Made rope drop today. Was mid pack at the rope at 8:15, same spot as David. Walked through the 7dmt gate at 9:02. I saw the line was already all the way back to the circus area. Wait time showed as 60 minutes. Got on a train at 9:25. Out by 9:29. Wait time is now 70 minutes. Now to head back to the house and pick up the family so they can start their day in MK. They did not want to take part in the craziness. Edit - This day was also an early magic morning too. The line of cars at the gate was crazy when I left. I'd say it was about 1/2 mile long. Got back into the park around 10:30am, no lines at the parking gate and I got to park one row behind preferred parking.

i went to rope drop and was within the first 40 people by the rope but ended up still waiting about 25 minutes because so many people push and shove and run. i just walked straight like a not insane person and i got pinched off by people with strollers, my feet got ran over a few times by wheels and people literally shoved me. what's up people happiest place on earth and everyone is perfectly fine with smashing everyone else :( next time i need to be directly behind that lady lol

I can't keep up with the front of the crowd anymore, so we started arriving 10 to 15 minutes before park opening and just follow the first wave in. We don't go to 7 Dwarves (to quote my husband, we tried it and thought it not worth the wait) so we go to Space Mountain first. Arriving when we do, by the time we get back to Space Mountain the first wave has been absorbed and we typically are on the ride by 5 to 10 minutes after official opening. We then loop back in and have 2 rides on Space Mountain before 25 minutes after opening.

That's a great plan, that's similar to what I do with my kids because we don't move fast enough usually. I like to go totally against the crowd if we're not in it so we'll go to the other side and ride Adventureland and Frontierland rides. - Brian

@scbloom68
@scbloom68 5 жыл бұрын
Disney wil open mainstreet about 15 minutes before EMH starts. At the hub cast members will be checking Magic Bands to allow hotel guests into the lands. If you do not have access to EMH you can enter the park with hotel guests, but you cannot go beyond mainstreet.

Ok I have some question and hopefully you can help me. We are going to Magic Kingdom on April 25th ( Wednesday) and it says that day parks opens at 9 but they actually open at 8, right? So if we want to be in by 8 how early do you recommend getting to the parking? We are not staying at Disney resort and we will be coming with the car. Another question is should we take ferry or monorail ( we have a 4 year old, no stroller) and at what time will transportation be open? I was just wandering how long does it takes from parking till we gat inside the Magic Kingdom ( walking to the transportation, going to security etc)

Your first rider actually waited longer because he got there "earlier" and had to stand 20 minutes for the drop. It seems the best deal was take your time, get your coffee and just mosey into line. No dealing with the crowd, and plenty of time to drink the coffee and wake up your muscles for the day. :)
@touringplans
@touringplans 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, if you're only riding Mine Train. If you plan on riding other things afterwards, you will be 40 minutes behind by then which will increase your waits throughout the day. By waiting that 20 minutes for rope drop, Steve rode Mine Train and Peter Pan's Flight before Fred, myself, or Len were even done with Mine Train...and he could have done another attraction if he wasn't waiting for us. - Brian

Hey all! Love the videos! Could you do a similar video to this, but instead go to Adventure Land at rope drop and work your way around to Frontier Land, then to Liberty Square and then Fantasy land and see how many rides you can get onto before wait times start to pick up? I'm curious if you can get onto Jungle Cruise, Pirates of the Caribbean, Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Railroad, the Haunted Mansion and Peter Pan's Flight and It's Small World in good timing. And then have someone else who does the same plan in reverse? (Starting in Fantasy land and working their way around to Adventure Land trying to get on the same rides)

Are they not letting people on Main Street before park opening like they have been? I thought when we went in July that they had Main St opened earlier than just 20 min prior to opening. Or do they only let you in early to Main St early when it’s a 9am opening?

You should include the wait for the rope to drop in the Seven Dwars Train queuing time
@touringplans
@touringplans 6 жыл бұрын
It is definitely time spent waiting, but it's not time that could really be used otherwise. (At least in the park, you could use it sleeping.) If we started counting pre-rope drop time as wait time where would it stop? Waiting to enter the park? Waiting for the bus? Time showering before you leave the room? All of it leads up to getting on the first ride, this video just explains how to maximize the useable time in the theme park. - Brian
@joop1991
@joop1991 6 жыл бұрын
Time that everybody needs to spend should not be including in the queuing time (waiting for a bus, walking towards the ride). You guys arrived 7:30 am and Steve got on the first train at 8:09 am, excluding the walking this would mean you're waiting/standing/queuing for 30 minutes. Len, who entered last, queued 33 minutes in line. This means that if you just show up at the entrance plaza at around 8 am you would have to wait the same amount of time (33 minutes) as someone who showed up at 7:30 am (30 minutes prior to park opening). This of course doesn't take into account that Steve is able to explorer the rest of the park around 8:10 am in contrast to Len who would be able to go out around 8:45 am. The time you are queuing for the rope drops gives you extra time to explorer the park during the day and it splits your time waiting (15 minutes at the entrance, 15 minutes near the hub). Despite this it was enjoyable to watch and educational and proofs how quick a queue can grow.

What strategy would you recommend if we get a seven dwarves mine train and Peter Pan fast pass. If I get SDMT at 9am and Pan at 10am, is it best to do all the rides around them and go on the rides at 9:50 and 10:50? Would it be better to get fast passes later in the morning and goto Tomorrowland first to avoid the fantasyland crowds? Thanks again for your great work. Enjoy Paris!
@touringplans
@touringplans 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! It depends on how you feel about Space Mountain. If you want to ride that, possibly twice, go there first. Personally like to stay away from the rush and do Big Thunder, Splash Mountain, Pirates, and Jungle Cruise, then back toward Fantasyland with the FP+ and worry about Space Mountain later. That's mostly because no one in my family loves Space Mountain, so it's not a huge deal if we skip it. If you go to Space Mountain first you can do all of Tomorrowland before your FPs. - Brian

Maybe I missed it, but I'd love to see the same stats for Flight of Passage. I'm guessing 15 minute increments would result in exponentially higher wait times as the slope increase of the wait time curve is likely much higher for FoP than it is for 7DMT.

I did a one-man rope drop for Flight of Passage (kzbin.info/www/bejne/kJSWdmeHnbSaeck). You're right, at around 9:15am I walk the line and it was probably 2 1/2 - 3 hours long - Brian

I do a lot of your touring plans for my clients (I’m a Disney travel agent) and almost every time I put together a plan, it never lists Seven Dwarfs first. I always have to drag it into the first position and then evaluate. You said on the video that Seven Dwarfs should come up first on the plans. Why does it never end up being first when I optimize it? Thanks!

I first went to WDW in 1996 for my honeymoon with my wife Kathy. I love everything WDW. This is the kind of video that shows what and how real people are thinking when they go to Magic Kingdom and want to go to certain attractions. The Frontierland mountains is a good plan. I would say either those or the other Fantasyland attractions like Peter Pan, Enchanted Tales, Winnie the Pooh, etc. if those are of any interest to you. I personally like to stick in Frontierland and Adventureland and knock out Big Thunder, Splash, Pirates, and Jungle Cruise while everyone else is in Fantasyland. - Brian

Thanks so much for the tips! Sounds pretty much in line with what we were already planning. Fastpasses for Space are 9:45-10:45, so we'll probably crack out the two Frontierland mountains before heading over there. We arrive one day after Pirates goes down for refurb so no Pirates for me haha.

If you get there before rope drop and get slow walked to the entrance of Adventureland/Frontierland, you will be able to do splash and big thunder a few times each before the lines build to where there is a real wait. My family and I did this back in October and did big thunder 7 times (a few of those without even having to exit the vehicle). Splash was closed for refurb but, on previous trips we have done splash then big thunder then splash then big thunder repeat etc. 5 times before 10:30 with a 9:00 park open. Best way to start the day!

That's a good question, usually there will be people there that had an early dining reservation, but that was an 8am opening so there weren't earlier dining reservations. My guess is that those were people that had reservations at either Cinderella's Royal Table or Be Our Guest and decided to try to get a ride in before their meal. If that's the case, looked like it worked. - Brian

I love these series of videos and appreciate the work it takes to edit down the various footage. My interest is still how do you get to EMH from the various resorts? When we stayed at Contemporary, it was easy to figure out walking to MK would be the quickest mode of transportation. AK/DHS would be bus or Uber/Minnie Vans. AK turned out to be bus for the 8AM EMH, but we had to Uber it for the 7AM EMH, since we wanted to be at gate one our before actual EMH time. The stress point for us was whether WDW would allow Uber drivers to come pick up at the resorts, or if they'd shut them out to protect Lyft/Minnie Van service. Did we get lucky? Or does Disney always allow Uber pickup at the resorts? Epcot was a disaster for the 8AM EMH, since we could only get there via Monorail and they didn't open until 7:30AM. Not sure if I'd waste money to Uber into Epcot. Some folks got fed up at TTC and decided to Uber it in. ....I didn't stay at any of the Epcot resorts, but there you have the option of the watercraft. Does it make any sense to take boats into Epcot or DSH if you're trying to make a rope drop? I don't know the Epcot/Boardwalk area very well. Where can you walk to from there? Is there any resort where you can walk to AK? And for those who are staying on property, what are the down sides of driving to the parks for EMH rope drop? Do they charge resort guests to park at the parks? Anyway, no need to respond to every question (but it'd be nice!;). But I wanted to give you some background about how someone can see how all of the transportation options can be overwhelming. And in the end, there are few that really can get you to the parks for an early morning rope drop. No need to follow everyone's path to the rope drop in the video. So my request is that you either just narrate how you get to the parks, or maybe add it into the comments so newbies like me can follow in your footsteps and prepare our transportation options to know how to follow your rope drop tips once we get to the parks "on time". If you need more ideas for videos, how about "Early Morning Transportation Tips to make Rope Drops?" ;)

Driving/ride share is almost always going to be the fastest and easiest (parking is free at the parks for resort guests). From the Epcot resorts, walking to either Epcot or DHS is the best option early in the morning. Buses aren't bad, they usually run about 90 minutes before opening time--for my AK video (kzbin.info/www/bejne/kJSWdmeHnbSaeck) I took the bus--you cannot walk to AK at all. For an EMH buses start running about 30-45 minutes before opening, early enough to get there on time. Thanks for watching! - Brian

Usually is it crowded at rope drop for 9am park opening? We have adr at bog at 8am what time will they allow us to enter the park? And if we finished breakfast around 8:30am could we go line up and beat the crowds for 9am?
@touringplans
@touringplans 6 жыл бұрын
It always feels crowded at park opening, but once everyone spreads out a bit it feels pretty empty. With a dining reservation they will begin letting people in a few minutes before 8am, then you will have to go towards Liberty Square and around the castle while everyone else has to stay in the hub. Yes, yes, a thousand times yes--after you finish eating you will be able to line up at 7 Dwarfs, sometimes they even let you ride it a few times before the rest of the crowd gets there. - Brian

No, we don't do these tests during the Extra Magic Hours -- the time that is only for Disney hotel guests -- unless specifically stated. This particular one was an 8am opening at the Magic Kingdom, but that was the public opening time for everyone - Brian

Thank you for these videos. They have been a great help in planning our upcoming trip. Question - What was the crowd level, according to your crowd calendar, on the day you did this? Trying to gauge what a 6, 7, 8, etc... crowd levels look like. Thanks!

Thanks Luis! This was filmed Saturday, January 27 which ended up being an 8 day on our Calendar. Although even on an 8 day, it never looks too bad for an 8:00am opening. - Brian
