What a great way to do this! Seems easier and faster! Thank you. I always hesitated to make a rope rug with my beautiful fabric because I just felt that it used a lot of fabric and you could not really see it. This will give me an option where you end up actually being able to SEE the fabric. AWESOME! Leave it to a sewer/crafter to find a different way to do something!

Oh & I love Gutterman thread too but made the coasters w/transparent thread. Gutterman is mostly 50 wt which my bobbin loves (60 wt in machine manual for bobbin but can get by w/50 wt)

Hi @frannicat! Great idea! Was it nylon or polyester thread?

@@SewHungryHippie It is actually Nylon & have read poly is better but purchased Sulky poly transparent from my long arm shop & it wasn't cheap but it just kept tangling & catching in throat plate. Sulky is extremely thin. Go figure?

Oh, I really like this as an alternative to wrapping lengths of fabric around the rope. I've been getting a lot of hand cramps lately. I was going to make my first rope bowl and considered not adding and fabric because I was worried about more hand cramping from wrapping the strips.

Another great method. Those rope bowls are great. I am making heart shaped coasters (rope) for the breast cancer center workers at John's Hopkins. Many are pink wrapped fabric but I used other more masculine colored scraps too. I usually get the Her-She (Hershey Bars) in pink for the breast cancer movement for the OR team. This is my 2nd "go-round" & they have literally treated me so wonderfully!❤

Don't pull on it as you're sewing, at all..... it can be difficult to do. Also take it out and press it every now and then, or try spraying it with starch and pressing. How's your tension on the machine? This does take some practice but you can do it.

You can try this: soak your rug in water, flatten it out of the floor, then lay heavy objects on it so it dries flat.

How do you keep the round rug from wanting to basket? I made a rope rug but it doesn't sit flat. It blisters or poofs in the middle if that makes sense.
