The DP World Tour continues this week with the first Roles Series event of the season as the Emirates Golf Club hosts the Hero Dubai Desert Classic. World Number Two McIlroy is in the field again. He is aiming to become the first four-time winner of the prestigious event, having begun his 2024 campaign with a runner-up finish at the inaugural Dubai Invitational. Tommy Fleetwood will also be teeing it up again this week. His victory at the Dubai Invitational last week was built upon a consistent campaign in 2023, which saw him register five top-tens, including a runner-up finish at the season-ending DP World Tour Championship. Tyrell Hatton will also be in Dubai this week for his season debut. He finished 2023 with three top-12’s in his last five events to round of the year. Others to look out for are Nicolai Hojgaard, Francesco Molinari and Ryan Fox.

To give you an idea how good that 63 was, most low handicappers might tie him given a stroke a hole! IMHO an 81 is a decent score on this course for any 7-9 HCP! The great last shot would take 3 strokes for most golfers! As the commentator said..."would be easy to leave it high on the fringe"...and probably 2 more strokes from there!

Apart from being an extraordinary golfing talent, Rory is a flag bearer for what golf is about. It is a test of test of what your skills are vs your internal fortitude. Rory wins this hands down. I am NOT a fan of Rory McIlroy because he has made SOOOO many off course, off course blunders I just gave up. BUT, if he can start saying NO to the empty requests of every nobody and commit himself to his wife and child and his game, ie his ACTUAL responsibilities he will win the MASTERS and then the flood gates will open. He could potentially do what he could have, should have done in the last ten years in maybe five. Including a Grand Slam, not a career GS but all 4 in one year, he is that good.
