This shows the difference between a wild country ropeman 1 and ropeman 2 used on a tether or linemans belt for saddle hunting. As well my opinion on well the ropeman 2 works on 8mm oplux.

When I climbed trees (for trimming and cutting) all my foot ascenders had the grip design same as the Ropeman 2 and the fraying was minimal even after a couple years of climbing. I would think the pin grips would work better in wet conditions but Im sure they both grip fine. I dont think the fraying you showed is any cause for concern but it's when you start seeing actual cuts and strands coming apart, these ropes are ridiculously strong, I think my climbing rope is either a 11.5 or 13mm and has a tinsel strength of somewhere around 7,000lbs. I just bought a Cruzr "Super Kit" and it came with the 8mm ropes and Prusik hitches and honestly, when you hook in the knot tender is pretty smooth. I still might buy a mechanical ascender for the lineman rope because they are butter smooth. Great video showing the difference.

The Ropeman 1 "specs" for a minimum of 10mm is for DYNAMIC rope. Read the manual. They are very explicit in stating DYNAMIC rope. They provide no spec for STATIC line. DYNAMIC rope will stretch under load and become thinner. So the minimum spec rope diameter must be larger to account for this. My opinion... When using STATIC line, 8mm rope and the Ropeman 1 is fine. Static line does not stretch and thus will not reduce in diameter like DYNAMIC line will. Hitting some basic math to back that up. Dynamic rope will stretch by up to 20%. That means a 20% reduction in diameter in exchange for a 20% increase in length... So a 10mm DYNAMIC rope becomes 8mm in diameter when stretched to the max. The Ropeman1 says 10mm DYNAMIC rope is fine, and that means the manufacturer accounts for this 20% elongation and diameter reduction down to 8mm. If you're using 8mm static line, which has no stretch, then you remain within that window the manufacturer designed for. All that said, that is NOT in the Ropeman manual. They provide specs for DYNAMIC line only. But math and physics say 8mm STATIC line with the Ropeman 1 should be fine. I trust math, and so I use 8mm STATIC line with the Ropeman 1 and have never had a problem. Some, or many may still not be comfortable with this. "Whaaa... it's out of spec... whaaaa..." That's fine. I hear you. But if you're so against using the Ropeman 1 outside of what the manual explicitly states, please tell me what page it says the Ropeman 1 is designed for use on a lineman's belt, tree tether, or in hunting applications. Go on, I'll wait while you look... I'm pretty sure it says it's only intended use is as a mechanical ascender for climbing on DYNAMIC rope. So if you want to so strictly adhere to the manual, then you shouldn't be using the Ropeman 1 in hunting applications at all. Or the Kong Duck for that matter.

This is a pretty decent argument I've never heard before. I always wanted to get one because my Kong Duck moves too much on the carabiner. I'll mess with it a bit near the ground and see how it feels. Do you know if there is any more info on this? Thanks.

I highly recommend the Mad Rock Safeguard. It is AMAZING. I use 9.8mm rope because I don't walk in much further than 800 yards where I hunt.

This is exactly how I use my Ropeman 2 On my 8mm tether. I open the cam all the way up and I’m mindful of the rope. I use Ropeman 1 on my 10.5mm my linesman rope

Awesome video - what carabiner are you using on the rope man 1 setup?

With the 8mm Oplux having a breaking strength of over 4,000 lbs., it would take severals seasons climbing every day of the hunting season to damage the rope to where it was not safe.

Check out the CT Roll n lock. That's what us arborist use. It's a better design in my opinion.

Aborist as well. I use the roll and lock mostly for my adjustable bridge. I use the ropeman to progress capture and use a foot ascender to pull myself to other limbs or trees when using my grapple. I may switch to a prusik and pulley so I can slack off if needed. With just the ropeman for progress capture theres no going back(I mean there is, as long as I hold the rope and feed it manually). But I also carry extra prusiks on my saddle if I need to attach to any line anywhere

It's a shame the Kong doesn't hug the rope like the Ropeman. It would be perfect otherwise. Maybe a Ropeman 3 will come out one day. Or Duck 2.

You should show how the ropeman1 does on the oplux, even though it doesnt fit what's its recommended use is for many hunters still go with that method. Just shows more of comparison between the 2 ropeman using the same rope. Great video though.

Eckert Outdoors I didn’t want to put that in video because it is out of spec for the ropeman 1....... it will grab and some use it but your using gear at your own risk at that point.

@@garyblevins5990 I understand where your coming from with that. Either way it was a good video

Can’t believe none of you guys saw that major flat spot on that tether. He held it up right in front of the camera and it was obvious. I would put red tape on both ends of that tether and use it only for yard work or throw it away.

My new ropeman 1 doesnt grab the 10.5mm rope. I wish i could trade it with your ropeman 2 😂
