The Eyrie have two broad states, 'Bird Blitzkreig' and 'Death Spiral'. Either you get multiple roosts, and additional card draw quickly. Or you will be trapped with 1 card draw and continuous turmoil resetting your victory points. In those first 3 turns, you need to get up to 4 roosts. If you don't get 2 or 3 card draw, victory becomes impossible.

For me, the Eyrie was one of the most challenging factions. There are too many steps to consider, and very careful planning to avoid turmoil. So, after watching the video I test out your tips on Root Digital, and I doubled the score of 3 hard AIs (30 vs 15,14,9). Very smooth playthrough, almost no AP. So, hey Lord! Played a few games of Eyrie, both before and after. Putting mammal cards onto move is safer, but putting them on recruit (if you have a matching roost) is also good. BUT! One huge blunder I made that I'd warn about is to make sure you have battles to balance out the recruiting. 3 recruits with charasmatic, but only 1 battle, can easily exhaust your stockpile of units, especially if the opponent decides to play defensively and force you into a turmoil due to being unable to recruit. If you're not Charasmatic, recruiting is a good spot for a mammal card, but it makes that roost a super high value target and you should probably avoid doing it unless you have a strong defensive position, or a second roost of that type.

eyrie is like playing chess while everyone else is playing roots.the cats want to build,the rats want to mess with whoever is doing well and the racoon is just living it's life.meanwhile,the birds require you to plan your next turmoil 4 or 5 steps ahead.you're playing to end your current decree as quick as possible,because that also allows you to get all the pieces on the board

One strategy that I’ve found *lethal* in low-player games 1st turn double birds on Build with the despot. You can get 5+6 roosts consistently in 3 turns which turbocharges your card production and point gain. Inevitably you’re either gonna run out of roosts to build or get trapped, but that won’t matter because losing points hurts less with a bit headstart and you’ve still got that card production which means you can rebuild your decree in 2 turns max.

Tip 1: putting non-birds in battle can bite back while non-birds in recruit should be okay but it will weigh you down since you now have to defend those clearings. Tip 2: Do NOT pick the charismatic leader unless you start with a bird card or a card matching your first clearings suit. Otherwise you will go into turmoil immediately. Tip 3: Don't battle if you don't need to? What do you mean. You HAVE to battle if your decree tells you and you cannot if it does not. What constitutes need for this tip? Tip 4-8: I agree. Tip 9: A lot of the time that is not possible. With limited card draw and the Alliance stealing card when attacked you will often not be able to. Also getting a big decree for the sake of a big decree is not worth it. Tip 10 and BONUS: Fine I guess. Reading this again I seem harder than I intend. I thoroughly enjoy your root videos for both the great production value, the digestable short hints and the thoughts you put behind it.

Hey! Thank you for the response! I love strategy because every body has different ideas and strategies for different games. I’ll preface before I acknowledge your points by saying this is a guide recommended just to get people started and feeling like they can do something within this game. Now to your points! 1. I agree it is honestly a pretty situational thing. I would say more often than not my point was that they were the safest. 2. I have played many games and not gone into turmoil immediately after. A bird card helps though for sure! 3. Yeah, so I was just saying that people always think that they have to battle to expand and place roosts. But utilizing the “rule” mechanic can make it to where you don’t have to lose birds to place roosts. 4-8 I am glad we agree! 9. I agree with it being not the likeliest of things.but if you can you should. The Eyrie have the potential to have more actions per turn than any other faction. By the sheer possibility of what can be done I would say throwing cards on the decree and seeing what sticks is great to learn them properly Thanks for all your points ! And for watching. I love strategy and discussing it. I appreciate the interaction!
@1989yt5 жыл бұрын
@@LordoftheBoard likewise! I guess I can agree with most of your replies here but I will just emphasize that the charismatic leader start with a bird card in recruit and battle. If you do not have a bird card or a card matching your starting clearing in your opening hand, you cannot move on your turn one, which then SHOULD mean that you cannot battle that turn which will send you into turmoil round 1. The exception being if someone moves into your first clearing before your turn. So look out for that even though it might be unlikely. I will crunch the numbers for that later.
@LordoftheBoard5 жыл бұрын
That is a good point. I will also look into that as well. Have you watched the other guides? What are your thoughts?
@daithiocoinnigh Жыл бұрын
You need to remember that the birds can tie to control a clearing, so birds on the board are not critical. I hit despot as my first leader, then move and build for my first 3 moves. If you get the right cards you can put down two in recruit and build and get 4-5 roosts up prior to turmoil, and maybe have 12 points down. I have gotten all the way to 30 with the despot, Get the single slot clearings first After that If I have crafting cards I go builder and populate the board while I craft and defend. Otherwise I go commander and go on the attack to get my points that way. Charismatic is only if you end up short of birds due to sustained attack.

I am kind of a beginner player and i played only three times with this faction, and i fell in love with it. I have an observation about what you recommend. Isn't recruiting in a certain spot much easyer than attacking in the same suit/color/territory type over and over? You will quickly finish enemy pieces and lose your decrete, whereas you can almost always recruit freely at a place you have granted you have your nest down and have enough troops to do so. Idk maybe i am wrong but i feel it is very logical nonetheless.
@LordoftheBoard Жыл бұрын
What you are saying is technically true. The reason I advise against it is that recruiting is the easiest one to turmoil. When enemies want to turmoil you the just have to take all roosts of the suit. And that’s the worst kind of turmoil cause it cuts your turn off at Recruit if you can’t fulfill it. Hope that helps!

Again, loving these videos and because I love them so much wanted to humbly offer two pieces of constructive feedback: 1. Sometimes I wonder if you could be a bit more specific; for example, in Tip #1 here, you mention trashing cards in battle & move, which is a great tip, but you don't go so far as to say WHY which might baffle some 2. I love the sign-off line "let's drop the beat" but feel it could be more EPIC and effective if you chose a song that wasn't playing at that moment and hadn't already played in all the interludes; maybe a song with a big bass and heavy beat you could always save for the signoff?
@LordoftheBoard4 жыл бұрын

Good Lord I am late! Could I just ask? Wouldn’t it make more sense to dump unwanted cards into recruit and having a bird card(s) in battle? I’m really new (got the game for Christmas this year) but I just wondered why you would build up a reliance on being forced to battle in certain clearings and be able to recruit wherever rather than recruit in a variety of clearings you own and battle in more unspecified clearings? p.s. Sorry this is so long and probably poorly typed. I may have even just worked it out while typing but it can’t hurt to ask. Thanks.
@LordoftheBoard3 жыл бұрын
So the reason I don’t do that is because recruit is easy to turmoil. If you have Fox in recruit your opponents may make it their full job to take out all your Fox roosts. So recruit you have to be careful with :) you usually want to keep it with 1 color or 2 with a strong position.

Any tips on winning as the Eyrie in a 2 player game against the Cats? We just can't seem to pull that off (whoever is the Cat wins). Would including a bot be useful to check the Cats?
@LordoftheBoard3 жыл бұрын
I currently with any 2 player game run a bot since I have the clockwork. But in the base eyrie vs Marquise - the biggest advice I can give is for the Eyrie to be really aggressive - like you have to jump in and start causing issues right out of the gate.
@Maraffler2 жыл бұрын
I played two 2-player games with the birds, against the cats. I won one clearly, and lost the other. As the bird party, you have to play aggressively and prevent the cats from expanding. Be sure to start with the charasmatic leader to keep your soldier production high. Fight where possible so that your soldiers don't run out. Accordingly, losses are perfectly okay and even wanted. You should also take care of nests early to increase your hand cards.

no way dude I disagree with your strategy. First and foremost the Eyrie are strong because they can fight every turn which contrasts with your fight when you must strategy. Also dumping cards on battle seems a short trip to turmoil cause your opponents could see which cards you are placing there and they will tend to avoid those clearings just to make you go into turmoil. Move can also confuse you if you dump too much cards there one wrong move literary can send you back to turmoil. So the safest place to dump cards is Recruit cause you can defend your nest with the recruits that you get so it is a win win. The only problem here is you can place all of your recruits on the map and can't recruit more but if you time it right with battles you can attack destroy some troops and regain them at your roosts and plus as benefit you also gain a few point for destroying bases and anger your opponents which will make them attack you and loose even more troops and roosts which you can build all over again and so on. Also putting 2 cards down at the beginning will again confuse you so start slow and sure and build up fast by turn 3 putting 2 cards is fine and by turn 6 you should slow down again cause you already have too many actions to play with.

@LordoftheBoard Жыл бұрын
Move and battle are much easier to pull off in suited clearings then recruit and build. With move there is usually always a way to make the movement work. And battling is the same. Recruiting can be stopped easily and building you will run out quickly or be stopped. So if you have to place a suited card I would put it in move or battle
