Love that color! It looks great with the color on your walls. I have the same cabinets in our house and have wanted to paint them since the day we bought the house. I've been checking out the DB paints, finishes and brushes but didn't see them used in a Bathroom until now. Thank you! I love it too - this was the perfect color with the blue walls, it's such a rich beautiful neutral! I do think this method would be fine with your humidity. You could do a second coat of the Gator Hide to really give it a layer of protection. When I painted my bathroom tiles (tutorial soon) I used 2 coats of Gator Hide and it's protected from all the water!!

I added peel and stick floor tiles to the inside cabinet bottom and the drawer bottoms. Made them easier to clean. Tip from a KZbin designer I follow.

ALL paint projects require prep and ALL pieces require a top coat, regardless of the claims the manufacturers make. This goes for Dixie Bell, Fusion (mineral paint), Annie Sloan, etc. That being said, Dixie Bell makes a great product and you did an amazing job on your cabinet. You make it look too easy! 🙂

I just chalk painted my bathroom cabinet the dark gray. I love it! I ended up going over the whole cabinet with fingernail polish, followed bu alcohol to remove the glaze from the varnish. Worked great! My doors were similar to yours and I took a chance an chipped out the middle part that sticks out and added bead board to the middle. Bought a thin bead board panel. Trimmed where the bead board met the frame. Whole new cabinet! I want to chalk paint everything now!

Hi there! I just bought white chalk paint to paint my wood cabinet. My question is, would the Gator Top HIdecoat discolour the white? I've been trying to find a good sealant/topcoat and unfortunately I've read that many discolour the white paint and turn it yellowish... if you could please help me with this I'd appreciate it lots!! It's not so much to topcoat you have to worry about, but the wood tone coming through the paint. If you use stain blocking primer first before the white paint this will protect you from yellowing. Look into this primer (in white): dixiebellepaint.com/b-o-s-s/?aff=177

I think it would be awesome! I too really like the look of matte black. The only caution I would give is that on very matte surfaces, dust, fingerprints, scuff marks show quite easily. You could use this paint and then add a topcoat of a very flat topcoat for just enough sheen to help with this issue. My favorite flat is Flat out Flat by General Finishes! amzn.to/2ZiXgAn

I can't say there's a huge difference between the two in terms of how they clean. TSP is nice because there is no smell, but you should rinse it. Denatured Alcohol is nice because it dries very quickly (due to the alcohol) but does have a bit of an odor. Either one would be a great option. For your kitchen cabinets, I'd actually recommend Krud Kutter - it's also a degreaser, and will cut through any grease so your kitchen will be ready to paint! GREAT JOB!...But...ALWAYS stir/mix the paint and sealer, regardless of their thickness. NEVER shake the paint or sealer, as that will cause a real problem, creating bubbles in the paint and/or sealer. ALWAYS apply two or more coats of paint, and depending on the paint's ability to thoroughly cover the surface, three or more coats may be needed. ALWAYS paint all edges of the cabinets door opening(s), as I saw the upper "lips" of your cabinet door openings were not painted, with your leaving a visable, unpainted "raw edge". As a rule, always lightly go over the coats of paint and sealer with 0000 steel wool, using a tack cloth to clean off all residue prior to applying the additional coats of paint and/or sealer. In doing the aforementioned, chances are far greater that you will have a LASTING and BEAUTIFUL end product that you will love.

They are both holding up great. I liked the chalk paint because it was one coat of paint to cover so it was very quick! I like the texture of the milk paint and that it has a little more shine to it. So it's a toss up, honestly. I would use either one again - whatever is less expensive or easier to get a hold of!

I think prepping the cabinets by sanding and a good primer is your best bet for the paint not scratching off. Chalk paint is a good option though, as it's durable once cured - I would certainly use a topcoat though!
