Beauty of Single line Konkan Railway RORO Trains ,Trucks on Rails is one of the most unique Service that is only offered by the Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) since 1998. RORO means Roll-on/roll-off, where loaded trucks are directly carried by railway wagons to their destination. Konkan Railways passes through tough terrains of India. There is NH-17 passing through same route. Truck drivers find it extremely difficult to drive loaded trucks through ghats, undulating surfaces, narrow roads and poor road and weather conditions. The KRC came with concept of RORO, where loaded trucks are moved on wagons and are traveled by train. This has helped in saving of fuels, decrease in wear and tear of lorries (trucks), relief to drivers of driving in extreme conditions, can reach faster to destination. This also helps in decongestion of roads and lowering of pollution. This concept has been beneficial for both truck operators and KRCL.

The KR line also sees a good number of freight trains how ever their main highlight is the Roll on - Roll off (RORO) Service offered for transporting Trucks over Rails. Presently KR is the only Zone offering such a Service in India . The service is available from Kolad (145 kms. from Mumbai), Verna (12 kms. from Madgaon) upto Surathkal (20 kms. from Mangalore) and vice-versa.

Speed of Ro-Ro train is fast enough as compared to movement by Road
Terminal time of loading/unloading is just 15 to 20 minutes in Ro-Ro.

No hassle of toll etc.

Ohhh once I seen it was an EMD coming around the curve, I had to get my headphones on to listen to its music. Outstanding view at 244...wow. An EMD powered steel tug, running on a river of steel rails, crossing a river of water. The colors on the train are a great picture. Cheers from Canada

Kokan is actually more beautiful than goa, well Goa's a part of Kokan too, but its positioned where Koakn region almost ends. So the best of Kokan is in Malvan, Kudal etc. U can find many white sand beaches with literally crystal clear water in Ganpatipule, Tarkarli, Deobagh and many more places. Along with that it also has some pretty amazing and spectacular hill stations, with waterfalls everywhere. The only problem with Kokan not being chosen the prime location for tourism is becoz, Liquor and Petroleum is too expensive ( Comapred to Goa), as it comes under Maharashtra excise department, and people are not that tourist friendly as they still got that Marathi Asmita and Maaz becoz of Shiv Sena, and are rather conservative
