He even does a song with Bobby Bass(and two other, i don't remember their names), who is the guy 2nd from the left in the intro segment of this video. The whole point of sea shanties is to be able to sing while working. It isn't meant to be perfect. It is laced with a common thread of men doing incredibly hard and dangerous work finding a way to make the job easier.
@dorriebanana49834 жыл бұрын
Usually, I find myself rating trends as even parts harmless and pointless. But this one, I like. It's just wholesome when people come together to sing. It's not about being super good at it, it's just about creating a sense of community and having fun. That's why I guess shantys and traditionals lend themselves well for this. The threshhold is low, every type of voice can fit in and because the motifs include so many call and respond or repeated passages, you can learn them while they play. AND you can still shout them drunk and it only gets more authentic! Really pleasant phenomenon for a change. I just hope a small percentage of the people involved now will stick with it. It's a really nice pasttime, singing with family and friends. I have made so many good memories with that.

Speaking of this "sea shanty" genre. A French folk song that I used to listen too is a perfect example. It's called _Pique_ _La_ _Baleine_ which is a folk song from Brittany by whalers/fishers. It literally means "stab the whale" but it's about reminiscing the love of your life while out in the middle of the ocean.
