I’m glad Rory has never been inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame because it would be an insult to his integrity.. Unlike many others he never sold his soul for chart success because he had the talent and the nerve to play it his own way

Cant for the life of me understand why Clapton is so painfully overrated. Rory Gallagher was so much better than all of the Strat heros, SRV, Clapton, Mayer, etc etc. I dont believe for a second that he was trying to copy all the shredders. He never gave in to the pressures to be anyone else but Rory. His Strat tone was glorious! He was electrifying in this performance regardless of his health. It was so sad that he went down like he did. So grateful for these postings of his performances!

Agreed. Clapton is painfully overrated. Guitar students virtually never ask for Eric Clapton songs to learn. Clapton cites Rory as the reason he got back into the blues.

I grew up in Ireland, born in 1963. I knew of Rory but this was the days before the internet , Spotify etc. so what amazes me is that he learned the blues and I barely knew him or the blues . I think I’m well rounded but now I’m second guessing myself. How did I not know him. I am not a musician but I love all music . Maybe I lived a sheltered lifestyle but we all did back then in Ireland . But he rose to this. Amazing. That is a beautiful progression. Has to been born in your soul to go where he did. That’s why it’s so natural for him. The gifted get an early calling I’m still looking for mine. At almost 61 I can say that he’s the best guitarist , performer Showman I’ve ever seen or heard. a friend of mine asked me who is the best to come out of Ireland and he is the man

I would add that even as young Irish are going back to roots, language etc, many of them didn't hear of him from parents, elders. Rory didn't fit the mold as a traditional musician, and his fiery rock music, many early songs were a reaction against what society "expected" and record companies wanted. Rory was truly the "Last of The Independents", always very exacting of himself. There's nothing more, I feel, than to share his music & Legend, by those of us lucky enough to know that "he was one of the greats".

I think that it is an absolute travesty that Rory never received the kind of global recognition he so richly deserved. Admittedly, he eschewed the glitz and glamour of fame and stuck to his beliefs and we are all the better for it. It's still devastating to know that he was lonely and sick in his final months 😢 RIP Rory 🙏

Hi there dear Aparecida, you are most welcome (German translation). Yes my friend, I did meet Rory when he toured here. It's a long story, but to cut it short (and please don't hate me) it shows what a sweetie Rory really was. After being bodily pulled off the stage twice, Rory said to Security "Leave her be" and left me to dance the entire concert away in front of the speaker. When the concert finished, that beautiful man threw his arm around me, gave me a kiss and asked "How was it?" (Forever humble) He was so covered in perspiration, that it was running off him, his hair was saturated. We shared a few words after, not long, I had to go, (bummer) but suffice to say, it was the highlight of my life. I've seen most of the big names in concert but NONE did it FOR the fans the way our Rory did. Still talking to me my friend? Take care, love and hugs from Australia.

I think that's not the point; it's heartbreaking to see Rory that way, not because he has grown old ( everybody grows old, that's life), but to see him so unwell, exhausted and a bit hurt and sad. It was impossible for him to keep the same level of energy in his live performances, since his touring schedule was just insane. Rory himself stated in one of his last interviews, that at that point of his life, he felt so much better as a musician - but not as a person.

I saw his gig at Leeds about a month before this. we realised something was wrong when Gerry, Mark or any of the usual members weren't with him. It was a 45 minute rush through of most of these songs cut short. He couldn't get off quick enough. The only time I ever saw him NOT get an encore. We didn't know at the time but he was starting to get very ill. This was Rory at his worst and it wasn't good. I am sorry to say I have seen better Rory tribute bands than his performance that night.

@@tommaguzzi1723 I was in Ballyshannon this past September, 2023 and visited his statue in the center of town. I was able to sit down for tea with one of the owners of an art co-op in town. He told me a lot of "Rory as a young boy" stories, even though Rory's family moved to Cork, they would come back to Ballyshannon often. I was born the same year that Rory was, so I always ask myself, "what if he was still alive?" But I'm enjoying all of his youtube live cuts. Rock In Peace, Rory.

Seen Rory many times in the 70s it's great to hear all the comments saying "no one else compares"..l agree , no one ever made me feel like Rory Gallagher especially in full blues mode. I was given the LP in 1971 "Live Taste" ( Live at the Montreaux casino) l was 16 and l have never heard anything as good by anybody. His playing and vocals whether it be blues or rock can't be touched. There will never be another Rory. RIP

Dear Aparecida, to this day I kick myself for not thinking to get Rory's autograph in all the excitement. But yes, I did get to gaze into his lovely face and scored a very sweaty kiss. (Best kiss ever!) I even had his famous strat brush against me as he gave me a hug! Most bands/artists wouldn't dream of letting you dance in the aisles, much less the stage, but there you have it. That was our Rory, all for the audience. It's a lovely memory to have. Now, no heart attacks okay? Bless you, wish you'd been there, my Rory-mad friend. Take care and have a safe and happy week. Much love from Australia.

@ SmokingJoe Stagetrucker........It absolutely breaks my heart to think that ANY audience could treat Rory badly. Here was a most unwell man, still trying his damnedest to get his music out, it's just too sad. Thankfully, I saw Rory's phenomenal talent much earlier. I still find it hard to believe any music-loving audience (especially Rory followers) couldn't SEE how unwell he was and make appropriate allowances. Hurling stuff at this gentle soul would (I'm certain) have broken his heart. I find these later gigs painful to watch, only because such an extraordinary talent would be taken from us only a year later, if that. After over 40+ years of everything "Rory", I never tire of his genius. Cheers from Australia.

Man its so sad seeing these very late concerts by Rory. You can really see him struggle singing at a few points, his health was really taking a turn for the worse. I've heard that PR's were giving him steroids, that paired with alcohol can fucking destroy you even when you're physically active and mostly healthy. The fact the new 1994 live album they just released is as great as it is... is just astonishing. His playing is still spot on though, just not as blazing. R.I.P. To such an amazing legend. One of the few rock stars who stayed true to the end

Hi Aparecida, you are absolutely right my friend regarding Rory's presence. He was the warmest person, a surprisingly soft-spoken man, (given what he'd just played and sang) and he had an overwhelming kindness about him, an aura if you prefer. That's how I knew he wasn't a very tall man, also the small hands. All in all, an amazing artist and the consummate gentleman. Never fear my dear friend, that was long ago, a lovely memory, nonetheless. Take care dear Aparecida and have a great week. Much love from Australia.

@ Jeff Mc G......Donal and others DID try to help Rory, but Rory was always his own man, at times to his own detriment. He was doing well following the transplant but an infection took hold and that was that. Lastly, it was NOT alcohol that killed Rory (didn't help) but medications including steroids. It was these that gave Rory such a bloated appearance and caused the most damage. RIP Rory.

While I'm all too aware of the pure heart and soul that WAS Rory, (met the man in 1980) I can't watch these later concerts without feeling FOR Rory. Hello my dear friend Aparecida. How lovely, I was about to call it a night when I found your latest message. Your question is not at all silly and I remember very clearly what Rory was wearing. No.......don't believe I've ever seen Rory in this shirt at Rockpalast or anywhere else before. He wore jeans and a beautiful, long-sleeved Irish Linen (white) shirt. (No, not a flannel check!) As I said, when Rory finished the gig, he was absolutely wringing wet and his white shirt was completely transparent. Yes, I wanted to say "aura" as Rory's presence WAS very special. It's hard to imagine people walking around at a Rory gig, (his shows were electrifying) so I can well understand your disappointment. I'm guessing you mean the handful of hard-core Rush fans ignorant to the genius of Rory's work. I do know that more often than not, regardless of who Rory opened for, those who came to see the "headliner" came away Rory devotees. There were a whole lot of recordings done wherever Rory was touring, the end result being "Stagestruck". Might be why I can't recall which particular songs he played. I've spent a lifetime listening to everything Rory ever did. Actually, on the cover of Stagestruck, Rory has a white denim jacket on and on the back he has a pale T.Shirt under a jacket. Without Gerry Mcavoy behind him there doesn't seem to be the same drive. Those two were a match made in heaven.

There is some confusing information given at the descriptive portion above. This was shot in France, in 1994, not in Rotterdam in 1995. This was not Rory's last concert before his death.

Altough to the ''end of his carreer'' his music was more ''rocking'' we still find these deepest emotions to share every note with his audience...tuning his guitar whilst playing at 9.55... magic! Great stuff tx 4 posting and remember Rory always!

It's incredible to realize how much Rory has influenced so many musicians including myself yet how unknown his music was especially in the U.S. It seems that only after his death have so many people discovered what we all knew all those year ago... he was and always will be the best!

I will always regret not going to see him at the Park West...the acoustics at the Brawl room on Lawrence did him no justice. What a unique, one of a kind blues shredder. If you live in Chicago Bro, you know how picky we are about the blues. Rory played it like he lived on Maxwell street.

Rory foi o melhor dia blues, um excelente guitarrista, adoro escutar os solos, as letras, as músicas... Sem dúvida ainda é o melhor pois ainda nos dias de hoje não tem ninguém ainda a essa categoria... Fã de Rory. In Brazil.

Hello dear Aparecida, hope you are fine. I noticed Martin didn't answer your question. The German for I love Rory Gallagher is "Ich liebe Rory Gallagher". Knowing how much you love Rory, I felt sorry your question had not been answered so hope that helps. Take care my friend and have a safe and happy week. Much love from Australia.

Guess who Aparecida? Sorry my friend, thought I'd forgotten something. I saw this tour at the Perth Concert Hall on the 18.06.'80. I agree with you regarding Ted. He has such an "impish" look but he's dynamite on those drums. (Rory always had great drummers IMHO) Add the very talented Gerry McAvoy into the mix and you had one hell of a Power Trio. Think that's about it my friend. Take care Aparecida, my special "Rory" friend and have a wonderful week. Much love from Australia.

44:26 No doubt a reference to the Rolling Stones and Rory's audition with them some 20 years earlier. So glad nothing ever came of it and he stuck to his uncompromising love of the blues and largely staying out of the mainstream spotlight.

Sad to say, Rory was on his last legs here. His liver was clearly failing, leading to his bloated appearance. Vocals aren't too good, but, as usual, his guitar playing remains as brilliant as ever. It is hard for me to watch videos from this era, realizing the greatest of all the electric blues guitarists had only months left to live.
