At the 2021 Wells Fargo Championship, Rory McIlroy claimed his 19th victory on the PGA TOUR with rounds of 72-66-68-68 to finish at 10-under-par at Quail Hollow.

The Wells Fargo Championship returns to the PGA TOUR schedule after being cancelled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Max Homa returns to defend his title against a field full of TOUR stars. The tournament’s only two-time winner Rory McIlroy returns to action for the first time since the Masters. He set a course record in each win, shooting a final-round 62 in 2010 and a third-round 61 in 2015. The top two players in the FedExCup - Justin Thomas and Bryson DeChambeau - are also teeing it up and while they’ll both be looking to build on their recent form, Thomas will be hoping for a repeat of his 2017 outing at the Quail Hollow Club which saw him win the PGA Championship. Meanwhile, Phil Mickelson will make an appearance for the 17th time in 18 editions and owns 12 top-12 finishes at the event. No golfer has ever defended his title at the Wells Fargo Championship. Will the in-form Max Homa break that trend or will we see another name in the history books?

For those who didn’t watch it live, he hit it left on 18 and had to take a drop, meaning he had to get in in the hole in 3 from that lie. He really had everyone holding their breath. His caddie probably saved him from throwing the tournament.

Great golf from Rory. And to people who don't think putting is important, as a 60 year old who is lucky to drive 210 metres, I had 26 putts on my card for an 80 today. 6728 meter course. Drive for show, putt for dough.

You had 26 putts for an 80 on a 6700m course. Rory has 26 putts and he shoots 65. Take a look at strokes gained rankings for off the tee vs putting and tell me you don’t see a correlation for world ranking and money list (hint: the top 10 off the tee make an awful lot more $ than the top 10 putters). There’s a lot of dumb, inaccurate cliches in golf but man “drive for show, putt for dough” is always at the top.

@@LesPaulBJJ The only reason I do not shoot 65 is because I do not drive the ball as far as these guys do, and do not hit my irons as far. So a Par5 is still a Par 5 for me, it is not a birdie opportunity. Now 20 years ag when I was younger on the same course I hit 69 with 27 putts, because I could drive further. EG: I could hit my 8 Iron 160 Metres, not I an only hit 125. I used to drive 260 Metres, but now only 200. Called age is catching up to me. Hint, to be in the top ten you need an all round game. And even in Tigers prime he was not the longest driver on tour, but he was the best putter. Seems to me that you know nothing about the game, and probably do not even play. And I did say, well played Rory in my comment.

Keep trying. 😂 Also you genuinely just contradicted yourself by claiming having a better long game would take 15 strokes off your score. A good putting round vs bad is about 3-4 strokes difference for these guys. Want to do the math on that as well? My god how delusional to you have to be, OF COURSE you need to be able to putt at some level but take a look at the rankings. Tiger was not statistically the best putter on tour but he was the best tee to green. Another old man misconception.

I used to play of 3, but now due to being 60 and pretty bad back, so I am unable to do a full swing, I reply on my short game I am at 17. And I watch so many players 3 or 4 putt in the normal. Game. A Pro is a lot better than a scratch golfer. If you are off scratch, then that is the difference between you and me. A Pro golfer is basically 18 shots better than a scratch golfer. And Fact, 90% of Amateurs players can not break a 100. I have watched Golf for 45 years now, and Tiger made more clutch putts than anyone else on a regular basis. Woods holed nearly every three footer he faced in 2015. He holed 99.61% from 255 attempts. In other words, he missed one! From 2004 to 2008 Tiger’s Average Distance of Putts Made was 6 ft longer than the Tour average. So, as an Old Man as you call me, I have experience on my side. Due to my back injury, I am not as long or as accurate as I used to be, but I make a lot more 1 putts than my fellow players from 10 foot in.

@@barnesmagic I don’t think that’s true. Draw is more erratic. Gets people in more trouble more often. Less accurate. I don’t think new drivers are less difficult to draw, the shot shapes are produced by the swing path, not by the club. Bryson also hits fades.

Wow. Rory is a great golfer and makes a good deal of $$$. Well rewarded. Oh wait. When the PGA introduces their new Player Impact Program he'll be getting paid from a $40M pool for any "Added value to the game" such as participating in social media etc. The PGA said it will be a reward for "giving back to the fans". I thought the million dollar+ winnings and the support of the fans might have been enough, but no, now they're paid extra for what they do off the course. And one of the top recipients will purportedly be Tiger Woods, limping his way at home.
