In the third round of the 2023 RBC Canadian Open, Rory McIlroy shot 6-under 66 to sit two strokes off the lead as he looks to become the first golfer in tournament history to pull off a hat trick.

One week before the U.S Open, the PGA TOUR heads to Oakdale Golf & Country Club in Canada for the RBC Canadian Open. About to turn 100 years old, Oakdale will be hosting Canada’s national championship for the first time. Rory McIlroy headlines the field and will be looking to build on his T7 finish at the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday last week. As a two-time defending champion of the tournament, the Northern Irishman will be the man to beat. Tyrrell Hatton enters the tournament in strong form after finishing in the top 20 in five consecutive events since the RBC Heritage in April. Matt Fitzpatrick will also have a strong chance in Canada this week. Despite an opening-round 76, he finished T9 at Muirfield Village Golf Club, five shots off the lead. He’ll look to stay hot this week in preparation for his U.S Open title defense. Expectations are high for Corey Conners. Being Canada’s highest-ranked player and finishing T12 at the recent PGA Championship, there’s anticipation he could be the first Canadian to win the national championship since Pat Fletcher in 1954. Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood and Shane Lowry will also be looking to take top spot in Canada.

Rory has an addiction problem, he desperately wants to be like Tiger! Unfortunately, there is a huge difference between them, Tiger was the ultimate finisher and winner, whereas Rory is something of a choker when it comes to the business end of a tournament. At his best, Tiger crushed everyone in sight!

I know what you mean. Tiger had the extra 5% to get the job done in the final round, on a consistent basis. It was his mentality. Rory thinks it's his game, but really it is his mentality. Look back at Rory when he was younger; he played aggressive, care-free and just played for fun. The past decade, he's been playing with the handbrake on and he doesn't know how to take it off. If he just plays for fun, he'll win another major.

@FEBRIZIOtv Rory is the closest thing to tiger talent wise...the way they can swing the club and hit the ball....he doesn't have the killer instinct tiger had though...tiger really had everything...hit the ball better than anyone, putted better than anyone but he also was mentally tougher than anyone. Tiger was the closest thing to the perfect golfer we'll ever see

People keep pointing to his putting, and there’s certainly less freedom in that stroke compared to 10 years ago, but his wedge game 110 and in has been so poor over the last few years. They have this thing about certain golfers. They want to be right in their assumptions so they highlight guys like Mcilroy. They did it on Saturday with the tall Chinese guy until he fell apart. They want you to know how smart they are. There is this thing though about any British golfer. They not only make a big deal out of them the have to hire announcers that are British. They had no such aggressive fanfare when koepka won the Masters. Yet they treat Rory like he is the second coming.
