Roomba 900 series error 8 fix how to iRobot error 8

Had called to their customer service, recommended to buy a new bin. When I went to buy a new one, the reviews for replacement bin were horrible… then found this video and it worked like a charm. Saved $60 and, more than anything, less junk for our planet! Thank you!!

Add me to the happy viewer list. After deep cleaning every sensor I could find, it still gave me an error 8. I followed your example exactly and found that little fan stuck hard. Ahha! 1 Qtip and a quick air dusting later, "Tootie" is a happy camper just running all around my living room looking for dirt and I can spend the $90 I saved from not buying a new bin on a fine wine! Thank you! My Roomba, Hairy, ran over an accident from my pup, yes it was as horrible as you can imagine. I took the entire Roomba apart to give it a deep cleaning and this was the error I received when trying to start it up. I really thought the error had to be wrong and instead it was just ruined. When I opened up the bin and saw how much dog hair had accumulated on the fan I knew I needed to comment. What a feeling of accomplishment I have now thanks to you sharing this video!

Thank you for the great video! Yeah my Roomba ran over some spilled water and that with the dust build up, had the fan cemented stuck. A lil nudge to spin the fan and canned air to the rescue! Our dusty warrior is now back in business. Kudos to you Nick!

Thanks for the video! My fan blade was jammed. Used Q-tip and air but still binding a little bit. About to look into replacing when I used needle nose pliers to gently lift fan blade upward and rotate to maybe jar it loose (not remove it!). Still a little binding. Used little finger to rotate the blade some more and it suddenly broke loose. Will see how long it lasts. Thank you again!

Thanks for posting this! I had changed the filter and cleaned the bin but your video pointed me to the real problem - clogged fan. Q-tips dislodged the debris and the fan is smoothly operating once again. Only took 15 minutes. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Great video! Really helped me out. Worming: in roomba 980 there is a black sticker covering two screws. It reads something like assembled in china. Be sure to lift the margin of the sticker and to unscrew them. My model has a total of 5 screws ( 1 more than the one in the video)

Nice tip, worked great! Mine was jammed up and wouldn’t spin, had to take the red cover off the bottom. Kind of a pain to get that scissor and spring back together but I’m good to go now!

Hello, thank you for video - i have totaly disassembled vacuum chamber - also the fan - i cleaned the fan according to video and also spread a bit of WD-40 on the front side of the fan ant gently rotated the fan. After i assembled conpletely my IRobot is working well again :) thank you for video! You saved me 100eur :)

Worked perfectly. I didn’t use a q-tip-I just spun the fan with my finger. Seemed something a little sticky was in there.

Seems like my fan motor has a drag on its free rotation... perhaps windings are messed up or its no longer wieght balanced, perhaps rubbing the housing...Soldering iron to remove wires and fully open it seems next step.

If the fan is gummed up from whatever pet or other debris you can use isopropyl alcohol 91% on the cotton swab. This should not harm the electronics unless there is power applied. But being that it is out of the unit, no power should be present.

I have a 985 and the bin top is different. There are only 3 screws accessible on the top, two more on the bottom. I took them all out but the top still will not come off. It is stuck on the corner where the fan is. The black plate covers up where the 4th screw should be. I can see the fan when I take the filter out and it looks OK. I sprayed it with air and it spins. Closed everything up and tried again. Still get the error 8.

Another thing that seems to happen from time to time with the error 8 is very fine dust particles clog the sensors around the bin. I would detach the bin, take it outside, and gently tap the bottom of the bin a few dozen times to loosen up all that dust. Then, make sure the bin is as clean as you can get it... If you use a damp cloth, let the bin dry completely. Make sure all the sensors are clean and install a clean filter. If that doesn't work, you might need a new bin.

Does the fan move if you push it with a cotton swab? It may have something sticky in it even it appears clean. If the fan blades move freely, you should contact iRobot support, especially if it is new. They will likely send you a brand new bin or possibly a brand new roomba. They are very helpful and want to make sure your experience is right.
