Thanks Robbi, this should still work just fine. Of course, just use the latest versions of TWRP and Magisk. But also, read on the XDA thread for TWRP and see if people mention anything about it not working on any specific firmware(s) that you may be on. Sorry for the late reply!

MaowDroid Hi, I actually succeeded. Had no problem, Well only one maybe, when I open up magisk manager sometimes or I get a notification that magisk manager can be updates. I press install but nothing happens, it asks "Do you want to install magisk manager-5.4.3. APK now" but I have the v14.0 which is the latest one I could find.

I figured out my error, do not update to the July update it updates the BL which breaks TWRP

The combination for download mode is: Power + Bixby + Volume Down. So you're not rooted? What have you done so far?

I would say battery and performance are almost the same. It does come with a custom kernel so you can definitely make some improvements there if necessary. ;) I got it for the little bit of extra customisation using the RiCE Tweaks app. You might be able to get it from the Play Store just to have a look at what it can do. Or I'll share some screenshots or something.

You must be on QG5 firmware, where TWRP isn't working on that bootloader currently. If you take a look at the more info, I say to take a look at the TWRP XDA thread where there are many posts about what to do in this case. Thanks i watched WCKD's video on how to downgrade the bootloader but i cant find the internal storage when i plug my phone in my pc, need to copy the other firmware but cant find the storage.

Check in device manager and see if you phone comes up somwhere, then try to install the MTP drivers for it instead. Otherwise, you can try using an external SD card instead.

I got a problem. I thought my magisk wasn't working when it came to that same page as previous users displayed the old version. I had installed supersu instead. but I did not uninstall properly that I can not install magisk as when I'm flashing it come up as error and saying supersu tools are still in system! pls help. I do not know how to get rid of supersu from my phone TWRP at all!

I did try to FULL unroot in the settings. it did go away but when I flash magisk during recovery it says error and that supersu tools are still in and cannot flash magisk! :(

Michael Alvarez probably not, there was a thing where TWRP wouldn't work on newer bootloaders, but it should be fine right now.

I'm not too sure if many things have changed since this video (especially if there are compatible firmware versions for specific versions of TWRP). I would take a look at the TWRP thread to see if there have been any changes to the root guide (I think it was in Post 2).

I was reading on XDA that one user had reported that Gear VR was still working for them. I would try using Magisk Hide and selecting any Gear VR apps and hide them from root if that is really the cause.

With all the recent improvements passing SafetyNet on both those devices at lest should be quite easy. The latest Magisk 13.3 will pass SafetyNet.

MaowDroid so idk what happened but I flashed a new rom that came with magisk and it failed. Ran magisk uninstaller, did a clean install and flashed 13.3 and it passed. All I know is I'm happy 😊

Hi Ben! Sorry for the late reply. I would check out XDA for an updated guide on how to do this, I'm sure things have changed since the Oreo or even Pie (did the S8 get Android 9)? I'm not even sure if TWRP works on the latest firmware. Life's super busy for me, I'd be hard pressed to find time haha, sorry. Yeah, I would say when flashing a different ROM, you'll want to do a factory reset in TWRP before flashing, as per usual flashing procedures. But, a standard wipe in TWRP will leave your photos and videos, but apps and accounts will need to be set up again.

There's a handful of custom ROMs at the moment. Just to name 2, the Batman ROM and Renovate ICE. I'm currently using Renovate ICE at the moment and its great!

It's always a good idea to make a backup anyways, so back it up. :) Just flashing the Magisk uninstaller doesn't wipe data. It just restores your stock boot image which it backed up before installing.
