It's very cathartic and impactful to finally see the full scope and story of RT's impact on you and Deep Sheep, I think a lot of us who grew up watching KZbin can relate to slowly falling out of love with creators who lose who they were Also the Red vs Blue and Panic mashup... didn't know I needed that but turns out I did lol

I have to agree with you, the final line of Reconstruction has to be one of, if not, the best moment of RvB. The genius way Burnie turned the comedic (and sometimes nonsensical) tone of the first 5 seasons into this realistic and dramatic masterpiece was amazing and that final line sealed the deal. Rooster Teeth will be a staple of my childhood that will forever inspire me. Thank you for sharing on how they inspired you.
@ChristopherCoxFilm

Completely agree! What helped that shift in tone was making Washington the protagonist and the comedic reds and blues the supporting cast. Super smart and ballsy but it worked! The world fell larger. The plot mattered more. They kept the comedy but it wasn’t the sole focus. The deep mystery of the Meta and Project Freelancer was the new focus.

Chris - I've been watching your videos since around 2010 when I was about 10 years old and I always could see the inspiration from Rooster Teeth feeding into your content. This video gave me closure in a lot of different ways; it was quite cathartic seeing you explain your own journey with the company because both you and RT had quite a large impact on my early teenage years. Love this video and really well summarised.

I never (fully) got into Rooster Teeth, however, ever since I was a kid I have been following YOUR channel from the early Nerf stuff to now (seriously, I had to sell in bulk old nerf stuff when I grew up because of your content inspiring me to collect them) and knowing how much of an inspiration Rooster Teeth were kind of just leaves a bitter sweet taste in my mouth. It's a shame that something that either directly or indirectly inspired and effected a lot of people turned out this way. Really is so unfortunate. Fantastic video. Your passion has never gone underappreciated.

What I take from the "I forget you" moment in RvB is Church saying he's done ruminating on the loss of Tex. The memory that's flooded his mind for years and torn him down with regret. The only path to moving past pain is acceptance. And part of acceptance is letting of "what could have been." So with RT, I forget them not as a way to bury them in the past forever, but as a way to let go of the painful memories and emotions they've caused for years.

We've all been inspired by someone or something, but always be cautious with who you stand by because you may or may not know what happens behind the scenes. It takes many good things to build a good reputation but only one thing to destroy it. Great video Chris, and I completely understand your perspective on this whole thing and just how disappointed you and many other people are.

Agreed. It's even more dangerous to idolize others when you're young because you naturally are looking for inspiration figures to help guide you through your future. I was always careful to avoid idolization, but in hindsight I very much did so with Rooster Teeth and making this video helped collect the whole story for me to reach acceptance.

The impact Rooster Teeth had on me can not be understated. Since I first watched season six of RVB in 2011 I was hooked. Same as you Chris I watched everything. RVB, RWBY, RTAA, AH, and so on. They were a big impact during my teenage years. I eventually drifted away around 2018-2019 as it just wasn’t the same anymore. Then all that other stuff happened that soured the memories. But… at the end of the day, I will remember the good times and the friends made along the way through the community that was built. Even if those friends don’t last forever. Ain’t that a bitch?

I remember I would always look forward to Fridays because that's when they would post their Minecraft Let's Plays. It was always fun looking forward to what massive structure Geoff and Gavin or their build team put together to compete in. For a few years, they did it pre-creative mode. Some of their Let's Plays were so creative too. Part of the reason Achievement Hunter let's plays were so fun is because they would make games within games, like their King series, a lot of the things they did in GTA V and GTA IV. Eventually AH just took too big of a focus on those two games and milked them dry. The same happened with Gmod/TTT/prop hunt. They just overworked it. The variety wasn't there, they had a very predictable schedule with much less random let's plays. They even would play Indie games from the Xbox store occasionally in the early-2010s. Many of the shows fans liked, like VS. and Go! were dropped. Those added so much variety to the regular schedule. Overall, the increase in corporalization is one of the reasons that RT ended. You said it best: they focused too much on appealing to a wide audience rather than just the core audience and made the stuff that made them popular in the first place. It's part of the reason why some of their later podcasts, like F*ckface, Face Jam, and Red Web were still doing decent. One, it was mostly consisted of the OG members and two, because it felt like that set of friends who made stuff for fun and truly enjoyed it, rather than because it was a job and chore to do so. Another reason is because so many familiar faces left or were ousted as bad people. It's was like a TV show that had lost most of it's main characters. Imagine if when Steve Carrell left the office, so did Rainn Wilson and Jenna Fischer the next year. By 2021, I think the only original members of Achievement Hunter that were still regularly in videos were Michael and Jack. Gavin and Geoff had taken a step back in content (especially Geoff), and Jeremy had left RT. I'm sure the new people they brought in were great people, but there were just so many new faces it was hard to keep up with and truly have a chance to enjoy them. Finally, they just had too many controversies. Workplace malpractice, Mica Burton, Joel saying some unsavory things on Twitter (not just political related things), Ryan and Adam happening the same day. At some point, fans are just not going to support a company that's been in so much hot water. I finally checked out after the Ryan situation. Ryan had long been one of my favorite members of AH, and I was devastated after that. Sorry for the long comment, but just felt I needed to get it out too. I was such a diehard fan for so many years and it was so sad to see their collapse.

I remember finding RT through Fails of the Weak and being so obsessed with the infinite sandbox that was Halo: Reach. I then remember finding you series "cool and funny clips" in reach and loving that as well, I can still remember your commentary in my head. I also remember me and my friend studying your nerf videos trying to find inspiration for our own nerf video which is still up on one of my old YT accounts from like 2011 lmao. There's definitely a huge breadcrumb trail of RT's inspiration in your content which I think trickled into me watching your content and trying to emulate it too. I think the main issue RT had was they weren't able to evolve to the newer meta of the internet/ youtube. Whether that was at the fault of WB or internal RT who knows but their content post 2020 felt too different from what they became popular for, but not interesting enough to catch the algorithm and garner new fans. It was like this weird middle ground of not pleasing old fans and not being interesting enough to new viewers. The other issue I had was they added new cast members by what seemed like their level of clout and not for their ability to mesh and create interesting videos, like I have no problem with adding new cast members but I feel like half of them didn't even know what RT or Achievement Hunter even was before joining which made their transition into videos kinda awkward and eventually lead to a shift in personality which was too different from what RT was known for. Also all the controversies didn't help lmao. I guess all things have to come to an end and RoosterTeeth had a great run for a long time but when you have content based around certain personalities it has to burn out sometime, 21 years is still an incredible feat. I feel like I've watched your content on and off since I first found KZbin, it's really nice to hear your relationship with RT and the journey you've been on.
@ChristopherCoxFilm
@ChristopherCoxFilm 2 ай бұрын
Thank you for your in depth response! I agree, the new personalities didn't mesh well and part of that might have been they didn't understand why the fans liked the existing personalities. Having any project or ongoing series based around personalities is gonna die off eventually when the personalities move on. Thank you for returning and continuing to watch me through the years of my own ups and downs. I hope to continue in the present with a new wave of inspirational and exciting new projects like my upcoming horror short and discussing my filmmaking career through inspiration videos like this and film advice for others.

Not nearly as well structured and to the point as yours though (I def was bumbling my way through mine haha) Was the same as you I started via Achievement Hunter (first ever HORSE episode) and from there fell in love with so many AH series plus Red vs Blue and beyond that RWBY. I've stayed a fan ever since but like you I wasn't surprised when the announcement of the shutdown came out. Oh my gosh Rage Quit. I totally forgot. I need to go back and watch the GOW3 horde mode video again. XD Monty Oum is my main inspiration from the crew. For years didn't realize Haloid was made by him and I thought it was one of the coolest things that one guy was able to pull that off. Learning his story, and realizing he was the guy behind the fight scenes in RvB, I wound up finding myself on the path to wanting to make my own halo shorts. But this was back when I was 14. I gave up due to my own harsh inner critic, but in the wake of this.. I want to find a way to carry the torch. Making my own models right now to later animate. I still have old models from the past I could rework. Weapons first, characters next.

All the best parts of RT are continuing, RvB restoration just came out, RWBY is going to continue in some capacity, a lot of their most successful podcasts like F**kFace and Face Jam are continuing/rebranding (regulation podcast and 100% eat respectively). Geoff said it best during the announcement stream for the regulation podcast (and I'm paraphrasing here) "I liked it best when we were making Red vs Blue in the spare bedroom when we were starting out, and now it's the five of us in the spare bedroom and I'm locking the door and nailing it shut, it's just going to be us and I'm not letting anyone else in." RT was still putting out really great content towards the end, stuff like best friends today, the new RT podcast and the revival of the lets play channel showed some real promise. If they were given more time I don't think they would have saved the company but I think they would have hit their stride even more. I'm so excited to see what everyone does as independents but it's a damn shame that there's so many amazing people who I'll probably never see in new content again. RIP Rooster Teeth.

Damn...admittedly I missed out on a *lot* of this big controversy with RT that you mentioned. Had a pretty similar attitude towards them as you and many others did-really liked them at first but eventually grew tired of the endless content and ended up dropping them. And since I wasn't following them or anyone tied to them, a lot of things went by without me even really noticing. I think the only real bit of controversy that came to me was-and I'll admit, my memory is *really* hazy on this one-a bit about a former member mentioning something about transphobic comments alongside the poor working conditions. But, this wasn't the sole focus of her statement and Gavin-and I think Michael, too-also commented on it. And from what they'd said, whatever comments had been made were never done with malicious intent, and they ended up apologized for it anyway so it really wasn't controversy that was worth holding on to. The fact that two members ended up being fired for pretty messed up reasons, including one being a potential child predator, is...yeah, I really have no words for that. And I'm kinda glad I stopped caring a long time ago or this news would've been more devastating to me. Hell, Michael looks so distraught in that brief clip you shared that I actually feel bad for him and everyone else involved. Still, it's nice to see you come to terms with their influence on you and be able to take the good from the bad. It's sad that they went the way they ended up doing, but at least they left an impact on quite a lot of us in the end.

You shouldn’t have gotten rid of the poster just cause of one guy especially if you’re as big of a fan as you seem unless you have some thing else all the AH guys signed besides Ryan but that was an awesome piece of memorabilia. Also I never heard it was underage fans I heard he was messaging fans and sleeping with them at conventions still unjustified cause he has a family but still way different than being a pedo. Idk tho the cases are pretty sparse on details from what I remember reading when this all broke I haven’t checked since the news broke basically.

From what I researched, it was grooming. I was a big fan for many years and during those years, that poster meant a lot to me. It’s in the background of several old update videos on my channel. I loved it. However it changed for me. The poster was in my closet for years before I found it. I forgot I even had it. It no longer meant what it did and I didn’t wish to own it anymore. Chris! Please make a part 2 to the nerf arena reaction series, those videos were my childhood and hearing you talk about the first two was awesome, but the last 2 where amazing and I want to know more about how you made them

Oh wow! Yeah, even if you never watched RT, you likely can relate to the feeling of disappointment when a figure or group you idolized fall apart.

@@ChristopherCoxFilm Yeah i know that feeling BUT because of that video I came across a deep sheep MEGA beanboozled video and had A TON of fun lol. Rooster teeth went down and before that became bland and a shadow of its true past self, but the inspiration of making deep sheep and having fun with friends lived on and I love it.
