Fun fact: Spotify wasn't available in Korea until much recently unless you had a Samsung phone. It was just recently (in the past year or two) that it was made available, and even then it is still basically non-existent, as people tend to go for the precedent (which was Melon)

As of Dec 2021, Spotify's market share in Korean streaming sites is 1,46%. The two biggest streaming sites, Melon and Genie, make up 56,52% of the market shares (37,28% and 19,24%). A similar trend can be seen in most Asian countries (and possibly other areas?). So yes, the Spotify charts are VERY Western. If it was the other way around, a lot of these artists would be out. I feel like it's very important to acknowledge this bc a lot of the time the Western world feels like the rest of the world doesn't exist lol.

I personally think total monthly streams per artist is more accurate. Since monthly listeners is massively influenced by playlisting. Would like to see a video on that in the future!
@Nightstick242 жыл бұрын
It’s always interesting to see these kinds of ranking lists when they’re a very specific stat like monthly listeners. It really gives you an appreciation for how much you can manipulate information without lying because of how wildly different the lists are depending on the exact stat you’re looking at. All while looking at things most people would consider to be “popularity”. Like daily plays, monthly plays, overall plays, by month, every list varies wildly but any one of them people would typically relate to “popularity”. Also, it blows my mind how big Spotify is in the Hispanic community. So many artists that are in the top 100 that I’ve never heard a single song from, ever.

Then from their Total followers numbers redux their monthly followers. That would show which artists has most loyal and disloyal listeners. :D Or compare How many artist songs in average 1 of their fallower listens in a month. Most streamed Artists on Spotify for example month February of 2022 and divide that stream number by their monthly listeners number that month. I wondering who would come on top there.
