the game would work well in my game group but as a one off. I pulled away from the KS after seeing the price tag. I can't justify paying almost AU$300 for the chrome pledge for a one-off light 30min game. I guess some group will play it many times, but I'd rather fork out (and for much less $$) on the Floe Kickstarter.

I'm backing because my game group loves light dumb games like this. Also yeah I would definitely buy this if I saw it in retail but only the chrome edition. I hear the retail is fine but the expansions is what makes the game shine so I've refused to give the retail version a try because I want to try it at its best. Also if I do hate it, it's popular enough that it will be easy to flip.

Your #1 and optimal player count are the two main reasons I'm not backing. Base game can be had for ~$35 at retail if you're patient (and I'm sure this will be easier to find after this campaign), so I'd rather try the game before shelling out so much money. Second, I mainly play at 2 and everything I've heard indicates this game truly shines at higher player counts.

Maximum Chrome is really worth it, the expansions add a great deal to it except maybe the semi truck + motorcycle one. Not sure on the new expansion, but was considering it until I saw the shipping. Rough to spend 25 for shipping on a 45 game, that's likely more than twice the price of actual cost and I'm then spending 70 total for an expansion. I'll watch for reviews and maybe pick it up at retail.

I think the final point is the one that will save me. I have the base game and love it and want some of the expansions but ultimately I think I can probably get them cheaper retail and I think some look better than others so the all in doesn’t really save me money

It also really seems to me that the target of the campaign is new customers. After shipping, backers of the last campaign are taking a $22 penalty compared to the new All-In tier. I know they have limited control over shipping costs, but good lord USD $70 for just the CoC is a lot. As much as I like the game and I'd like all the schtuff, I might have to wait for retail on this.

I played this and enjoyed it! But the acquaintance that brought it to game day lives far away, so I was really mulling getting the retail version. However, we played it with the expansion that adds individual player powers, so I'd be wanting to get at least the base game plus that expansion. But now I see that I can just get everything in a single box for not much more than getting all the parts separately, plus some otherwise expensive promos? I'm not 100% certain I'll back this yet, but since none of the regulars in my group have it, I'm leaning towards yes. Of course, then the Deluxe version of Ready Set Bet is coming so I'm not sure how I'm going to stretch the budget to get both...

The only reason that would stop me from backing is your nr 1. But onfortunently the game isn’t available in any store here in Sweden. I was going to buy the base game for about $70 (yes it’s more expensive here) but it sold out and haven’t been restocked yet. The maximum chrome edition is sold second hand for about $250. So not much to do since I really think this game is up my and my playgroups ally.

I disagree with #3. The "watching others having fun" issue isn't unique to player elimination. Properly implemented player elimination accelerates the endgame and reduces the issue. Blood Rage has a comparable amount of "watching others having fun" when a player runs out of rage and/or is out of contention in the last age. But, that amount of watching others enjoy the game is acceptable. Mass market games from 50+ years ago created a negative stigma for certain mechanisms like player elimination and roll-and-move. Gamers learned the wrong lesson. The mechanisms aren't bad. The implementations are bad. I don't think everyone needs to like every mechanism, but we should be pointing out where these often slighted mechanisms work well and why. The knee jerk reaction of "bad mechanic" should be a response we're trying to move away from rather than embracing. Additionally, the "loss of agency" you describe is happening to all players. Each round tends to play a little bit faster than the last. The game is racing players to the finish. The endgame is designed to be quick and exciting.

maximum chrome is not the base edition the retail edition has no expansion packs. Maximum chrome was a kickstarter limited edition and sold in retail for like 160$ it has 4 expansions. The new all in has the big arena with it.. So your point 1 is really wrong.
@VaultBoy13

The other advantage of Maximum Chrome is that it fits everything (from the first Kickstarter) into a single box of storage. And, they've even thought about how to incorporate the new expansion into the storage (albeit with lid-lift). Storage matters. People pay $50-100 just for a big box that provides no gameplay. Maximum Chrome's value is there without the storage, and it just gets better.
