Tree planting can be a tough job, so we followed Meichen to learn about her daily life, what drives her to plant trees and why reforestation matters.
It's not as easy are just planting trees. Meichen's day starts with coffee. From there she heads out into the field and planting countless saplings in the Willamette River Valley with her team. Being a professional tree planter isn't easy. It's also often seen as a male job, but within the industry, there's roughly a 50:50 split between male and female professional tree planteers, and these people all go hard, all day long, throughout the tree planting season!

I planted every season from '73-'95, including a few seasons replanting the Mt. St. Helens blast zone. A lot of steep slopes and foul weather...and great memories! Keep up the good work and watch those j roots!

This video doesn’t depict what’s known as typical Industrial scale Oregon Tree Planting, AKA Oregonian Reforestation. It doesn’t show any Coastal Mountain steep & Deep slopes or gigantic 2-1 DF trees(100 to a planting bag) being punched into a well scalped, appropriately spaced micro-site, one that’s brush plugged on a rocky cliff in a 36 degree Oregon coastal mountain downpour! This video really isn’t Industrial or “production” based tree planting…that’s okay, doing good work nonetheless. Keep it up! planting native species in their respective site index appropriate places is high caliber work and you’ve my respect. Planting Trees or bushes isn’t easy work & doing it in the Oregon Sunshine(Rain) makes it all the more worth while!! Cheers

Hi there, as we mentioned in the caption this video was created from the perspective of the tree planter in the video. As you know, an entire reforestation project cannot be captured in a short KZbin video. We plant millions of trees in PNW for many different restoration projects. Oh! The irony! Person featured wants to help the environment but drives a great big, oversized hulking, gas guzzling polluting pick-up. Never understand why Americans seem to think that these type of vehicles are a good idea; and I grew up using pick-ups or utes as we call them Down Under on the farm. Down Under we use a ute for all kinds of things but they aren't necessarily these oversized behemoths. Can't wait until the various EV Utes due to come to market within the next 8 - 24 months.

These folks plant trees in extremely rural areas where four wheel drive is necessary🌱

@@onetreeplanted Absolutely. But having grown up in a remote rural area myself where 4 wheel drive was the norm, such a large heavy vehicle as depicted in the video, would've been a bit of a hindrance & extremely expensive to run. Smaller, lighter Utes are more versatile, spend less time stuck in the mud & are far more fuel efficient with corresponding reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.

Yeah I’ll keep what you said in mind about EV when I’m planting trees in northern Ontario 300km down a logging road with zero cell signal. I don’t know who you think you’re talking to? I will always offset my vehicle emissions by eating a plant based diet. That’s where you should be looking if you’re concerned about the environment. Your diet and plant some fucking trees my friend. Shame on you for that comment.
