"We don't know what happened to JFK, mirrors can solve that." Oh God, I died.

I'm with Gus, Burnie is insane. Also, they really need to get Neil DeGrasse Tyson as a special guest and just have Gavin ask him questions the entire time.

My friends and I have been having that mirror conversation since the podcast first came out
@LensIsDead10 ай бұрын
It's so simple it's not even worth arguing. What is the distance the light travels? 2 light-years. One to get to the mirror and one to get back to Earth. So, it would take light 2 years to go from Earth to the mirror and back to Earth. It's like absolutely simple

I totally understand what Gavin and Gus were on about when it came to people dying and it not affecting your life, but in a small way it does. It reinforces the notion that human life is pretty frail, and every death you're AWARE of adds to that growing fear and awareness that "that's gonna be me someday" Besides, it left an impression on them and made a mark on their memory, despite never personally knowing the guy.

Gavin's theory wouldn't work for one simple reason: the mirror would have to have been sent into space BEFORE the event you wanted to see. So, for example, if you wanted to see images of the JFK assassination, the mirror in question would have to have been sent into space before the assassination took place. After that point in time it's too late since the light would travel too quickly for any mirror to catch up to it and reflect the images. So basically what Gavin's mirror equates to is an overly complicated telescope, which can relay an image currently taking place to another location, similar to a video camera. It's not seeing back in time, it's recording an image and sending it.
@rodrickseto298210 жыл бұрын
You can because it takes time for light to hit the mirror and then to rebound off of it so if you look into a mirror you are seeing a past version of yourself just slightly the difference is the amount of time it takes for light to hit the mirror and then your eyes absorb it

I know you have a few projects your working on but could you do a "what does Gavin mean?" Montage of Gus or Burnie (or whoever else) guessing what Gavin is thinking, that would awesome. Btw, another great podcast highlight. :)

It's sad that with the mirror is right because light travels a year +1 then it would take another year to process +1 but then it had processed the sight from a year ago -1 so in two years you are looking back one year to a year after the experiment started
