Rooting any Pixel Phone (Android 12 and 13) (Magisk v25.2)

An issue i have found is sometimes when flashing specifying "boot" results in a failure. To solve this look at your device and see what boot partition its using. For example my pixel says boot: b Then take your flash command and instead of specifying "boot" replace it with "boot_b" Otherwise incredible tutorial. Cheers

After a long search and deep analyzing and a headache i figured out that i needed to add adb folder in the tools folder but i had adb already with fastboot and magisk patch so i was lost and remembered i had another folder of the tools and thankfully that did it

Man, I've literally never struggled this much to root a phone before. Out the box, I was having issues with not being able to switch the device that was in control to my pc to allow me to transfer files (which im praying is the case cause i have a new USB-C 3.0 Cable coming just in case) I've done all the steps up to getting the bootloader unlocked and flashing then renaming the boot image but now no matter what I do in deleting, installing, or updating drivers. it wont detect my device while in fastboot mode to flash boot the img file. any help please? Edit: I'm not sure if this is what changed it but I did end up rooting my device, the only thing I did different during the process was as soon as I got to the fastboot section, I entered Fastboot Devices And it found the device and the rest of the process worked like normal (nothing else was different. New cord didn't change anything)

Thank you for this guide, but after I rooted my pixel 3a, I have no idea how to get all the cool apps that require rooting your phone, like repainter, shown in this video. Is there something like a magisk app store, or do I have to download apps manually from somewhere?

Repainter is on the Play Store, all you have to do is search "root apps" and you'll find a bunch of cool utilities. You can also go on XDA and Google around for some cool root apps.

What happens with software updates? Will having a rooted phone break it? / reset it to default with the newer patch? And is there a way to UNROOT this after its been rooted? I'm only considering rooting for media recovery.

OTA Software Updates will not work, although there are workarounds. You can Google around and you will find it. It will not reset when you update. And yes, there is a way to unroot and relock the bootloader.

So, Long story short. there was an OTA update and magisk didn't save my stock boot.img for some reason. i was going through a method to repair the stock boot and that process needed a reboot and even with automatic updates turned off, it still updated and now i don't have root and doing this method now just sends me into a boot loop but I know i at least have the right file because then reflashing all slots to the same stock file allows a boot

I doubt you'll check, but I get this error: FAILED (remote: 'Failed to write to partition Bad Buffer Size') When trying to upload the boot image. I am not sure what the issue is. Everything else went great.

You would have to use ADB platform tools by downloading then from Google, or flashing TWRP.

I see there is an option to uncheck Wipe Device. Is it okay to proceed without this option checked? I'm also running Android 13 Developer Preview 1. Would this not work?

Your device would be wiped regardless of whether you have that box checked. The first time you unlock your bootloader, your device is wiped for safety. It's best to leave that option checked. To answer your second question, I haven't tested Android 13 yet and I believe Magisk hasn't been updated to run on android 13.

Hi @akvaithi, I followed your steps in video till 03:33. Here I do not get this popup to "unlock Device". Instead it waits for 5 seconds and it shows me Device status: LOCKED(in green) where you have it UNLOCKED(orange) at 03:57 mark. I'm using Pixel 4a and Android 12, I enabled OEM unlock and USB debugging. Please help me out, thanks a bunch.

Make sure in Android flash tool, you have the proper check boxes ticked, otherwise it means your device is already unlocked.

Yes, Magisk does, but the method I have shown with android flash took is only supported for pixels. You would have to unlock the bootloader manually on non pixels

The option at 3:45 doesn't show an 'Unlock the bootloader'. All I see is 'start', 'restart bootloader, 'recovery mode', 'rescue mode', 'barcode'. Should I choose any of these options?

in the command prompt section where I am rebooting bootloader I'm given an error that there is more than one device/emulator. How can I address this? It is possible that you have WSA or Android Studio emulator running in the background, I recommend you disable those and try again.
