Another great reaction, Rosalie. 💚 Definitely do Fingers (live). It's an absolutely stunning performance, she puts her whole body and soul into the song. The control she has over her voice is frankly ridiculous, possibly the best I've ever heard. She can go from a delicate whisper to a fire-breathing dragon in a single breath, and the piano accompaniment is sublime. I must have watched it 100 times at this stage between the original and reactions. And I still get chills every single time, especially at one particular part. You'll know it when you hear it. 🤣

I always wonder when I get to the end if it deliberately ends without the word "badly." The meter suggests that there needs to be 2 more syllables. Which seems fitting - he never got to say everything he needed to. This song hits hard. I can't imagine what it's like to lose a friend to suicide. In fact if anyone reading this ever feels alone, reach out immediately. You aren't. You matter.

Of course I already subscribed to both, a month ago I searched on KZbin and couldn´t find anything from Chinchilla solo. That really has changed. If you havn´t done it yet, please go for Fingers, Gone little girl, Elements, Demand respect… she is fire. I could wish for both for them that they would forget how to be them- just for a moment, and listen to their own music with totally new ears. Like ours. If they both only knew what they make us feel… hope I expressed my self so that you understand what I meant.. thanks Rosalie, its a pleasure to hear your reaction. Hugs from Denmark. Lene61/🇩🇰

Had a friend that ended her life because she was dying from the medical treatment for cystic fibrosis. So the ending to this just killed me and I had to listen to the whole thing again. I love the imagery in the lyrics, almost Telltale Heart. I also love that he sings with Chinchilla, because it takes away from the loneliness of the song, that more than one person CAN sing this song all at once because the pain is not just one person's, even though the experience of that pain is. Dunno if that made any sense.

I think the name of the song refers to the fact that some traumatic events can change who you are and your understanding of life and your part in it . The suicide of Rens friend was such an event . I believe that for most of the song he is speaking for his friend and he is in a unique position to do so after battling his own depression and psychosis . I dont think the almost mumbled words at the the end, that carry so much emotion could be made into a whole song, that directly spoke to Rens feelings of loss ,because the emotion would overpower him . His pain at his loss is still so great. Because CNN is trying to paint Ren as a kind of evil pied piper of suicidal teens . I believe reactors need to be very responsible in the way they discuss this song and suggest how people can get help and point out the life changing pain your friends and family can suffer after this kind of loss . I know it is hard to think of everything in a blind reaction but we need to protect Ren his work is a guift to the world . Another song of his ,about this same friend is " Freckled Angel " Thank you for this beautiful ,sensitive reaction .❤❤❤❤❤

This will always be my faviorite song of theirs. The emotion they pack into this performance is so vivid and powerful, it just radiates out of the screen. You can feel it in every facial expression and movement. This is what every song writer should be trying to accomplish with music - words and melodies are just the vehicle. When done correctly, they serve to transfer the energy of these human experiences to others. That's trancendance.

@@denalindethis! Yeah, I desperately wanted to binge when I discovered him, but approached each of his back-catalogue videos with reverence and self care, and allowance for recovery time afterwards. I thought of it as savouring, but it was also protective. That rationing of maximum 2 per week allowed me both insight, recovery, healing old wounds, hope, respect and a new-found joy in life. I felt seen, and the fact that two of the people most important to me that I first played Ren for have had the same awe and felt their world shaken. It removed all doubts that they got it, had an idea of the impacts long term chronic disease and disabilty and misdiagnosis can have. This year the thing I'm most proud of is sharing Ren that first day of 2023. And that I've taken his music and rolled with it, towards navigating better medical treatment and not giving up at "there's nothing we can do" or "your genetic disorder is too rare, so no, we're not going to attempt something different, try this treatment option that has never helped you in the past and caused a lot of damage" Yeah I need to advocate for myself better, but 20 years of misdiagnosis and anger has left me tired.

I've been so anticipating your reaction to this track, so glad you did the live version too. I don't want this to sound like a slight on non musicians, or like some snobby "creator of art", I'm not, I just happen to have been in a cover band all through my youth, then was a studio sound engineer for many years as a side gig, I'm no artist, trust me. With that said, I think for the casual listener, it's hard to quantify the level of song writing and performing these two beautiful souls achieved here, on that balcony on a cool breezy night in Brighton. It's a masterclass in how a song should convey emotion, if aliens ever showed up and asked us to explain why music is so much a part of our culture, this video should be given to them. Ok enough gushing, great reaction and synopsis as usual Rosalie!!! Big hugs!! ✌️💚

I wanted to comment on this separately because I feel it's so important to make people aware of. No doubt being an independent artist is the way to go, and a way to keep artistic integrity alive, unfortunately it does not free an artist completely of the greed machine that is "the industry". Not just the music biz, all of them. Every year, more and more companies merge or buy out smaller ones. The level this is happening on needs a new word for it, because a monopoly doesn't quite encompass it enough. These mega mergers are leading to one conglomerate controlling so much of one industry, it's literally impossible for a vendor, or artist in this case, to get a product, their music, to a customer without them, think TicketMaster's more evil older brother. So here is a really good interview with a guy Cory Doctorow, who's been studying what he calls "chokepoint capitalism" for over a decade. I don't know the guy, not promoting him nor do I benefit in anyway by sharing this link, I'm sharing it for two reasons.......1. It's the best breakdown and explanations of the issue that I've seen so far. 2. Because he is being interviewed by Adam Conover on a YT platform, the interview leans heavily into how this issue affects and controls YT content creators and musical artists. Please don't let the title turn you off, it's not political really at all, it is over an hour, I am in no way requestion you to react to it, just wanted you to check it out and spread the word.
