So lucky I was actually there. Sitting on the stage. Leaning back

Robbie Baker is a very special guitarist. Why? 100% devotion to the craft of SERVING the song ... whilst also providing 'sacred space' for Gord to do his thing. How often to do you come across a guitar player that doesn't try to 'show up' the lead singer, but still rips every note with perfect execution?? The mutually celebrated friendship of The HIP is often overlooked. Most band members can't stand each other after the first 10 years. The HIP remained 'childhood friends' until the very end. 30+ years. Same 5 guys. A band as RARE as a pink elephant.

Rob Baker was such an underrated guitar player. He is literally a lead guitar player in the truest sense in that he basically plays guitar solos throughout the entire song in some songs. The guy is a legend!

I saw The HIP play live in Utrecht - Nov. 97. Incredible show. A very special night that I'll never forget. Gord improvised a poem on stage about 'kidnapping his hotel room's 'chambermaid' for ransom'.

@@onelove1968 the first time I saw them was when they opened Pinkpop in '91, Parkpop '92, Doornroosje Nijmegen 93, and a few late nineties early 00's shows in Utrecht and Amsterdam.

@@gerald9442 Lucky you. I love the videos on line from the Utrecht concert. I was at Ghent Fest around '00. You guys and the Belgians put on some fine music festivals.

Man I love Boots or Hearts. What a jam. That kids loves it too. I've seen The Hip four times from the Fully Completely album on. This is a gem of a performance considering the size of the crowd.

I gotta say it again…how often do 20 people get a personal concert from a band like this? At this point they are already in their prime. Super tight musicianship, vocals, charisma and confidence. I am still, after contemplating their career path for decades, perplexed as to what it is that didn’t connect with the mainstream. Whatever it was, I am happy they didn’t hit that mainstream vein. It subsequently cemented them into veins of all Canadians…almost to the level of a religious or a spiritual bond between us. So happy when non Canadians feel this connection too! It’s just an intangible beyond the literal music. 🤙✌️

Everything from the self titled Hip album reminds me of the shower at my parents house. I had it on tape, and i used to listen to it in the shower all the time.

Wow, that was the first time Ive ever heard The Hip do a cover. I don't know who originally wrote Baby Please Don't Go, but I never expected to hear The Hip cover it.

Such an awesome find. Who had the foresight to record this back in 1989 (and keep it long enough to digitize it!)?

Some of the earliest Hip I've seen. Still need a few covers to fill the set. It says a lot to say they are already an incredibly tight band of musicians. Sounding as good live as on Up to Here and their debut self titled album..
