Love your videos, but my rope drop strategy was the opposite of yours. I hit all of the non LL attractions I could at rope drop before the crowds came and used Lightning Lanes later for the big attractions. It worked great! I had short waits for everything I went on. I think your strategy is good if you don’t care about Fantasyland as much or are willing to go to Fantasyland late at night when the crowds start thinning out. But Fantasyland in the late morning and afternoon has long waits for almost everything and strollers everywhere.
@Maxx-carnage2 жыл бұрын
You missed the point. His strategy is for people NOT paying for Genie+. That gets expensive for large families
@Praetorian82 жыл бұрын
Fantasyland attraction wait times are usually 15-35 minutes during the day (Peter Pan can get to 50). Meanwhile, the waits for the E-tickets are usually 60+. So the time savings by rope dropping E-tickets is much greater. I went on Saturday and did, Rise, Indy, BTMRR, Mansion, Splash, Pooh, and Space by 10:30. After that the rest of the day was a breeze because I could largely avoid the crowds trying to do E-tickets. Combining Genie+ basically allows you the ability to do the big attractions 2-3 times. It really depends on your goals though. If you have little kids, then it makes sense to rope drop Fantasyland.

David, you neglect to mention the upfront time cost. In order to get to the front of the rope, you have to be one of the first to the gate. In order to be first at the gate, you have to be on the first tram. In order to be on the first tram you have to be one of the first at the parking kiosk. So be at parking by 6:30 am and wait 30 minutes until it opens. Get to the gate at 7:10 and wait 20 minutes until it opens. Rush to the rope and wait another 25 minutes until drop. You have now spent one hour and twenty minutes before your first ride. The real benefit of spending that time is to avoid the massive crowds that saunter in around 11:00.

I don't need to rush the rope the moment I get in. There may be people in front of me, but not many. The ride lines are still walk-right-through with little to no waiting. I rode space mount on Thursday with my friend at 10:15am and it was a 30 min wait. When I saw the line after I stopped walking in the queue it was a little longer than when I waited on Thursday but I figured there wasn't going to be many LL passes going through so I figured it was going to be the same time I waited a few days earlier and I was right it was a little less than 30 mins! When we rope drop, which is 99% of the time, we hit Alice first thing, followed by Toad, Snow White and Pinocchio. After that it gets a bit more flexible. Sometimes we go straight to the Haunted Mansion, sometimes we hit Indy, depending on the wait times. After that it’s whatever looks best. We rarely go to RoTR that early, since everyone runs there first. But if it’s between 55-75 minutes we’ll do it. One day we rope dropped and ran all across the park “Willy nilly”. We got on everyone of the big ticket rides (minus The Matterhorn) plus all of the Fantasyland rides before 12pm. After that it was lunch, and then casual re-rides of favorites. Rope drop is really the only way to go.

Whenever we would rope drop, we use this strategy. Pre-covid we'd head over to DCA after doing all the big DL rides, around 10 or 11am, with fast passes (using max pass) for their biggest attractions and be able to get ALL big resort rides done by noon or 1pm. The inability to park hop until 1:00 has ruined that for us. We also add Haunted Mansion in the early morning mix as that is one of my favorites that I could ride all day long.

I think this is a good strategy for specific situations. If you don't have young kids, don't plan to get Genie+, and are going for one day, then this could be useful. As a vacationer, I obviously want to maximize my time in the parks, but I'll usually get multi-day parkhopper paired with Genie+ and prefer not to go through the stress of waking up early and rushing around all morning tiring myself out early in the day. To each their own though!

I rope dropped Tower of Terror back in 2015. On a magical morning I was able to be on the first ride of Space Mountain (mostly because I made a friend who let me ride with her)

I went straight to Star Tours, whose exit is close to the Space Mountain entrance, so that comes next. I'd get 3 Star Tours and 3 Space Mountain rides in one day, and still get to ride everything else.

Rope drop is 100% worth it. We were there during spring break and the park was kind of a ghost town till about 10am. We hit everything in tommorrowland and almost all of fantasyland in the first 2 hours.

Do you have a video for rope drop at Disney California adventures?

We rope drop Big Thunder, Mansion, Pirates, Indy, Matterhorn, and Star Tours in that order and we are done by 9:45 AM the rest of the day free.

Went on a Saturday with my 7.5 yr old daughter. We spent the night at a Good Neighbor motel. Hung around downtown Disney for dinner, walked around, and then turned in. Got to rope drop on Saturday around 7:30 am and hit Peter Pan for 15 min wait. Then did almost every single ride in the park using combination of genie plus, single rider, and bought rise of resistance. We missed on Autopia, Dumbo, and Storybook canals because we bought souvenirs at Club 33 and needed to wait an hour for the member to meet us and also burned 2 hrs waiting for Main Street Electrical Parade. We went home after the Disneyland Forever Fireworks. So if you are willing to spend the money you can do literally almost everything even on busiest day. Remember we left over 3 hrs on the table and 10 pm to midnight is often as good as 8 am to 10 am for wait times. But I had a 7 yr old and after 14 hrs she was a little tired. 😉
