I know you will probably not see this or reply but I just want to say thank you. Four years ago I decided to garden, something I never wanted to do. I came across your channel while doing research and fell in love with your content and your lovely personality. I was a container gardener but I tried to implement everything I saw you do. You taught me so much. This year I bought my first house and I am building my first raised bed garden. For years, I have been turning my waiting room into my classroom because of you and now I am living my wildest dream. Every day I go outside and I work so hard in my garden but i smile from ear to ear. My garden is my happy place, in a big way you helped make that happen.

It’s so good to see you back Jess, I sure have missed my weekly dose of roots and refuge farm. Seeing the gardens, seeing the farmers market, knowing what is going on around the farm. So glad you and your family got to spend some much needed time together, and enjoy your son’s graduation. My niece graduated this year too of her class out of 300 students. We call her out little miracle, when she was born her heart was reversed, and all her valves were twisted and had open heart surgery at two days old. And just had to have a second heart surgery last year to change out the valves due to her growth, the doctors said it was the last surgery she will have to have. But she is so smart, beautiful and talented young women. It’s such a beautiful time of year. My garden is absolutely thriving right now. My strawberries are not doing as good this year as last year. Not sure why, but could use some advice on what I could do to help them to produce more. They are the June berry variety.

I found this online for pull bugs and I will definitely try it: Build a Wall If pill bugs are making a meal out of your young vegetable plants, get some old toilet paper or paper towel rolls and place them over the seedlings to protect them. You can also use a paper cup with the bottom cut out if you need something with a wider diameter.

Pine needles under strawberries is an our best solution. The berries won’t rot on the wet ground and the pokey ends will pierce slugs! As the pine needles break down they offer acidity to the soil and you keep adding more like with any mulch.

I love so much that you took this time off to be with your family and to embrace what a significant time in your life this is right now!!! You can get so caught up just in the every day and then the extras on top of the every day get lost and then you blink and they’re gone. But your family savor it, and I can only begin to imagine how many peoples lightbulbs went off in their head witnessing this positive example , you and your family have just set for us… Is a beautiful thing to do because it is traumatic having Jackson graduate and to be a young man going off to college it’s got to be a lot to handle. You must be so proud and so traumatized at the same time lol. I know because I went through it and I’m still traumatized and I’m 61 hehehehe 😜. But I’m so glad you’re back. I make tomato sauce from cherry tomatoes that is so good, with all that concentrated flavor. I wash them well, roast them whole, drain off the released juices (I can that separately for soup base), put the tomatoes in a blender, pour that into a food mill over the pot, and it’s already so thick and lovely that it doesn’t take hours to cook down. I make some plain and others I add garlic and Italian spices to. It sounds like a lot, but the worst part of making sauce for me was always peeling the tomatoes, so now I always just roast and mill them.
