I remember watching that team take off when they went small. Schellenberger's defense, Goodwin and Toney from the outside, Young's solid play combined with a team where everyone had outstanding ball skills forced opponents to defend Chapman 1 on 1, which no one could do. I loved watching that team play, and that game.

Thanks for posting this, brings back the good old days. I was at this game. Was with the other winner of this game, the pep band! Man, we were loud.

Growing up as a kid, Roosevelt Chapman was my basketball hero - and I went on to wear his #22 during my own career. Shooting baskets outside of our home, I always imagined playing for my UD Flyers and taking the last-second winning shot as Velvet. Thanks for the memories!

This dude terrorized the tournament in '84...Thank you and please put up the Georgetown game. Velt coulda played in the league back then they stereotyped dudes so much especially my NYC homeboys. He and Jerry "Ice" Reynolds (LSU) used to go at it back home in Brooklyn. I remember Bobby Knight cut him Pearl Washington, Barkley, Lancaster Gordon, etc etc in the Olympic trials. '84 was a good year alotta talent,I'm having a serious flashback...

He played in the CBA, but I don't know how he didn't make an NBA roster.

At the time @ 6-4 he was considered a "tweener" had a top notch slashing game & solid inside game @ 6-4 if you're not a knock down shooter or defensive specialist making the league was tough.

I remember this game. This dude was the Truth . I'm a diehard UC Bearcats fan, but knew about and followed players like Chapman and Ron Harper (Miami[Oxford]of Ohio when they were in college. Chapman was a bad motherf%$€&# ! Should show a video of the whole game, so folks could also see how good Wayman Tisdale was as a college player. Very good pro, but one of the very best that's ever played in college.

@SFFOOL76. Certain conferences had the 3pt line even before the NCAA officially adopted it in 1986-1987. Only teams with the conferences could use that shot. For instance, if its a nonconference game, you go to the NCAA rule of the 2pt line.
@blutoblutarsky65298 жыл бұрын
during the game Damon Goodwin had a talk with Roosevelt and told him to go after Wayman Tisdale on offense. I think his deal either had a bum ankle or foul trouble or both and would not contest shots. that good advice got him 41 points

@SFFOOL76 Before the NCAA put the standard 3 pointer at the top of the arch, different conferences had different standards. I believe Utah was in the WAC. The WAC must have had the inside the arc 17' 9" line. The ACC had that line as well!

I was at the the west regionals when UD knocked off the Huskies and could have beat the Hoyas.They needed one person and that was Paul Hawkins from Dayton Dunbar.Toney and Chapman needed one more person shooting a nice smooth jumper.

This is great by the way, but man what is up with that 3 point line at the arch?
