This was as perfect a how-to video as I've seen anywhere. I only had to watch as far as 2:20 to be able to do it myself. Thank you!

Hello there! Thank you so much for showing this step by step process. I did not replace the brush, it was simply an accumulation of hair (a disk like bunched up hair) that had the brushes stuck. I cleaned it and voila! its good as new. Thank you thank you again!

I had the same problem. This video helped me have the confidence to just open it up and see what the problem was and it was a bunch of hair that I couldn't see until I took the side brush off. Thanks Jared!

Great vid. In my case though my gears were fine. The lube used had solidified slightly around the gear that spins the brush, causing the shaft to bind on the hole it goes through. Scraped off the solidified white gunk on the shaft and the hole and back in business!

Wow! Any idea what caused the lube to solidify? I thought it would be fine against most conditions outside of extreme temperatures.

@@TheOhayoDev No idea. I wonder how warm that gear gets, though.

This isn't really a "repair" of the sidebrush module. Ever run across any info on troubleshooting a known working side brush module not spinning?
@jeffdaniel7627

strengthchain: Exactly. Mine works, but the brush comes off all the time. I was looking for a video on taking the cover off the module, as I suspect there is hair underneath it.

@@jeffdaniel7627 Brush comes off? Are you sure the screw is there. Also you can open the module with a small flat screwdriver. Just undo the special screw and put the screwdriver under the plastic clip on the opposite side.
@TheOhayoDev

@@jeffdaniel7627 I've stripped one before which caused the brush and screw to come off. Maybe add a dab of loctite or super glue to the screw threads to keep it in? Just enough that you could break it out with a screw driver when needed.

@@TheOhayoDev We have a 650 and the side brush comes off even when we put a new one in. From a Roomba blog, it seems that the threads get worn out so it does not matter whether you have a new brush or not. You have to replace the whole side brush unit. I have not tried crazy glue yet for fear I won't be able to change just the brush.
@TheOhayoDev
@TheOhayoDev 3 жыл бұрын
@@johnw817 I don't know if it will work but the the past when I've stripped plastic parts I would fill the hole with glue and wait for it to dry. Then I used a screw to re thread. You could do that at your own risk but if it meses it up more it sounds like the module would need replaced anyway 🤷

Hello, good video. I replaced the side engine. There wasn't any kind of dust or hair. The first day the new engine worked fine, but the next day stopped spinning and didn't work anymore since then. Any clue about? Thanks a lot.

Sounds like either the replacement motor was bad or possibly something got knocked loose while it was running. These things vibrate a lot so it might be worth opening it back up to verify everything still looks okay

I know this is a old video, but does the roomba 600 series side brush suppose to spin all the time when roomba is cleaning?
@TheOhayoDev
@TheOhayoDev 2 жыл бұрын
I can double check but I think it will most of the time. When it is trying to get unstuck from an area it might briefly turn it off. Let me do some research and I'll get back to you

Hi. Mine stopped spinning. While diagnosing it (test 19), the brush is spinning slowly. What could it be? It's clean and gears are not stripped

I've got an I7 which I cannot remove the side brush from. I noticed it has captured a charging cable, which bound up the side brush while the robot was running. Now the brush will not spin., However, when I try to unscrew the side brush, I can hear the motor spinning inside when I turn the screwdriver, and the screw does not actually loosen at all. I'm assuming either the hexagonal socket on the underside of the side brush head has been stripped, or the hexagonal post connected to the motor has stripped. But, in either case, I cannot remove the side brush because I cannot get any resistance on the screw while trying to unscrew it. Since I can't get the side brush off, I can't find a way to get the bottom cover off. Any thoughts on how to remove the side brush or bottom cover. (Tried prying on the bottom of the side brush dome with a small screwdriver, hoping it would snap, but it looked like the internals would be damaged before the side brush head snapped.)

Sounds like a gear might have been broken within the module. If it were me I would start by removing the brush in order to take the Roomba apart and get at the brush module. I would likely use a tool like a Dremel to carefully cut/remove the brush head. It sounds like the module might not be salvageable but it is best not to break anything else so always go slow and avoid being too rough when removing parts

It is importatnt to make sure the side-brush module is fully depressed into its cavity (by keep one finger pushing hard down on it against the springs) whilst you are screwing it in.

Whew if replacing the side brush module didn't do the trick it would likely be something else electrical. Does the main brush spin?

I don't disagree but when you think about it, it kind of makes sense that these parts would wear out. Any vacuumed that you run for hours a day, every day is going to need parts replaced. I like that the iRobot Roomba makes it easy to do yourself

If you figure out how much that hour of time freed up ( by delegating the vacuum chore to Roomba) is really worth to you, I'm sure you'll realize how quick the payback is, even with occasional minor maintenance costs

This is called purposeful shit engineering to make money. it's a flexible brush that bends when it hits stuff so why would they make the part that you screw into out of plastic? The answer is so it strips out and you are forced to buy more parts every 6 months. There is ZERO excuses for that part not being made of metal. I'll never buy another Roomba.
@TheOhayoDev
@TheOhayoDev 2 жыл бұрын
I agree with the screw and the part not being made out of metal. At the very least they could have a way to attach the brushes so that it doesn't damage the part. The Shark vacuums and Neato I have just have the brush snap on and off either with a friction fit or magnets
