I wish I would’ve known that it is perfectly fine to quit reading a book, that is part of a curriculum you are following, to your children that you don’t enjoy. Curriculum is a suggestion of what you can do, not a law that needs to be followed 100%.

I would tell myself to stop questioning myself. To stop letting other people put doubts in my head about homeschooling. This is the right decision for us. All your hard work will pay off.

It is a JOY and privilege to be a part of other kids' lives, and to have supportive adults in our kids' lives. Praise God for the community he has given you and for the eyes and hearts to see His blessing through these kids and their families.

I LOVE the note on confidence. That doesn't come until you have a few years of experience, but I couldn't be happier with the place I am mentally in now. I'm not great with words in "defending" our homeschool, but nothing you can say will make me doubt our decision and our confidence in it.

Way to go Abby, you made ME cry, tearing up about other people's kids.

Your #1 is our #1. I wish we would've know that we don't have to do it all every single day. I wish he had started with the mindset of slow but impactful. I wish we had worked on taking it slow to master the fundamentals of teaching and the new lifestyle homeschool brings. I wish we had been unhurried. (Personnally, I wish I had read the book "The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry" a long time ago, but maybe I wouldn't have been ready for it.)

I love this! I’m currently thinking of homeschooling my kindergartener and 2nd grader. I’m finishing up my MBA so I’m really worried I won’t be able to tackle both. 😢 I was thinking of stopping my schooling for this change in our family journey. Both of my sons need one on one help, they are super intelligent but like me they process differently and need the extra guidance. My oldest son’s adhd medicine gives him headaches but I can’t send him to school without his medicine because of how the school works. I’m in the process of trying to find him a better one but even that takes time. I’m in deep research on curriculum for kiddos with adhd. And since I have adhd as well, I know how hard he has it. This gives me courage to ask for help and take the leap.

My encouragement to you is that Kindergarten and 2nd grade are much simpler than you might think and may only take you from 1-2 hours to finish a day. It depends on your kids needs and curriculum style. That means you could have hours left over to do your MBA studies. It's something to consider! Wishing you the best on your journey!

I strongly agree with all of these. I also started homeschooling from the very beginning and my oldest is now in 9th grade. The biggest thing I wish I would have known is that it is a good thing to enjoy the early years. Everything does not need to be rigorous and academic to be beneficial. Seasoned homeschool moms could have told me this, but I didn't have much of a listening ear back then. I'm so thankful for how the Lord has grown me and that I can now enjoy all of the homeschooling years from my youngest one who is in preschool to my oldest.
