As a survivor of a 4 hour Rory gig in the mid-Eighties I can tell you he was a force of nature.

Ha must have been the greatest guy. Many guitarists, from Brian May to Slash, have talked about how much he had an open ear for them and was very easy to get along with.

When Rush was getting a little notice they backed up Rory , Later on when Rush was a main attraction Rory backed them up , Alex would watch him play from the sides, Alex talked about how he learnt some tech from Rory which he used in his playing , Rory and Alex became close friends and hung out together they did not talk about music so much , more about life and books , They compared the situations between Ireland and Serbia where Alexes parents are from ,

Thanks! This performance was the encore at the end of a concert, and he still had this kind of mad energy. Definitely not his best playing or vocals, but the performance is simply amazing. There is and will never be anyone like Rory. His Strat was so worn because he played it to death, on the road constantly. There's a long story about this Strat that is well worth checking out. Definitely check out other performances such as pretty much anything from Irish Tour '74 or the 1979 Rock Goes to College for a better sample of his insane guitar abilities and bluesy vocals. Another performance that is outstanding is 1977 Hammersmith Odeon. Check out "Calling Card" from that session-more laid back but amazing guitar work and good vocals.

Rory was born in Northern Ireland and formed the band Taste which was gonna be a huge group, people were thinking another Cream and then they played the Isle of Weight concert with lots of big acts and suddenly Rorey was turned off and went back to Ireland, bought the one guitar he played for his whole life for 100 English pounds and except for an acoustic used for bottle neck blues he never got another guitar in his life. During that period he had a visit from Mick Jagger offering him a place in the Stones to replace Brian Jones, but he demured and kept on living in Cork Ireland traveling to Europe, Japan, US and so many different places in the 70's and 80's and just kept bringing his version of the blues to people til he died rather young, a happy musician living in his homeland and occasionally going to Switzerland for the big concerts there once a year. From about 68 til even til this day I listen to Rory all the time. Now, I am 76 and my homies groan if they are riding in my car and start squawking, do we gotta listen to Rory again?

Donegal is NOT in Northern Ireland. And Cork city, where he grew up, is certainly not. And he got the Strat well before Taste. Just saying.

@@squamishfish Yep 👍 I’ve seen the interview with Alex talking about Rory. A friend of mine played in a band called Dr Feelgood for over thirty years and Rory was one of his heroes from an early age. They happened to be on the same bill one night in Germany. Steve said Rory told him he enjoyed his playing - and they spent much of the night after the gig in the hotel bar drinking and chatting. He said it was one of the best nights ever - and Rory was an absolute gentleman.

Bass player kind of reminds me a lot of Steve Harris from maiden. At least on this song. The sound, not the look. Likely just the kind of bass line he’s playing.
@lawmantheonetrueking37395 ай бұрын
Reckon Steve may have been influenced by Gerry who was around a decade before Maiden took off. Gerry still going strong. He was a great team member for Rory. The GMan was awesome, up there with the very best and my numero uno.

no... i don't care how many chords are in a song that's not what makes a song good. Also I don't know why this would be 'obvious'.
