Cole Palmer saw players coming in and saying they had injuries like sprained ankles and when he saw the team sheet came in and said he was not feeling well and gets away with it. Bottom line is he was concerned about looking bad in a losing team so chickened out, not prepared to join the other remaining players in fighting for the team. He wanted to escape the criticism and have all the blame put on his team mates that played and were prepared to fight. That is Cole Palmer in a nutshell. Selfish and only thinking of himself and that is why Man City sold him, but it is also why Chelsea is so up and down because his behaviour influences the rest of the team negatively. If he won't fight for the team in difficult moments or whenever defensive work needs to be done and the Chelsea manager let's him get away with it, the other players too won't fight because he is being pointed at as the example. He is sneaky as hell and all for himself both the manager influenced by the media let him get away with it, real playground school stuff there is no way Man City were going to tolerate. Chelsea have to decide if they want a player that scores goals, but then gives goals away in his liability defensively and is a negative influence on the team supported by the media or a team that works together defensively that may score les, but at least does not let goals in because they are prepared to fight together. The damage is done and will need time to repair, but the manager has allowed it to foster and even nurtured it only because he new the media will go easy on him if he did as he was letting them influence his team selection and his treatment of his players to be in line with what they want. The result is there is a real danger Chelsea are going to end the season worse with Cole Palmer than they did last season without Cole Palmer and then there will be nowhere to hide the truth.
