Greetings from Ukraine. I am very glad that you can paint with these paints. They are very popular in my country. I also use them and am very satisfied. I love to draw botanicals and I have my favorites.

I am so happy you got this huge set of Rosa Gallery. I have a botanical set that I bought over a year ago and during xmas I got the Romantic set which I only have 2 duplicates which is very good. I found Rosa to be more like Yarka..almost identical to me the White Nights seem a little grainy and harder to wet at least my set. Now I also have the White Nights Pastel Set in Tubes and those are so easy to rewet and found them to be better quality than the White Nights pans. Rosa Gallery individual pans are the cheapest at Artemiranda in Spain but they do ship fast to the US, each Rosa individual pan is $2.13. They also have the sets and empty pans. P.S. Your Paintings are beautiful and I love that you do Art Journals!

Thank you for commenting. I really enjoy making art/junk journals. So I am glad that viewers like to see that. I have never tried the actually Yarka labeled paints, but I do know that Yarka and White Night are the same. They are made in the same factory and according to a distributor I talked to I found out that Yarka is the name they gave White Night for certain markets. I have also seen The Frugal Crafter say many times that the are the same paints branded for different markets. That’s so funny that your two might seem different in the formulation. Either way I really really enjoy the Rosa paints. They are currently making my top ten list for paint sets so far this year.

Since it wasn't mentioned, I figured I'd chime in. Rosa and white nights used to be the same company up to a certain point in time, but they couldn't decide on what direction they wanted and separated. That's why there is some overlap, and some differences :) there is a wiki about this somewhere if you Google around, if you need a better source.
@thethriftyapprentice Жыл бұрын
Thanks for that info. I will see if I can find a scholarly source to refer to and find that info. I tend to not use wiki for much. It’s open source, user edited, and a lot of the time the info isn’t checked properly. That’s not to say you are wrong. I would rather take your word for it than wiki. I guess it’s from my school days. We were always taught not to trust wiki all that much. With all that said thank you so much for letting me know that. You telling me was the first time I have ever heard that.

@@thethriftyapprentice i think it is possible I'm wrong, I read it two years ago and double checked just now. Many old soviet factories made paints and had their own personal touch despite the finished product having the same box, but once that broke down they probably started up their own companies in place with workers from the old places. It's a bit messy to read about -91, and it precedes the event of Rosas beginning in -96. They probably just wanted great paint of their own making, in a similar model :)

@@loondabo9207 got ya. It actually makes sense though considering how similar they are. Also the Paul Ruben 24 solid student watercolor set is almost the same as well. Which is strange because Paul Ruben normally produces their own paints. Again thank you for hopping me to that. I have a great starting point for more research thanks to your info.

I always seem to cannot control watercolor flow help me understand why?
@thethriftyapprentice Жыл бұрын
Hi there. There could be many reason that controlling your water could be a problem, but I have found in most cases it starts with the brush you may be using. Keep in mind that a natural hair brush, or even a synthetic brush meant to mimic natural hair will hold lots of water at a time. On the other hand a Taklon brush (most have gold or white hairs) will hold much less water at a time, and lend to better water control. I always suggest that anyone learning to control water flow start with a good set of golden taklon brushes. I hope this helps a little.
@justacatwhocantype Жыл бұрын
To learn to control waterflow it really helps if you take a piece of paper and draw some shapes on it. Maybe some animal outlines like bunnies or fish, or maybe hearts. Anything. And then you start filling them in in a gradient, going from a really deep, concentrated amount of color to it fading out completely at the other side of the shape. Sounds super simple, but this can really help.

Rosa is made in the Ukraine. White Nights etc. Is made in Russia. I bought a few to see what they were like and support a Ukrainian business. I bought more because I thought they performed way beyond their price point and I really liked them. Next to my pallet of various makers of handmade paints, I reach for these. Great quality.

Yes I know they are made in different countries and they both are great paints. I purchased Rosa simple because I wanted to support a Ukrainian company. I still say they share very similar qualities when it comes to performance. Even many of the characteristics of the paints are the same. I’m not saying they are the same. However, in my opinion they could share some formula characteristics. This is a amazing set. Not as cost effective as others in its ballpark, but wonderful paints nonetheless.
